I blame the AFLPA (only half joking). The players should be embarrassed to pick up their fat pay cheques after insulting a once proud jumper the way they did on the weekend.

sorry to be padantic Deeoldfart but I think that it was the first outing for that jumper.

But whatever jumper they wore it was pi s poor.

The main reason I want an apology from the playing group is because they (the players) want us to show up week after week

Please explain to me if we as a club pride our game on contested footy why was only 2 tackles laid in the first qtr.

I could go on but that rubbish on the weekend is so poor it's undescribable

I received a thoughtful response from PJ. I won't post it, but it acknowledged what we rusted on supporters have had to put up with and confirmed that there's more work to be done, that will be done. Off field, the Club is clearly in good shape.

I don't think I would want to be an underperforming player at Melbourne in a fortnight's time.

Thanks for sharing frankie

It has cheered me up. But I am sick of words. I don't expect the players to hurt like us, but for me I want to see action this offseason (look at me one day in to being super peeved and I'm already back on the hope bandwagon)

I don't exactly know what, but I want them to do something.

I know our list is young (well the players who count anyway, bar jones, vince) the rest are inconsistent and weak. I guess the carlton loss hurts the most because they looked like they were showing improvement and I expected to see a w

It's amazing watching the gap in class between us and the West Coast. Their players can kick from anywhere in the F50 and they go through the big posts. We miss from 20m in front.

You do realise West Coast is one of the most inaccurate sides in the league, right?

Here lies the problem.

Because we want to see improvement we all see the players as being better than they are.

In the last few weeks we have been beaten by St Kilda ( twice ), Essendon and Carlton

All teams in the bottom third of the ladder.

Essendon have won one game in 12 weeks

Carlton have won one game in the last 8 weeks.

That tells me our talent level is poor.

No amount of effort compensates for a poor skill level.

The fact we've beaten Richmond, the Dogs, Geelong in Geelong, and Collingwood (worst record of any of those sides is 9-11), but lost to St Kilda (twice), Essendon and Carlton tells me the opposite.

The talent is there.

The killer instinct, the drive, the endeavour, the vigour, the winning culture, are not there.

Honestly you are falling for the MFC supporters trap you want them to be good so see things that are not there.

The score board does not lie. We are fourth last for a reason we have a fourth last list.

Well they can't move the whole team on...

Jones, Watts, Grimes, Garland, Dunn should all be put up for trade. It should be a KPI for Roos and the list management team to trade all of them. Their ineffectiveness during a match drives the rest of the team.

I seriously think a team led by Vince, Brayshaw, Hogan, VB, Petracca, McDonald, Salem is infinitely more attractive than the current boys club from the Bailey and Daniher years. Look at the Bulldogs.

Seriously, if there aren't major changes and legitimate talent brought in, then you have to question the viability of the club has a whole if it can't attract players.

The 'MFC supporters trap'?

If there's any 'trap' set by our supporters, it's turning a blind eye to any skerrick of positivity in favour of continually being negative and pessimistic.

I do not see things that are not there. We have a lot more talent than we previously had. At our best, we play finals-quality football.

The problem isn't whether we can play football. The problem is why we choose not to do so weekly. It's almost a worse problem. It's not like the answer is simply 'it's the cattle', or 'the list needs to be culled'. It's deeper, more ingrained.

Also we're fifth last. We're a draw behind St Kilda, who everyone raves about having an awesome young list.

The list isn't bad talent-wise. It's horrendous leadership/effort wise.

we are never going to agree t_u

I think the list is still ordinary and you think is a bit better than that well

Let's see what 2016 brings because IMO this year has shown little.

I will apologise first if this has been identified previously but..........

St.Kilda has won one of their past 7 matches

Carlton has won one of its past 8

Essendon one in its past 12!

Can anyone spot the common factor?

Well done Melbourne, so kind of you to let crap teams get free wins.

At 9:25am I emailed membership... Peter Jackson .... and Paul Roos asking for an explanation.

10:12am Paul Roos responded, a credit to the man.

Still waiting on the others.

Bloody hell. So Roosy's Monday probably consisted entirely of responding to member's emails. Let him do his bloody job.

Back in February I went to the AGM.

The CEO made a statement that it was not unreasonable to expect that the MFC would play finals football in 2016.

I wonder will that go down as the silliest thing ever said by a CEO

They may be comments that surpass that one but it must surly be in the top five

Come on, OD. What are we supposed to do as a club? Not aim for finals three years into Roos' tenure? If you don't set goals, you don't get anywhere.

Not defending current form.... Making finals in 2016 is not a pipe dream.. We prob should have been on 8 wins ... So another 4-5 wins is achievable .. List will be trimmed again .. Yes like any organization you need goals .. I'm in sales & my budgets always go up ..gotta aim high!

By no means is making finals next year a pipe dream. I'm a film producer. If we didn't goal set, we'd be [censored]. The same goes for all business. Set goals. It's not unrealistic to expect us to win 10-12 games next year.

Yeah, their 25 goals & 12 behinds was certainly inaccurate yesterday. Thank god our highly accurate team found a way to kick more behinds with 17 less scoring shots against the worst team in the comp.

And the reason so many people rave about the Saints' young list, despite our equal footing on the ladder, is their attitude. I've watched at least half their games this year and they always put in. Nobody pulls out of chases, nobody decides to pursue their man when the ball is in open space 3 meters away, nobody drops their heads when they're 50 points down. It comes down to one simple non-negotiable: unconditional effort.

We all agree that so much of our club's problems is above the shoulders; other young teams just go out with freedom and attack the ball with maximum effort. Our players look bored, disinterested, confused, almost pained to be playing AFL, as if it's some kind of miserable chore. Sometimes they don't turn up because they expect to be flogged, other times they don't turn up because they expect a cakewalk. It's an ingrained mental scarring that Roos gets criticized for mentioning, but the fact is you almost need a psychologist running this damn club to help these players.

My point is that even the CEO over estimates our list's ability.

We are bog ordinary and are way more than one season away from finishing eighth or higher.

The MFC is litered with what might have been.

The simple fact is we have won 6 no more no less so we need to win 14 to get close to eigth place in 2016.

We simply do not have the players to win 14 games in 2016.

Hopefully with some good recruiting this trade season we can improve the list.

But 14 wins next year?

Cannot see it.

I am also in sales Hogan and it is fine to set objects but if you set ones that have no chance of success you actually de motivate people.

Or like the time they kept Collingwood in the game by kicking 11.21.

Or the time they lost to North by kicking 10.15. Or when they drew with Gold Coast by kicking 11.17.

As for St Kilda, no doubt they're far exceeding our output right now due mainly to the fact they're putting in the required effort weekly. Their kids are able to play with that kind of freedom in part because their 25+ year old players are leading properly. I'd love for our leaders to put 100% in weekly and see what effect that has on our kids.

We are going to agree on this one.

This is the problem we have had for years we expect a bunch of kids to carry the side.

We have very few senior players who are any good.

I am actually glad and relieved that our senior coach has identified that infact a major problem does exist

Ever since Richmond moved onto the MCG in the late 60's The MFC has been secondary

Slow eradication.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
