Am very surprised that the Irish got that sookie !! still there IS a future for them in the AFL...with those tactics they are dead set starters at Collingwood !! lol.

Is it any surprise that biffo eventuated? Occam's Razor says one cause: Kevin Sheedy.

He was head thug in the dirtiest environment in my lifetime at Richmond in the late 60s early 70s. They even turned mild mannered Neil Balme into a temporary thug - that's how bad it was. Then onto Essendon where for many years they had an equally offensive opponent in crime in Hawthorn led by Leigh Matthews. The 1990 GF quarter time brawl where TD went berserk was the biggest in recent history. And then there's Long/Simmonds and Hardwick-Wallis/Green from the 2000 GF.

The only exception to the rule was the "Baby Bombers" in 1993. That in between he has put together some "marshmallow" outfits that couldn't deliver on the program is no get out clause.

Now the IR last year with Chris Johnson going crazy and then this year.

Sheedy can't have it both ways - either he habitually instructs his players to go the bash or he has so little control over his players that he is not fit to be coach.

I reckon Sheedy gave the crowd exactly what they wanted. Entertainment, a bit of a donnybrook and some blood and guts and gore.

I personally can't stand the IR game and I'd prefer it if we tried to promote our game internationally rather than a hybrid that doesn't quite work unless there's a bit of World Wrestling Entertainment added to give it some spice.

We should be trying to promote the game in other countries, eg England, US, to show these people that Australians have their own game and that we enjoy or game.

Just watch the game after downloading it earlier. I'd downloaded the irish coverage - no stephen Quartermain :D

It was interesting for a number of reasons:

1. The only time they laid blame squarely on a player for a fight was when the irish guy leapt at pace into the Aussies back.

2. They claimed the Aussies and Irish were equally guilty of unnecessary cheapshots.

3. The only criticism of the umpiring was late in the game saying they should have shown some reds, but didn't say who.

4. In regards to the Pearce tackle, they called it perfectly fair at the time and continued to do so through the game.

5. they were brutal on the Irish coach and the players tactics, especially with shots at goal dropping short and the method of kicking out from full back.

I was surprised, expected them to beone-eyed and have a go at the Aussie when I realized I had the irish feed of the game, but that wasn't the case.

As for the after match reactions, did someone say conmen?

Agreed...the irish coach was p@ss weak and making excuses for a very lame performance. The auusies have worked the game out and these lokes are going to look real bad if they come here with their attitude next year. My guess is they'll wimp their way out of it.
