2015 Player Review - # 10 Angus Brayshaw

Great pick up; smart, brave, mostly clean, and an absolute competitor. Top notch pick up and future leader. What he did for Crossy's son will live with me forever.233658-96b4fbc0-5462-11e5-a3d5-9b39810bf

Said it at the time if a different thread, but will say it again. This photo would be so much better if that dick Howe wasn't in it. Can someone photo shop the plick out of it so I don't vomit when I see it?

I remember watching them carry Crossy off and straight away noticed Gus carry the little bloke off. Very special moment, and one that was caused by a first year kid.

Pulls in the chicks.. duh

Think it would be in Gus' best interest to use any alternative methods possible to "pull in the chicks". Don't think looks alone will seal the deal...

Sorry song, I disagree. I often have to read then re read posts because of poor spelling or grammar. Perhaps a better example would be to ask someone to stop mumbling so you can undersand them. We are trying to communicate after all, and being unintelligible does not help the cause.

m8. My phone auto-corrected Brayshaw to Bradshaw and the 'Peanut Gallery' on here who are obviously starved of original comedic material, jumped on it for several days now.

I'm no where near offended or stroppy about it, i'm taking it all as a compliment actually.

What I like about him is his ability to get possession, break clear and kick well into the forward line. Not bagging the valiant Nate Jones, but he often gets caught with the ball where Gus can open the game up and give the forwards a good crack at it.

Re: Angus….we are blessed.

(And I'm not superstitious….I'm a Demon!)

Went to training today and Brayshaw was the standout in terms of physical development in the off season so far. He has shreaded some of his puppy fat and added a couple of kgs in addition. He was looking seriously good. Very very excited.

Any other training updates?

Gus looked great in season one. Its amazing he averaged only 13 possessions, it feels like he averaged 20+. He is just so damaging in every thing he does with the ball.

I cant even think of anty obvious weakness he has. And before anyone says it, no he is not slow. Far from it.

I agree he doesn't have a weakness in his game. Tough, skilled, good defensively and strong overhead. Has a burst of speed and can kick on both sides. He isn't close to being our best player yet, but he is the most well rounded player on our list. I cant wait for another 2 preseasons into him.

Not to take anything away from Brayshaw, but I think Salem is just as much of a complete footballer. We're lucky to have them both.

Agreed. His impact on games is far greater than his 'low' possession count suggests. Feels like he's everywhere and in everything.

Love this kid.

He struggled pre season and put up a better season than a lot. Just think what he will do with a good pre season under his belt!

Best and fairest chance for mine

reckon he might have some decent competition for that actually

Beware the 2nd year blues

Salem has more class but Brayshaw is slightly bigger and stronger which I think just gives him a slight advantage overhead. Although Salem is quite good at that for his size. Salem also showed his strength with that tackle against Jeremy Cameron in our last game of the year. I think where Brayshaw gets points is that he is very effective on both sides while Salem favours his dominant side a bit more, which is a trend seen amongst almost all left footers.

had a gander at Salem this year ?? just saying...looking pretty solid :)

Why did he struggle pre season? Injury?? I cant remember....

I think the work load was more than he could handle at times.

In my opinion this bloke could be just as important to us as Hogan.

I'll admit, when we picked both he and Petracca i said on here that Petracca will play Round 1 and never look back, while Angus would take some time and some development. Boy was i wrong. We have a beauty, and i'm not afraid to say the cursed Demonland words in this regard:

HE WILL BE ELITE!

Why use the future tense? Close to it already.

"What a great kid" is an often overstated overused expression, but his enthusiasm looks contagious and his skills, reading of the play and disposal as well as tackling are just amazing for a first year player, and make this a totally appropriate expression to describe him.

Sign him and Jesse up for a decade, Peter Jackson, and sign yourself up for a few more post 2017 too.

  • REPORT: Port Adelaide

Of course, it’s not the backline, you might argue and you would probably be right. It’s the boot studder (do they still have them?), the midfield, the recruiting staff, the forward line, the kicking coach, the Board, the interchange bench, the supporters, the folk at Casey, the head coach and the club psychologist  It’s all of them and all of us for having expectations that were sufficiently high to have believed three weeks ago that a restoration of the Melbourne team to a position where we might still be in contention for a finals berth when the time for the midseason bye arrived. Now let’s look at what happened over the period of time since Melbourne overwhelmed the Sydney Swans at the MCG in late May when it kicked 8.2 to 5.3 in the final quarter (and that was after scoring 3.8 to two straight goals in the second term).

  • CASEY: Essendon

Casey’s unbeaten run was extended for at least another fortnight after the Demons overran a persistent Essendon line up by 29 points at ETU Stadium in Port Melbourne last night. After conceding the first goal of the evening, Casey went on a scoring spree from about ten minutes in, with five unanswered majors with its fleet of midsized runners headed by the much improved Paddy Cross who kicked two in quick succession and livewire Ricky Mentha who also kicked an early goal. Leading the charge was recruit of the year, Riley Bonner while Bailey Laurie continued his impressive vein of form. With Tom Campbell missing from the lineup, Will Verrall stepped up to the plate demonstrating his improvement under the veteran ruckman’s tutelage. The Demons were looking comfortable for much of the second quarter and held a 25-point lead until the Bombers struck back with two goals in the shadows of half time. On the other side of the main break their revival continued with first three goals of the half. Harry Sharp, who had been quiet scrambled in the Demons’ first score of the third term to bring the margin back to a single point at the 17 minute mark and the game became an arm-wrestle for the remainder of the quarter and into the final moments of the last.

  • POSTGAME: Port Adelaide

The Demons simply did not take their opportunities when they presented themselves and ultimately when down by 25 points effectively ending their finals chances. Goal kicking practice during the Bye?
