I know many on this forum will lambast these commentators but it shows how we are realistically perceived in the media.

Didn't they say that last year too? Certainly, most media 'journalists' had us stagnating this year. WGAF what those two say. Their creditability is near zero. One is known widely as a bottom-feeder ambulance chaser, the other was a very good footballer, who is trying desperately to remain relevant in a media landscape that couldn't give a toss about him.

This makes me a bit angry: "We got a bit complacent against Carlton and thought, we've won three on the trot and everything's working well, this week it will come easy to us,"  from a 1st year player!!!   Meanwhile a chance to make finals, establish their credibility, increase membership etc goes begging! 

Petracca continues: "Roos is a bit more old-school and sometimes gives a few sprays but his mentality is really good, Roosy, and he's positive.  "With Goody, he's just understanding a bit more of relationships and obviously he's played in our generation, so he understands what it takes to make it a bit more."

Petracca thinks Godowin knows better than Roos 'what it takes to make it'!!  Well young Christian here is a message from a long standing, disillusioned supporter:  Roos has the runs on the board as a coach.  Goodwin does not!.  If you really want to know 'what it takes to make it' as a coach and as a team look at Hawthorn - 3 premierships in a row not just 3 games in a row!! 

Petracca is a good kid albeit naive so deserves some slack but who at MFC is allowing first year players to be interviewed and make public those thoughts especially as they do not represent those of the team!! 

Goodwin really has his work cut out if that is the attitude of player(s) on what is required to be a successful team, coach and club.

Settle down, LH.  

The first part is what we all thought happened, and getting out of that mindset takes experience.  If they're still talking like that in 2-3 years time then I'd be annoyed.

And all he did was compare the differences between Roos and Goodwin.  

Nothing to get yourself in a tizzy about.

I found out on 2 days ago that Roos cleared his desk out on the Friday before the Geelong match. Some may say `so what` but I reckon it might give us a little insight into the players seemingly `couldn't care less` attitude on the day. Finals were outta the question, the coach had already checked out, we may as well too!

I thought all the media  either emanating and/or sanctioned by the club was bland, no win situation?

Geez, that's interesting if true and gives me a different impression of that final match.

Guess 'Ol Roosy was in a rush to get that media career re-started. He's popping up everywhere now.

And yes, a couple of backhanders in there from Track which surprises me (considering his personality). I've heard rumours for years but figured it was just rubbish.

Interesting info but I have a different take.  The players finished at the club after Thursday training and have probably not been back since.  So the Friday was a good time for Roos to clean up and say goodbye to club staff.      

If players interpret it as 'Roos has mentally checked out so we couldn't care less' it is very childish and an indictment not of Roos but of the mental application and resilience of the players and the leadership group. 

I reckon the players were tired for Geelong but if there was a 'couldn't care less' attitude, I would bet it was because they 'checked out' before the Carlton game and were on 'easy street' (see Petracca interview in post above).  Roos talked to this 'easy street' attitude after the Geelong game saying the players needed to see they were not a finals side as they had not believed it - implied in that is players thought they could rest on their laurels and it would all just happen. 

It was no coincidence that at the BnF Roos' last message to players was: it is their choice to be great, it will not happen by accident, they have to want it and work for it and the time to be great starts now.  He was addressing their mental attitude, application and their desire - he saw what was happening pre Carlton. 

I believe players were tired for the Geelong game and accept they (may have) had the wrong attitude but not that it was because Roos cleared his desk.

10 do's and don't's for 2017

Never forget to remind the players they are better than they really are.

That it is more important to look and swagger like an AFL footballer than being one.

Tell them it's OK to make the same mistakes over and over again.

If players routinely miss easy set shots for goal, never tell them their kicking stinks.

The players feelings are more important than winning.

Players can come to training in their super hero costumes.

Engage Smiggles as new club stationary supplier.

If players feel tired they can abstain from training and update their Facebook pages instead.

If I lose my temper with them, immediately apologise and admit all my career coaching mistakes.

Allow mothers and Saty to attend performance management meetings.

Definitely true about the desk clearout, source is a relative to one of the coaching staff. The rest is just my thoughts on how it went do pear shaped. Agree with LH that the players were/looked spent.

Don't believe Track said that and "this week it will come easy to us" is naive slang, and is probably the author's interpretation of what he thought was said. So rubbish.
