WELCOME TO THE MELBOURNE FOOTBALL CLUB - DECLAN KEILTY

Featured Replies

I liked that he kicked that centre clearance low and hard into our fwd 50 instead of another big up and under high ball. that's something we don't do enough of imo.

Struggled to find his way however a couple of nice things as previously mentioned and I would certainly play him again this week now that one is under his belt.

Got to love this....nice work.

It looks like McEnvoy? came from the side a bit mindful that Kielty was running straight at him. Great work for a first gamer.

Snap.

Just saw the giph and thought exactly the same thing.

The forwards didn't mark it but were able to bring it ground, which is a harder task when bombed high and/or to the defender's advantage

Kielty's debut is an interesting experience in social media.  Drunkn is a fantastic contributor to Demonland and gives us a unique insight into how a player's family ride all the bumps with their son, brother, partner.  I have big hopes for Kielty and hope he has a fantastic career with us, but the site in general has been much more accommodating of him as a player than we have with most others.

We would do well to remember that every player in our team has a family and afford them the same respect that we have for the number 45.

He's played one game which we won. Wait a few weeks...

He would want to do more to keep his spot in the team, especially when Weid finds form. But what a dream come true to play your first game off the rookie list in a win at the G.

I'm more referring to people over the last few weeks calling for 'spuds' to be delisted whilst in their first year on a list.

Calling for a player to be dropped is fine, it's the manner with which many deride young players trying their best that seems to have been missing in this particular case.

TPF 39. Couldn’t agree more.

I have had my say numerous times regarding disrespect being shown to players who despite trying their darndest, and having been successful in being selected for AFL lists turn out not to be stars (or even making the grade at all) being referred to as spuds or worse.

They obviously don’t understand that there is in all populations a normal distribution in which a large percentage are in the middle and small numbers at each end. There always has to be someone at the left end of the bell curve. That doesn’t make them spuds or duds.  They have at least achieved what most of us could only dream of.

Perhaps it is they who are at the left end of the bell curve when it comes to normal human empathy.

  • REPORT: St. Kilda

One of the big stories of the AFL off-season was the spending spree of Melbourne’s Round 1 opponent, St Kilda. They splashed out heavily, first to retain Nasiah Wanganeen-Milera - the hero of last year’s epic come-from-behind miracle victory -turning him into a $2 million man. They then effectively took out an expensive overdraft to recruit a string of expensive players from other clubs. It was a risky investment strategy and, although it’s still early days, it certainly failed to pay off in Sunday’s season opener, with much of the glitter turning to fool’s gold.
