Oliver will be our Patrick Cripps.

Na, Cripps was rubbish his first year. Clarry's coming out firing.

Yeah....didn't think about that too carefully with my original post, did I? I was just very confused by Fence's comment.

Just watched the video. First of all Roosy is all class, i could watch that all day.

Btw did anyone see the big handshake he gave Clarry then huge grin afterwards. That tells me Roos knows he has something pretty special and is a marrive wrap for the kid.

Not sure if it ever came out but Oliver was super keen to come to the Dees pre draft because he wanted to play under Roosy, get the impression he has kept tabs on him for a little while!

I was pleased to here Roos talk about the room for development but also how Clarry has won over his team mates by playing the right way. That would make me feel pretty chuffed as a young fella. You can see why Roos is well known as a players coach, he's been frustrated over the last two years but think his care for his players in genuine.

Be great if he saw something really special building at Melbourne with the likes of Hogan, Viney, Brayshaw, Petracca, Oliver etc and he just couldn't walk away from the club altogether. I reckon he'd want to be there when it all came to head.

That said I think he is genuinely looking forward to not being "the messiah" and "the man", and just letting Goodwin take over the club.

I still fully expect Roosy to be involved in some capacity in 2017, i suspect both he and PJ aren't the sort of guys to leave a job half done.

His wife is American and he has stated that he wants to spend time with her and her family and will be o/s a lot of the time.   But who knows, at this stage he is our coach.   The future will take care of itself.

Na he has to go, don't want the same drama with the handover like at Collingwood between Buckley and Mick

It won't be anything like that and I am pretty sure they (Coach and Club) are planning a role for Roosy at the club beyond this year.

I would like to see him as a developing coach.

Roosy has been great for the club, but I'm not sure Goodwin will want him hanging around.

I'm not sure I do either (not that that matters).

The major difference between the Mick/Buckley handover compared to our is that it is of Paul's own making. He is willingly handing over the reigns this year and doing so with more emphasis on Goodwin taking more of the lead. Whereas the Mick/Buckley was of Eddie's creation and Mick was the full senior coach right up to the end and he didn't want to hand it over at the end.

If Roos does hand around I think it will be in player development and transitioning the younger players from U18's to AFL players. I will say this though he won't have much to do with coaching I would think because it does have the potential to undermine Goodwin's leadership.

The commentators (not usually known to dabble in hyperbole) were saying it one of the greatest first halves of a debut of all time
