I'm predicting that Josh Mahoney will be seeking to talk to Sam May and his management after the game.

He might, but I am certain he won't talk to Steven May.

Thank you, thank you! I'm here every Friday. Please... try the fish!

This sounds like a stupid question but what time does the game start ? I swear I saw it was 5:05pm on the afl live app but the footy apps say 4:35pm & the afl site says 4:05.. I'm guessing it's 4:35pm our time & 4:05pm local time ?

I must admit I am pretty bullish about anb, I think he's improved quite a lot in almost all areas of his game this year.

His defensive game is strong and he's a smart player, as you said he does panic at times but I think you could say the same thing about most young players.

Im not sure how good he will end up being but I'm not unhappy that he's in the team

Listening to Maxy on the Land podcast, so is he. Was asked to name the best young talent at the club with usual names of Oliver, Petracca, Hogan and Hunt thrown at him. He singled out ANB as being underrated. I found it to be an interesting comment.

As you say, it's hard to tell how good he will end up being but at this point I'm glad we have him.

DJ this is a crucial game for us and very important that we win and win well, for a start we are not likely to get punched, tripped, etc and the umpires will hopefully have to come back on the Plane with us!!!! We have to hang in there until we get a few players back. Go Dee's!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I live in Torquay but am in Turkey on my annual swim trip. There's a 7 hour time difference.

BTW this is where we swam yesterday (pretty nice). I feature at the 20 sec mark.

Condolences

Again, you are too rosey eyed.

Being "in" every game is no longer enough. Norf shouldn't get a look in against us if we are a finals side, but we simply cannot get over the line against them.

While It's definitely nice to roll a couple of top sides, no team will make finals if they continually roll over against bottom 6 teams. A 2 goal loss against a bottom side is about 8 goals short of where we should be at this stage. Close is far from good enough.

We're deviating away from the point here, faulty.  If we go a few pages back I was simply making the point that if we made finals (and I'm not saying we will) then we have the ability to cause some havoc.  Nothing more, nothing less.  You and your mates can go on and on and on about everything else, but I've made my point on that.  If we finished 8th then no side in that bottom 4 of the 8 would want to finish 5th as we can match it with anyone.

I do not think we have earnt that kind of fear from other clubs...yet.

Maybe I'm going a touch far with the fear factor, but we aren't pushovers and we can match it with anyone.  We wouldn't be an easy proposition for any team if we make the finals.

Hard to get excited about this game.

A win would be nice but unless they follow it up with a few more wins the game means little.

A win would be more than nice.  Its another step closer to the finals.

And if we annihilate them it increases our already healthy %.  This season is so unbelievably close that percentage will be more important than usual and I can see a couple of teams making/missing the finals cos of it.

In the top 8 atm, Crows would be the only one that wouldn't take us lightly.

Then they can dig their own grave.  No one in the competition, especially this year, would take any side lightly.

Melbourne Vs Anyone we SHOULD beat says hi.

No, we have taken teams lightly this year, it happens.

Well then good luck to teams who take us lightly as we know what happens.  Ridiculous to think that a side playing finals against us (pure hypothetical) would take us lightly.  It's a ludicrous comment to be honest.

You should swim in the Olympics if you can get from Torquay to Turkey in 7 hrs. By my calculations, you'd do the 1500m in about 15 seconds?

Yeah 4:35pm AEST time.

It is not ludicrous to think that a team that has beaten you in the season proper doesn't subconsciously think they can easily do it again.

Tbh though i distinctly feel some clubs buy into the hoodoo they seem to have on us.  I do think it's more what we bring to the game that matters more.

I also think that it is this that other clubs feast upon....our inconsistencies and tardy arrivals.

Ironically some oppositions may indeed see US as the danger game...which Melbourne is turning up, and when. Most of our decent wins are quite honestly aberrations to the run of the cloth.

I fear it'll only be when we do what we're supposed to do, when we're supposed to and on a regular basis that the name Melbourne will start a sweat in others.

Long way still to go.

To say we need the four points  is an understatement

any chance if we win by 100 points we get 8 ladder points instead of 4 ?

I agree with this.

Goodwin continually talks about building a brand "from the comtest out". While every team aspires to some extent be hard around the ball, Goodwin (and Roos) have backed it up with the cattle brought into the midfield and the style they play. There are clearly still flaws but one thing that can't be questioned is that we are now a hardened midfield that will match or better any other team in the league as far as winning the hard ball.

This, coupled with the umps putting the whistle away, bodes well for how we should fare once we make it to September.

Almost forgot we smashed them by 73 points last season on their home turf

That 2 point thumping at the G also

Cemented ourselves as a power club of the future too

Lets not get carried away.

Track record in the dirt isn't marvelous.

Indigenous Round... we are playing in the Alice etc.......... you would think that we would be a story but in reality ......... no one cares.......no FTA, no press

As I understand it the fee for these away home games is around $500K per game (not sure who pays for travel etc)..... $20 per member and no more of these ridiculous journeys

  • DRAFT: The Next Generation

It was not long after the announcement that Melbourne's former number 1 draft pick Tom Scully was departing the club following 31 games and two relatively unremarkable seasons to join expansion team, the Greater Western Giants, on a six-year contract worth about $6 million, that a parody song based on Adele's hit "Someone Like You" surfaced on social media. The artist expressed lament over Scully's departure in song, culminating in the promise, "Never mind, we'll find someone like you," although I suspect that the undertone of bitterness in this version exceeded that of the original.

  • AFLW REPORT: Brisbane

A steamy Springfield evening set the stage for a blockbuster top-four clash between two AFLW heavyweights. Brisbane, the bookies’ favourites, hosted Melbourne at a heaving Brighton Homes Arena, with 5,022 fans packing in—the biggest crowd for a Melbourne game this season. It was the 11th meeting between these fierce rivals, with the Dees holding a narrow 6–4 edge. But while the Lions brought the chaos and roared loudest, the Demons aren’t done yet.
