Surely we will pay out M Jones and Terlich..

its terrible they are contacted and will suck to take the financial hit in the short term, but we can not carry F grade spuds any longer

I'd say Re MJones at 28+Yrs of age, he must be gone ???

Dude at work claims to know a player agent. Dees are approaching every midfielder they think is a chance.

Would be remiss if they weren't.

Very good source told me Jamar will play on next year but not with us. Has been offered a one year contract elsewhere.

I'm fascinated to know who.

I think it would be a case of buying his intellectual property, as he is very well known as being a master of his craft despite wearing concrete boots, and for being a capable teacher of young ruckmen.

If true, the offer would likely involve an ongoing assistant role once the playing contract is up.

My guess is Geelong.

Wasn't given any idea of where unfortunately. Would think if it's 1 year it would be a Melbourne team, Bulldogs could be a good fit?

I don't think it will be that many - unless we find homes for Garland, Howe, and Grimes. But even then you are looking at bringing in some very speculative talent in the back end of the draft or finding some limited players in Delisted FA.

Cross and Jamar retiring, M Jones and Terlich being paid out, the aforementioned three moving via FA and Trades, and the deletion of McKenzie, Hunt, Bail, Riley, Michie, and Fitzpatrick would be the maximum I can see and that is 13. Not much room to move.

You can also compare them to what they would bring in:

1. Mckenzie/Vanders

2. Bail/ND5

3. Terlich/ND27

4. Hunt/ND47

5. Jamar/ND66

6. Howe/*Trade Pick and/or Player*

7. Cross/Harmes

8. Fitzpatrick/DFA1

9. Garland/*FA Pick

10. Grimes/*Trade Pick and/or Player*

11.Michie/DFA2

12. Riley/ND86

13. M Jones/DFA3

The above are in some sort of 'desire to keep' order but the value return disappears in my opinion at Michie for the second delisted FA, we might see the back of more than that but I doubt it. I would keep Michie and Riley around but the latter hasn't played much and that isn't a good thing in a contract year - the return on the 11th change onwards isn't great.

this is a very, very good post. Hard to argue with most. Except for Grimes who i believe is decent but starved of opportunity and Cross, who i wish played on next year but to hear he will be a conditioning coach at the club, makes me feel good.

Where does Grimes sit in the bigger scheme of things ?? The guy was touted as the club's next Moloney back in his first or second year. He would be a useful depth player but he can't run for sheet.

I would really like to see Grimes play through the midfield and add depth. He is versatile in this way as he can play back and through the midfield. He hasn't had much of a chance to prove himself through there. In the VFL he plays through the midfield and collects a lot of disposals. You can see similarities between him and Cross. Works hard, highly professional, doesn't have star qualities but is just solid. Hopefully he can develop further.

1. When was he ever touted the "next Moloney", by anyone?

2. If he really is the next Moloney, we shouldn't waste time - sack him now.

I think all journalists will list Melbourne targeting X midfielder. It's common knowledge.

I note Jon Patton's not getting a game. MFC supporter as a kid, was on the rise before his injury. Big lad. Does anyone think he'd be a good foil for Hogan?

Of course he would be, but after trading Boyd last year I can't see them parting with Patton this year. Plus his injuries over the last few years would worry even the most hardcore supporter.

With McCarthy and Tomlinson ahead of him and injuries included, I wonder if we could get him cheaper?

Doubt it. McCarthy has had a good year, but with all the time they have put into him I can't see them giving up and trading him away at this point. To see him prosper elsewhere after they helped him back to full fitness would be a bitter pill to swallow. There is still lots of upside in him and I have no doubt they hope he can slot in at CHF next year beside Cameron and McCarthy.

An embarrassment of riches up there. Glad at least, to see Treloar going home. The more their talent is dispersed across the league, the less threatening they become. The same with Gold Coast.

Lol. Moloney was never an A grader. He was a downhill skiing B grader.

Heard from a good source that he'll be gone at years end.

RETURN TO NORMAL by Whispering Jack

One of my prized possessions is a framed, autographed guernsey bearing the number 31 worn by my childhood hero, Melbourne’s champion six time premiership player Ronald Dale Barassi who passed away on 16 September 2023, aged 87. The former captain who went on to a successful coaching career, mainly with other clubs, came back to the fold in his later years as a staunch Demon supporter who often sat across the way from me in the Northern Stand of the MCG cheering on the team. Barassi died the
