I understand all that. And I am not advocating the end of the racing industry.

But ...

If there was no betting on horses, the racing industry would cease to exist.

It is a vehicle for gambling.

Gambling will exist no matter what the endeavour. There have been far greater match fixing episodes in what one may term mainstream sports, where people have gone to gaol as a result.

I can't stand this station. Not so much for the presenters, well a lot of them I can't stand actually but Andrew Gaze is probably the worst. How someone can trade on this lovable goofball schtick that he constantly puts out is beyond me. Very irritating.

But the real problem is the gambling advertising and innuendo. It is so pervasive that you don't realise how much they do it. If you are a gambling addict, recovering or on the precipice this station is very bad for your situation. Save nothing for the amount of ads in general but the gambling stuff is really bad.

Which is a shame because during footy season it is a great source of information - I guess I'm glad for stereo controls on the steering wheel so I can mute it or switch back to 774 or PBS!

It is a total turn off for me too - so much so that I switch stations immediately it comes on, either to ABC or AW or basically anything else, sometimes iPod (same as I do whenever that tiles man comes on whichever station).

I seriously find the all pervasive gambling advertising a total blight on the AFL - you get it at the game and on TV.

It is turning me off watching footy altogether. I rarely now watch entire 'neutral games', in part because of this barrage, or if MFC is getting a drubbing (all a part of history now of course)!

Interesting that the Ox copes. Good on him for overcoming that terrible curse.

Jockey's who eat mostly air for food to be under wieght is just sick.

I rarely listen in the evenings but on the odd occasion I have, that Mark Fine has done his nut at some caller who dared question him.

Absolutely tears strips off them. The guy's odd.

A selective and spurious quote, which takes the my argument totally out of context. I have had the pleasure of meeting and speaking with many who are hands on in the industry. You will not want to meet a more genuine set of people who love their jobs, their horses and the people they work with. Throw stones from the outside, but until you experience the true thrill of thoroughbred racing, you just will never understand.

Motor racing is probably similar, you could argue the drivers are sportspeople but the rest of the industry is part of the car or auto industry and really nil to do with sport...

Not from my experience. Sheep for wool, lambs for Sunday roasts. Of course, you have Alpacas and Llamas, but they are a very small niche agricultural business.

You must be reading the wrong publications. There is plenty of that info around if you look for it.
