our history overcoming foot injuries is not great reading. First Clark, then Trengove. It's something that our clubs seems to be unable to get right.

Have a look at Oskar Baker's highlights on the AFL website. Kicking needs work but he looks like a lot of fun. Speed to burn.

Andrew will be gone before their first pick me guesses.

Even in this draft, Hamish still feels like one for the rookie draft.

Probably doesn't have the tricks to compensate for his lack of pace at the highest level.  Has a big body, is competitive and can win his own ball (was an over ager this year), is handy overhead, but haven't seen the standout trait that puts him ahead of others I think would be available at 47.

Agree. Most interesting is where the real little blokes go. Mosquito fleet might be in vogue. Jack Higgins, Spargo, Fogarty, Miers, Daniels and Moore. Think Melbourne will go needs first and the pick the best available of these guys.

Not a win here.

Ballard ... skinny Grgic type. Disposal is below average.

Moore ... is ok at 31 but not if Garner or Wooller is available.

Taylor ... tall defender. We have plenty. 

Walker ... opportunist forward with some mid potential

Interesting that a number of potential draftees who have been advocated on here with a reasonable degree of passion have fallen immediately after each one of our Knightmare second-round 'picks' -  Petruccelle at #30, Fritsch at #32, and Starcevich at #37.

I'm of the belief that Knightmare hasn't concerned himself too much with club-needs on this occasion (with us hypothetically taking two more young KPFs) and that maybe the collective wisdom on here might be closer to the pin (although that doesn't account for Knightmare maybe also not accounting for other clubs' needs so much and then the availability of certain players at each selection).

In the least, I can't see us passing up Fritsch if he truly is rated just one spot behind our pick. But above all, I think Goody will be doubling-down on last year, and the directive will be a) competitiveness, and b) some additional leg-speed and the capacity for quick decision-making/ball movement. Foot-skills be damned.

My new favourite from the highlights videos is Matthew McGannon. 183cm skinny but rangy kid who seems suited to flanks, inside or the wings. Just makes really quick and good decisions in moving the ball on and mixes his kicks between weighted and flat. Not afraid to use his left foot or hand either. Doesn't look fast but seems to glide out of trouble when needed.

Any draft watchers seen him play?

Seen him play a few times. He's a Fish Creek native. Now the Alberton Football League isn't exactly the cream of the crop, but they hit hard and are true country footy players'. He's a tough kid and isn't afraid to put his body over the ball, played in the seniors as a 16 year old. Not fast no, but he seems to have lots of time when he's got the ball.

I'd be happy to draft him if he is still there at pick 47, we'd get quite a few new members signing up too, as the McGannon family is a big one and the whole town of Fishy would get behind him.

Paging Simon Goodwin. As stated before, despite the understandable universal desire here for polish and speed,  I believe this will be our primary precondition along with competitiveness when selecting potential draftees.

Off topic a bit but I’ve never been to Fish Creek. It seems to me to be the quintessential name for a charming but sleepy Aussie country town. 

Does it live up to that image?

Sleepy - yes most of the time.

No doubt young Matthew comes from good stock because the name McGannon seems to be synonymous with footy down there - Cliff McGannon

Likely to be Matthew McGannon's grandfather. Based on that item about him, Cliff made his senior debut at 13 years of age - a fair effort. Amazing how times have changed if he grew homesick whilst trying out at Geelong. Now his grandson could end up at Fremantle or even worse, out in the backblocks of Western Sydney with Tom Scully and the "no" voters.

It's an artsy little town with a few galleries, most of the full-time residents are farmers of some sort. Sleepy during the week, but gameday at John Terrill Park always attracts a crowd.

Like most small country towns, the football and netball form a significant, if not the most significant part of the fabric of the town (this is especially true with footy at Fish Creek).

Everyone knows everyone and it's one-in all-in. If you are a member of the FCFNC you are literally a part-owner of the club. No matter where Fish Creek plays, it always has a strong following from the supporters (even as far as Philip Island to the west and DWWWW to the east).

Nice dream but most of the experts have McGannon going as a rookie at best.

Snoop Dog from bigfooty has issued his 2017 Phantom Draft including Rookie Draft.

It’s a little bit different to many of the others and has some interesting selections (eg Bayley Fritsch) going later than most would expect.

Great little result if Snoop's phantom comes to fruition. Some great options there for us.

Do we have a Rookie pic? I thought that it was only four pics in the main draft.?
