Love this.

This thread may very well become the Max Gawn equivalent of the 'Jack Viney made me cry thread'

Yes, indirectly.  Gave up pick 3 (Scully compo) and 14, and received MD pick #2 (Hogan), ND pick #20 (on-traded as part of Dawes deal) and Dom Barry.

Thanks Nash. I'm going to run with that and say we did. Is there anything Maxy can't do?

The other week someone called it 'Max Gawn's Magic Chunder'.

Perfect forum name if ever there was one.

'Bounce it properly then'

Max to the peanut umpire who had a sook when he'd done a pathetic sideways bounce that he was trying to recall when Max smashed it away.

Ump had given him a dirty look and whined, 'what'd you do that for?'.

Actually the commentator said that he should have said that, Max actually said "I was hitting it back to you".

Regardless of what he said verbally, his awesome fist away and body language certainly said " bounce it properly then ".

Was a great bit of theatre in the midst of an enjoyable win against the filth.  Added some nice icing to the cake along with Max's other non verbal statements that day.

There was a great interview with Nev Jetta where he asked if having a gun ruxkman made his job as back pocket easier. Then asked Nev to answer some Twitter questions and started with one from gawndog11 "what's it like having the greatest ruxkman in the league in your team"

Classic

One about Max, not by him:

"He's all of seven foot tall and about ten kilos of beard"

Some special comments from Alastair Lynch during game comentary.

Long live the beard.  Perhaps a few more of our players should do some beard work in the gym and put some weight on there like Maxy.

2016 Brownlow count, Round 19. Gawn is 11 votes behind the leader and gets the 3 votes against Gold Coast.

(With some lip-reading) he can be seen confidently telling his teammates, "This is it, I'm coming!"

What a legend.

At 3:55 on Tommy Mac Donald

"Yeah, he got drafted as a forward - I didn't see the potential myself...if he does it two weeks in a row I'll give him credit.  Yeah if he kicks five again, I'll be the first to shake his hand"

Lol cracks me up does big Maxy.

On Lynden Dunn and Paul Roos

Lynden produced a beautiful torpedo down the middle of the ground from the kick out- Roosy was fairly disappointed that he neglected to tell any of us he was going to do that.

Nicholls was the ump and I am not sure he has given us a free since!

What I find hilarious is that he clearly has a lot of one-liners ready for these media conferences but because all of the journos are focused on their job (I guess that is what they are paid for) a lot of the times they are gawn unnoticed and Gawn just stands there waiting for someone to laugh. The comment above saying he was best on, nothing at all from the journos. His pre-surgery press conference was hilarious as well.

Around 2012 on a trip to China. The story goes Gawn walked into Scully's room after a dozen or so pints (I don't know how many he'd actually had) and spewed all over a sleeping Scully.

Around 2010 I think.

Here with you on this one Maxy and happy with the outcome against Port on Saturday:

"We focused a little bit on our start this week especially because our starts have been - excuse my language - sh--house," Gawn told Fairfax Media.

I'm hoping the next version of the Demonland software will have artificial intelligence so if we preface a curse word with "excuse my language", the auto-censor doesn't kick into play.

Well, if it's good for Max.

But seriously, the Demonland auto-censor is seriously lacking in intelegence on occasions.  Admittedly, there are times when my intended curse words have been picked up as such, but there are also some pretty benign ones that seemed to get picked up, even in completely benign context.  Eg:

Was a good coin toss for Josey to win today;

Or

We gave Gold Coast an absolute flogging last year.

Excuse my language, but that umpire Nicholls is a [censored] [censored] camel [censored] [censored] stain

Been way too long since this thread was updated and I'm sure there are a few that have been missed in between, yesterday's effort deserves to be recorded.  The quote it's self wasn't so hilarious, but the context of the contemptuous way it was delivered to the offending umpire makes it worthy:

"That’s ruck craft, big boy"

Round 12 kicks off with the Brisbane hosting Essendon at the Gabba as the Lions aim to solidify their top-two position against an injury-hit Bombers side seeking to maintain momentum after a win over Richmond. On Friday night it's a blockbuster at the G as the Magpies look to extend their top of the table winning streak while the Hawks strive to bounce back from a couple of recent defeats and stay in contention for the Top 4. On Saturday the Suns, buoyed by 3 wins on the trot, face the Dockers in a clash crucial for both teams' aspirations this season. The Suns want to solidify their Top 4 standing whilst the Dockers will be desperate to break into the 8.

  • PREVIEW: St. Kilda

The media has performed a complete reversal in its coverage of the Melbourne Football Club over the past month and a half. Having endured intense criticism from all quarters in the press, which continually identified new avenues for scrutiny of every aspect, both on and off the field, and prematurely speculated about the departures of coaches, players, officials, and various employees from a club that lost its first five matches and appeared out of finals contention, the narrative has suddenly shifted to one of unbridled optimism.  The Demons have won five of their last six matches, positioning themselves just one game (and a considerable amount of percentage) outside the top eight at the halfway mark of the season. They still trail the primary contenders and remain far from assured of a finals berth.

  • REPORT: Sydney

A few weeks ago, I visited a fellow Melbourne Football Club supporter in hospital, and our conversation inevitably shifted from his health diagnosis to the well-being of our football team. Like him, Melbourne had faced challenges in recent months, but an intervention - in his case, surgery, and in the team's case, a change in game style - had brought about much improvement.  The team's professionals had altered its game style from a pedestrian and slow-moving approach, which yielded an average of merely 60 points for five winless games, to a faster and more direct style. This shift led to three consecutive wins and a strong competitive effort in the fourth game, albeit with a tired finish against Hawthorn, a strong premiership contender.  As we discussed our team's recent health improvement, I shared my observations on the changes within the team, including the refreshed style, the introduction of new young talent, such as rising stars Caleb Windsor, Harvey Langford, and Xavier Lindsay, and the rebranding of Kozzy Pickett from a small forward to a midfield machine who can still get among the goals. I also highlighted the dominance of captain Max Gawn in the ruck and the resurgence in form in a big way of midfield superstars Christian Petracca and Clayton Oliver.

The Demons controlled the contest from the outset, though inaccurate kicking kept the Swans in the game until half time. But after the break, Melbourne put on the jets and blew Sydney away and the demolition job was complete.
