Who gets delisted, Saty?  I know you want to hold on to them all, but we will need to use at least 3 picks at the draft, which means we move on 3 players at a minimum.  Who, in your esteemed opinion, should be delisted or moved on?

And it was necessary was it? You have already admitted on he you go out your own way to bait others just to get a reaction.

Do that out in the public eye and would get your head caved in old man.

There was no need for it and you dam well know that.

I put this in another topic somewhere in the last week or two, we all seem to have the same opinion, that Terlich will definitely be one, that is not an opinion but I think a guy who hasn't got near all year must know himself,  possibly Grimes and then who knows?

In comparison to other years and other clubs, we have had a relatively dream run with injuries.

If (heaven forbid) we have 2 of our starting inside mids struck down with injury/illness, (and bearing in mind Chunk and Bernie are not getting any younger), I suspect ANB will be the '1st cab off the rank' with Trenners as '2nd cab'.

Terlich, Grimes, Michie, and probably Newton are gone.

Of course it's an opinion.  It's all our opinion, as we don't know it as fact yet.

You think Michie, Newton, Trengove and Lumumba deserve further contracts?

And have you told Terlich personally that he should be delisted?  You're always happy to tell others that we should say things to the players' faces, so I hope you've pulled him aside to tell him that over the last few weeks.  I'm sure he would appreciate it.

Ah yes violence, the answer to everything, strong advocate of that are you?

It was a joke, only you seem to be a bit thin skinned about it, how about posting something topic related

I had a chat to him about the very thing actually, talking about what the future might hold, all he can do is turn up to whatever team he is picked in and give it his best, it is out of his hands, delisting is like redundancy, nobody deserves it but it is a fact of life these days, it is not my opinion that he will be delisted it just looks as if that will be the outcome at seasons end, he probably thinks the same.

As for the others, as I said it doesn't matter what we think or who we think should be delisted, we are not inside the club and don't see or hear what is going on day to day, I do know that all players know exactly where they stand week to week, Roos has repeated that quite a few times

All the above you have mentioned must be considering their futures for varying reasons

As I have said before, if you treat the players with respect, you can talk to them about anything, besides which they know I am a 'good supporter'

Matt Jones is genuine depth, and has improved on last year and should be kept.

Kyle Cheney now plays for Adelaide and is doing quite well, having played most games this year.

Haha you're right, I meant to say when he was at Hawthorn. Cheyne's come a long way from being delisted by us.

I wonder if Dawesy would be of interest to a side like Brisbane who need basically everything, package Dawes and Garland up for them

They can have Dawes, Grimes, Dunn and Garland for their 2nd rounder

Sorry but my bet is King will be delisted.

You may be right, but personally I would keep him for another year. Not too many ruckmen are ready at 21.

they'd all be in the first 10 players selected at the Lions.

I would like to keep Dunn as insurance, because of his versatility, but I suppose for the right deal.

And Dunn and Pedersen ! Then they would have the basis of a backline and a Forwardline!

What a cop out. Get off the fence if you're not going to have an opinion yourself.

I agree, but isn't the Brisbane situation more a coaching problem and less personnel?

I very much doubt that the club would trade ANB, he is going to be ok, not everyone can fit in to the team immediately and some just have to bide their time. Players drop form, get injured and that's why you need depth and quite honestly I regard ANB as more than a depth player.

Same with Matt Jones and even JKH, they won't always be the first players picked, but will get games when the time is right.

Max King would be on the rookie list for three years at the end of this year. I think by AFL rules you cannot have a rookie for a fourth year and why would you do it anyway. Mitch King is the same ht as Max and if he can overcome his injury he will be an assest. We could take a chance on Steven Smith's son and promote him,he is a quick learner.

I think it's a combination of Coaching/bad luck, they have had some injuries but i think they have some talent and should be losing by 138 points..

Personally i think a side with Rockliff, Beams, Christiensen, Zorko, Martin, Hanley, Taylor and co in it should think they can compete with most sides, maybe not win, but they're better than 2 wins at 56 % or whatever they are at the moment.

This pretty much mirrors my views.

As a supporter, whilst being purely speculative, I believe ANB will stick around. From all reports (interweb postings) he appears to know his place in the MFC pecking order but wants to earn his spot. I'd also easily have him ahead of Michie, Newton and Terlich and should remain as a depth player (at worst).

Trengove I'd probably rookie, similar to what we did with Jetta. It gives us a way to promote him, without having to cost us a spot on the senior list. Sure, he's coming from a long way back, but I have a belief he may be able to return. But who knows, maybe this is just MFC rose coloured glasses. Only time will tell.

Terlich, Newton and Michie surely have played their last games. Grimes? I'm not too sure about him, I suspect he'll be on an AFL list next year, it just remains to be seen where. I wouldn't be entirely upset if he was to remain, but depending what sort of player we could replace him with, if he were to leave it may be for the best.

Garland and Dunn are interesting too. IIRC Dunn has a year to run on his contract, given that, I suspect he may stay around. He's of fairly little currency. But that places Garland in an interesting position too. I can't see both of them being on our list next year.

As far as I'm concerned, when you pick up a fringe player (especially a fringe mid) from another team, it's with the expectation that, given a better chance, they'll improve and move up a grade or three. You don't pick up a C-grade mid in the hope that they'll remain a C-grade mid. If they're still a C-grade mid after two seasons, there's not much point holding on to them.

Apart from Vince, Garlett and perhaps Cross (though he was always that good) toward the ends of their careers, we've had success with only our GWS pick-ups - Tyson outstandingly, but also Frost & Bugg - and to a lesser degree Matt Jones. All others - Michie, Newton, possibly BenKen (though he still has another year) - haven't really moved on from where they were at their previous clubs.

I really like Michie & Newton (and I really liked Aidan Riley), and part of me hopes that they will come good one day, but unfortunately it's hard to argue that they should be kept on our list, especially with the vast improvement in our midfield with the addition of Oliver, Brayshaw & Petracca and the improvement in Kent.

Not sure if this is the right thread for this post but check out this quote from Mark Evans...

Evans also said free agency would need to be monitored as it was not having the desired impact on equalisation.

"I think we say that the draft and the salary cap is a great equaliser, and we've added in free agency, which doesn't seem to have the same equalising effect," he said.

No shi* Sherlock!!!

i don't think anyone else would have ever in a million years expected it to be positive for equalization!

I agree with ANB and Trenners being straight in if injury occurs. I'm a fan of both and feel ANB will offer more going forward especially seeing the amount of ball he gets at present.

I'm guessing that these two could be on the block during the off season as they both offer some decent currency. More than Grimes and Dawesy anyway.

I wouldn't like to lose ANB or Trenners but would have no hesitation if trading them got us back in the high end of the draft or helped us jag a key position defender.

Its a ruthless game building a quality list

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
