Hamish Hartlett

I stand to be correct then, for some reason I have this image in my mind of him being one-sided.

He ain't Mitchell-esque dual-sided. But he is a better non-preferred than Tyson or Kent.

Just incredibly injury prone.

I had this impression too, but I see he played 22 games in 2013, 2014 and 2015 which is pretty reliable.  He missed 7 games this year.

Would ANB and a 3rd rounder get it done?

He is probably the name being thrown around I am most excited about.

At his best, Hartlett is a classy mid with decent speed and good penetration. But I worry he is on a big salary for a player who is prone to soft tissue injuries (and Port will want to shift all of the cost). I would want to know why his 2016 was so ordinary. And as much as I am comfortable for us to trade our first rounder for the right deal, it comes at a big risk if the season goes pear shaped and we have a lot of injuries.

How do we get a first round draft pick to give to them?

2017 pick.

Yes i know that. We traded our first rounder last year to GC which is why we can't trade it to Port this year. I would assume if Port wanted to trade HH they want a first rounder in the upcoming draft not next year, hence my comment.

Yes we can.  You have to use 2 first round picks over a 4 year year period.  Nothing stopping us from trading our 2017 pick.

I think he knows that but is saying his opinion is Port would want a pick in this year's draft.

Wires crossed.

Could we try and get inventive and do something like trade our 2017 is Round Pick to Gold Coast or GWS for one of their many 1st Round Picks this year?

That could then allow us to on-trade it to Port of Hartlett selects us.

Possibly, worked last year for us! Could work out for them as I think they have to start reducing their list size don't they?

People talk about player loyalty, where has club loyalty to the player gone too?   he showed loyalty to stay last year and signed a 5 year deal and next year they tell him he might be traded?

I have liked him, but he has been poor this year - especially when Port needed senior players to stand up.  If we recruit senior players I would prefer mentally tough, strong leaders are recruited.  otherwise keep working on our youth.

port would not accept anything but a first rounder.

signed on big $$ and til the end of 2021.

would much prefer him to hibberd.

Port can pay part of his contract.

There must be an issue with him, he's a bloody talented player and despite having an average year surely considering they signed him for what 5 years they have to back themselves to get him right

trading him just seems weird.

He just typifies Port Adelaide, doesn't he?  He's one of those names you see on paper that are supposed to make up this team full of stars, but as Hinkley says, they've missed the finals the last 2 years now with all these stars so ultimately they're just names.

One thing in his favour is he can play mid and half back.  I think part of the reason we fell off Prestia is that, like Viney, Jones & Tyson, they can't play anywhere except the midfield. Hartlett, and for that matter Rockliff, appeal as they can rest back/forward.

2017 first rounder (i.e. pick 10) for a bloke we'll get about 75 games out of?  I dunno.  How good will he be in 4 years when Gawn, Hogan, Viney, Oliver, Petracca etc are in their prime and we are a legitimate threat?

ANB and a second rounder. Would that do it?

he would be just about the best kick in our side if he came on board.

Sad fact, but he wouldn't have much competition for this.. Salem, that is about it..

As Stuie noted wires crossed. my fault for being unnecessarily obtuse.

If Port trade out hartlett they will 100% want a high draft pick they can use this year, not next year so if it were us we would, as you have said, have to do something creative. I don't think your idea would fly though because there is every chance our first round next year will be a lateish first rounder, not a top 10 pick (keeping in mind GC already bet and lost on a future draft pick with us).

Perhaps we could trade next years first round pick and a couple of players for one of GC or GWS's first round picks. Though i don't know who really as anyone we don't want wont be attractive to either of those clubs. We would have to offer up one of our best 22 i reckon and i'm not keen on that option. You don't build a dynasty by trading out the building blocks.

Haven't seen Petracca play?

more likely they'll want 2017 first rounder and anb.

would love hammer.

he's got minimum five years left in him i reckon.

This bloke has got dodgy shoulders and also they could be trying to get us back for Toumpas.

Seriously? Watts is arguably the best kick in the league.

No, ANB has close to no value. He was a pick in the 40s and has not shown much in 2 years in the system.

No mate.

This article quotes that Port are trying to get in on the deal for Richmond's pick 6.

“But all that changed on Monday when he was told Port Adelaide wants to trade him for an early draft pick — such as the No. 6 in play between Gold Coast and Richmond.

  • REPORT: Hawthorn

The final score in Saturday's game against Hawthorn was almost identical to that from their last contest three months ago. Melbourne suffered comprehensive defeats in both games, but the similarities ended there. When they met in Round 9, the Demons were resurgent, seeking to redeem themselves after a lacklustre start to the season. They approached the game with vigour and dynamism, and were highly competitive for the first three quarters, during which they were at least on par with the Hawks. In the final term, they lapsed into error and were ultimately overrun, but the final result did not accurately reflect their effort and commitment throughout the match.

  • CASEY: Box Hill

The Casey Demons ended the regular season on a positive note and gained substantial momentum leading into the finals when they knocked the Box Hill Hawks off the top of the VFL ladder in their final round clash at Casey Fields. More importantly, they moved out of a wild card position in the finals race and secured a week's rest as they leapfrogged up the ladder into fifth place with their decisive 23-point victory over the team that had been the dominant force in the competition for most of the season.
