Steely and direct "I am clear what it looks like......" , bet Jay wishes he hadn't asked that question.

He hit it over the fence for six.

Yes, but on the other hand, all of us are delighted that Jay asked the question, because Goody's reply gave us some great insights into our coach, that we may not otherwise have been privy to.

Jay's question was clearly an attempt to put Goody on the spot. Most coaches would have taken umbrage, and quickly dismissed the question with a glib response, or in some cases, tried to 'put the journo down' with a smart assed reply (Buckley, Brad Scott?).  But Goody wasn't 'rattled' for a second.  His response was calm, factual, measured and very classy.

I found myself hanging on every word he said, and it's not unreasonable to assume that our players would respond in the same way whenever he speaks on important issues.  I reckon we have already seen evidence this on the field, and in the strong sense of 'belief' that is emerging within our playing group.

IMO we now have many of the key ingredients in place for a serious tilt at a flag over the next few years.  Of all the current senoir AFL coaches, Goody would be my first choice to take us there!

Is there something going on with Goody and Jay?

Really, really vague recollection, but there was a comment at a post-match presser early on, and I'm pretty sure it was Clark who had asked a question re. an injury or potential MRP issue - of which Goody obviously didn't know the full details yet.

There was a loaded response from Goody, along the lines of, 'look, we're going to find out more later, and I can you a call during the week'. And a memory of Goody empahsizing Jay's name in the same slightly odd manner he did on the weekend.

The only reason I can remember it, was my thoughts at the time were something like, 'why would you bother calling him?' - and that it felt there was a definite subtext which I couldn't quite work out. Please note, my memory is generally pretty destroyed.

There would have been a few football reporters digging around Simon during the Essendon saga - wonder if he's got some slight grudges - or favours owed?

Caro,"Jay",Purple,Pierek,Connolly,Ralph and others all sunk the boots in when Pre Roos.

There were others as well but I like it that he gives the vultures the bare minimum.

Having a good culture means never having to say, "we didn't come to play today".

I like Tracc's comment that any player coming in should be able to perform the task required so we should still be capable of winning any game. That's what good teams are all about and that's why the Bullies won last year and the Hawks won so many.

    TRAINING: Wednesday 19th February 2025

Demonlander The Analyser was the sole Trackwatcher out at Casey Fields today to bring you the following observations from this mornings preseason training session. Training  was at Casey today. It consisted of a match simulation for one half  and then a free choice activity time. Activities included kicking for goal,  aerial , contest work etc. I noticed the following players not in match simulation Jack Viney  running laps and looks fine for round one . I think Kolt looks like he’s im

    TRAINING: Wednesday 12th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. Firstly the bad news - McVee went down late, which does look like a bad hammy - towards the end of match sim, as he kicked the ball. Had to

MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
