Just wanted to bump this up the thread. Assuming we are still interested, he played well again yesterday on top of a really good season. He along with Lever are the two we are apparently into in the offseason. Jones can just be a handing over of a first round pick (depending on how high it is, we might get something back), Lever looks like he will cost a mint. Next year's first rounder and ??? If we can deliver both of these boys into our side next year it solves our outside run and key defender issues.

Lish, do you have any intel or links on this? Just wondering where people are getting this info from (apart from us wishful thinkers).

@Moonshadow nothing personally since May at a demons lunch but McLure et al have had us linked all year along with Saints and Dons. I recon it is fair to say any out of contract player who has the ability to be an A grader we are interests in (like everyone else). I'm sure other clubs are waiting to see what happens with Salem.

OK cheers.

Personally, I'd be very pleased if we heard no whispers about potential trades until they are about to happen. Roos kept our cards close, I hope Goodwin can do the same. I reckon the players would like it that way. These clubs that are linked to all and sundry would be frustrating to supporters

Salem signed up a couple of weeks ago

As we become more and more 'relevant' we will get linked in the media to quality players that are OOC who might fill specific needs. Few cared about us during the Neeld years, now we are comptative on and off the field

  • 2 weeks later...

Just reported RUMOR on SEN linking Zak Jones to Melbourne in a convoluted deal involving dusty martin to the swans and I think they said tippet to the dogs and Zak Jones to Melbourne.

so the question is... Do we want him? does he fill a need.

it would be nice though to see him playing with his bro...

does anyone know if he has pace, as I am in the camp that believes we need a pacy outside mid as our main priority.

what is his disposal like?

I've always been confident of us getting him. Swans cap situation means they won't be able to offer him as much as the vic clubs.

Kid can play. Tough as nails. Super quick. Powerful. Can play off half back and through the middle. Would be a great asset. Not to mention he's the brother of Chunk

Sounds like a good deal to me (as long as we don't sacfrice a good player instead of draft picks)! By all reports, he has the pace and the hardness that would augment our midfield plus he is the right age!

His disposal is at times fantastic and at times iffy. Think Jordan Lewis in that regard

But faster and younger!

Saw him interviewed on one of the footy shows. They asked if he wanted to play with his brother. He doesn't have much of a poker face. I have no doubt he is coming.

Saw this too, it was on last Sunday Footy Show.

His reply was a dead giveaway he will likely be a Demon next season.

I just shrugged my shoulders as I am not sure how he fits in when we are loaded with half backs and not sure he can play in the midfield.  Though we may have plans to move Hunt to a wing.

Hopefully petrattack has a time and date stamp for you.

Dusty to Syd will have 9thmond needing to damage multiple Doulton's all at once!!

Wow. If Dusty leaves them for Sydney (or anyone else) the meltdown from Tiger supporters will trigger a magnitude 10 earthquake.

A 3 way deal was mentioned this morning on SEN. The 3rd player was a mystery

I think also as players are coming to the end of their playing days, we will need replacements.

  • WHAT’S NEXT? by The Oracle

What’s next for a beleagured Melbourne Football Club down in form and confidence, facing  intense criticism and disapproval over some underwhelming recent performances and in the midst of a four game losing streak? Why, it’s Adelaide which boasts the best percentage in the AFL and has won six of its last seven games. The Crows are hot and not only that, the game is at the Adelaide Oval; yet another away fixture and the third in a row at a venue outside of Victoria. One of the problems the Demons have these days is that they rarely have the luxury of true home ground advantage, something they have enjoyed just once since mid April.

  • REPORT: Gold Coast

From the start, Melbourne’s performance against the Gold Coast Suns at Peoples First Stadium was nothing short of a massive botch up and it came down in the first instance to poor preparation. Rather than adequately preparing the team for battle against an opponent potentially on the skids after suffering three consecutive losses, the Demons looking anything but sharp and ready to play in the opening minutes of the game. By way of contrast, the Suns demonstrated a clear sense of purpose and will to win. From the very first bounce of the ball they were back to where they left off earlier in the season in Round Three when the teams met at the MCG. They ran rings around the Demons and finished the game off with a dominant six goal final term. This time, they produced another dominant quarter to start the game, restricting Melbourne to a solitary point to lead by six goals at the first break, by which time, the game was all but over.

  • CASEY: Gold Coast

Coming off four consecutive victories and with a team filled with 17 AFL listed players, the Casey Demons took to their early morning encounter with the lowly Gold Coast Suns at People First Stadium with the swagger of a team that thought a win was inevitable. They were smashing it for the first twenty minutes of the game after Tom Fullarton booted the first two goals but they then descended into an abyss of frustrating poor form and lackadaisical effort that saw the swagger and the early arrogance disappear by quarter time when their lead was overtaken by a more intense and committed opponent. The Suns continued to apply the pressure in the second quarter and got out to a three goal lead in mid term before the Demons fought back. A late goal to the home side before the half time bell saw them ten points up at the break and another surge in the third quarter saw them comfortably up with a 23 point lead at the final break.

  • POSTGAME: Rd 16 vs Gold Coast

The Demons did not come to play from the opening bounce and let the Gold Coast kick the first 5 goals of the match. They then outscored the Suns for the next 3 quarters but it was too little too late and their season is now effectively over.
