TAC Cup 2017 squads revealed

The lists for the 2017 TAC Cup have been finalised and can be seen here

Over at the Sandringham Dragons there are some interesting names with MFC connections. Worth keeping an eye out for these players -

Hamish and Andrew Brayshaw - over-age and top-age (respectively) brothers of Angus (31 AFL games for Melbourne) and sons of Mark (32 AFL games for North Melbourne from 1990-92).

Sebastian Williams - 179cm 75 kg is a grandson of Don Williams (205 AFL games for Melbourne from 1953-59 and 1964-68 and member of Melbourne’s Team of the Century).

“Seb’s an on-baller who can play half back/half forward and is a very dynamic athlete. He’s a nice little player.”

.....I coached Lachie Harris for a couple of years.  Brilliant footballer, who is the youngest of the Harris boys, and a nicer kid you couldn't find.  Had to work really hard in the backyard to play against the bigger brothers, so he knows how to get the ball.  Has grown a bit but still small by AFL standards.

Son of Brian Stynes? Jim's son is only about 12.

Wonder if the AFL can 'manufacture' a way for SOB to slip through to us (if he's good enough) even though his dad only played a couple of games.

Definitely sons of Brian Stynes and Dermie respectively.

Might be a tough gig to get young Stynes through as a father/son due to the fact that his father only played 2 games. Would he come under the international player rule?

We are in the opening round of the TAC Cup and Eastern Rangers forward Jaidyn Stephenson was yesterday's hero with five goals in his team's nine goal demolition of the Calder Cannons.

Today, the Sandringham Dragons won 17.10.112 to Oakleigh Chargers 8.8.56 with the highlight being four goals to 201cm debutant Max King. Based on the name and the height there's a fair chance he might end up at Melbourne where his namesake was on the rookie list for a few years recently.

Went along to see a couple of games on the weekend at Ikon/Optus/Visy/Judd Park.

Eastern Ranges has some great talent this year in Stephenson & Hayes as well as Sandy Dragons look the goods, the other Brayshaw brothers Andrew & Hamish played for Sandy with Hamish playing as an overage player this season.  Its a good time to watch TAC Cup as after Easter school footy starts and dilutes the competition of talent.

Very interesting game this weekend with the 20 years AFL academy anniversary game a curtain raiser for the Essendon V Carlton.  Best 30 draft year players in the country going at on the G in April which will be a first.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
