LOVE that...

Gawn...

is coming to power, and could very well be the number one Ruckman by seasons end (touch wood). Sadly Goldstein beats him in terms of around the ground marking, tackling, goal kicking etc. but as a ruckman in the purist form, Gawn is currently number 1.

Viney...

is getting the recognition that Nathan Jones should have got the past 6 years. Absolute beast and now adored/admired by the likes of Robbo, Healey etc. Not saying i love them and value their opinions, but they do have a fair influence in the AFL media.

Watts...

please, please, please keep it up for the rest of the season/career. If anyone deserves to truly make it, it is you. MUST play well on the big stage on Sunday night. The whole of Australia will be watching due to the public holiday. IF he has arrived, that will be the stage to do it on.

2 out of 4 weeks for both Gawn and Watts. If they can build on that form and Viney can continue his rise to the elite, we will be a good side sooner rather than later.

Jones wasn't nearly as damaging in his fourth year. Jones has always attacked the footy/contest but his disposal/decision making was questionable. Jones game went to a new level under Roos/Stone.

Jones had an uncharacteristically high number of turnovers, especially by hand. He was very good otherwise.

Jones is apart of the very few in the AFL these days that can comfortably and dangerously use his opposite side.

I couldn't believe when he missed that set shot, he's normally insanely accurate in front of goal.

whenever Nate jones has a set shot i tend to put it down as a goal the moment i see the mark, not bad when you can have an off day and still play as well as he did.

Jones used to get caught a lot trying to barge his way through, he now thinks his way through situations/congestion.

On on a side note : Bring on Cotchin and the rabble that is the RFC.

All thoroughly deserved.

I didn't think it was one of Jonesy's better games by any stretch. Didn't use the ball as well as he usually does.

And Brayshaw (who is more or less ambidextrous)
and Bernie (will always love that left foot bomb of a goal against geelong last year).

I like that we have a few of them now

Interestingly Viney gets 10 coaches votes and is on the bench, Gawn gets none and is the ruckman. Simply an observation.

Lacks Wagner.

That would have been a great boost of confidence for him, making the team of the week in only his second game. Statistically, Hartley had a pretty average game, but I didn't see how he played. Interesting choice?

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the scorching morning heat to bring you the following observations of Wednesday's preseason training session from Gosch's Paddock. HARVEY WALLBANGER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Absent: Salem, Windsor (word is a foot rash going around), Viney, Bowey and Kentfield Train ons: Roy George, no Culley today. MATCH SIM: Friday 7th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatcher Gator ventured down the freeway to bring you his observations from Friday morning's Match Simulation out at Casey Fields. Rehab: Jake Lever and Charlie Spargo running laps.  Lever was running short distances at a fast click as well as having kick to kick with a trainer. He seems unimpeded. Christian Petracca, Kade Chandler, Shane McAdam and Tom Fullarton doing non-contact kicking and handball drills on the adjacent oval.  All moving freely at pace.  I didn’

    TRAINING: Wednesday 5th February 2025

Demonland Trackwatchers were out in force as the Demons returned to Gosch's Paddock for preseason training on Wednesday morning. GHOSTWRITER'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Kozzie a no show. Tommy Sparrow was here last week in civvies and wearing sunnies. He didn’t train. Today he’s training but he’s wearing goggles so he’s likely got an eye injury. There’s a drill where Selwyn literally lies on top of Tracc, a trainer dribbles the ball towards them and Tracc has to g

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
