I like your posting but this is a bit silly.  Perpetual cynic?  Do you accept everything you read?  I just used a basic "smell test" and his rumour smelt off.  As it's looking much of what GD has said is questionable about medicals etc.

If I've got a view about the likelihood of something happening or being correct are you saying I shouldn't post?  It's a forum for different views.  I'll stand happily by mine as they look reasonably good at the moment.  If Rocky comes to MFC and GD was right all along I'll recognize his information as correct and I was wrong.  Won't be the first time and won't be the last.

Where on earth is the "perpetual cynic" in that.

Who's smiling now? Yes take a bow.

Close thread. ?

Brisbane haven't mentioned anything though, sounds like it's us who have denied any interest or contact.

Definitely! but what i am saying is 3 days is a long time in footy, a lot can change.

there is plenty of chatter around about this, so time will tell

Does this mean Olisik was right ?

:)

When it's as emphatic as Melbourne saying they haven't even spoken to Brisbane and that they have no interest in Rockliff then it won't be happening.

Surely intelligent people can (now) read the play.

GD I frankly don't care if you give information or not.  I'll know by close of business Thursday what trades we've done.  I'd have had no issue with you posting your "rumour" but for the fact that you quoted sources that were so good the rumour couldn't be wrong. If you said you'd got it from someone else who was "generally right" I couldn't care less. If you can't understand the difference I can't help you.

And by the way, for all those that don't like what I've done I've not sent one PM to GD and I'll happily stand by my approach to this.  I've been too disappointed in the past by trolls putting hopes forward that I've subsequently found out were never even discussed and I questioned this rumour because it had all those hallmarks.

Don't read it then. Pretty simple.

Makes me laugh all these posters who get their knickers in a knot about whether or not a trade rumour is true on a internet fan forum FCS!

It's not a court of law. Take it with a grain of salt, regardless of accuracy.

Haha, indeed.

I reckon what Wright said was as emphatic.

He's a required player and he WON'T be traded is fairly strong, and they backflipped.

not saying it will happen, but nothing should be treated as an absolute in footy, especially during silly season.

but an intelligent person would know that as well.

Also Lewis deal will not get today according to slobbo, but will happen

I wonder if there is indeed no interest in Rockliff (and we haven't come out and said that...), I wonder if we'll switch our attention to a second target before the Lewis and Hibberd deals.

Personally I think Lewis, Vince and Jones are plenty as three really experienced and hardened midfielders. Rocky would have been one too many and I'm not surprised that SEN just stated that we were never interested. (Or something along those lines).

When you consider Tyson, Viney, Oliver, Petracca and Brayshaw should all be running through the midfield midfield next year with the last three hopefully really stepping up their minutes after healthy pre seasons, Rocky is one too many.

Especially given the fact that those five names genuinely need to be playing in the AFL rather than at Casey, (if fully fit).

They're all really important players.

Happy with Lewis and Hibberd as the experience injection for next year.

You can't see the difference between Wright towing the party line while he's in damage control with Melbourne saying we haven't even spoken with Brisbane and we have no interest ?

Why would we confirm interest in Hibberd and Lewis, but state we haven't even enquired about Rockliff ?

Anyway, your and my BS detectors clearly work differently.

I'll stick with last line in my previous post, but also recognise that there are (clearly) degrees of everything.

Come on, mate. You're better than that. Do you believe everything you hear from journalists? You're taking SEN as the mouthpiece of the MFC? Surely not. Until the MFC or BLFC come out and deny it, I'd say nothing much has changed from prior to Hudson on air at SEN.

When it makes sense it makes sense.

I'm better than that ?  What a stupid comment to make.

I'd prefer not to label you stupid. I'd just prefer to say that you should know better than to take what SEN say on face value.

We can now add Tom Rockliff the club of players who we thought we might get but never really had a chance of getting, he joins some pretty big names:

  • Peter Matera
  • Chris Judd
  • Patrick Dangerfield
  • Josh P. Kennedy

Don't need both Rockliff and Lewis. Needed one or the other, and (it looks like) we've got the one that will cost far less.

Where exactly have Melbourne officially come out and said it by the way?

Emphatically denying a player will even be considered for trade and saying even if he requests one they won't trade it is well and truly above towing the company line.

i would take that far more seriously than a report on SEN that we aren't interested every day of the week.

but again not saying they're wrong, just didn't really feel your "intelligent people" comment was needed.

They haven't. Apparently Huddo said it on SEN which may have come directly or indirectly from Melbourne. If it had come from some other sources it could also have been made up.

That was my point. A bit poor form to be insulting posters based on something Melbourne have said when they haven't actually officially said it...

Peter Matera agreed to join, changed his mind last minute. The other 3 were never coming to us

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Hawthorn and Melbourne. Two teams with impressive form from last week but with seasons that are travelling on different trajectories meet in Saturday’s twilight game for what could well be the most intriguing contest of the AFL’s penultimate round. Sadly, the game has been relegated to that unappealing time slot in the weekend when Melburnians are typically preoccupied with activities other than football. It falls between the morning's shopping, afternoon sport and recreation, and Saturday night fever. A time usually reserved for relatively insignificant events but this one is not a nothingburger for either of the clubs or their fans.

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
