We haven't won a final in consecutive years since 1990/91 - that would be a nice one to tick off this year.

Aside from Gold Coast who haven't even played in a final yet, we hold the longest drought in terms of not winning a final in consecutive years.

Next I think is Carlton - 2000/2001.

Win a final outside of Victoria

- Last win: Never (2 games, 2 losses)

I'm not sure if we can cross this one off the list.

Technically we were the home team in all our final wins so we essentially had equal if not more of the crowd support in all three finals.

I consider this drought still active until we win a final outside of VIC as the genuine away team.

None of these records embarrass me anymore, win flags and the rest is irrelevant.

Well maybe the 190/186 point losses if we can eradicate that I'd be happy.

Eradicating the record 190 point loss can be done in one of two ways. Either somebody else loses by 191 points to another team or they lose to us by that amount. I'd take either, as it gets us out of the record books. However, I wouldn't object if we were the team inflicting the pain for a change.

Haven't been able to buy a Chico Roll at a Melbourne game since about 1979.

I was really upset when For’N Twenty discontinued their fantastic Cornish pasties. Always had one or two at a game. Disappeared about two decades ago I believe.

Do Chico rolls still exist? Or have they gone the way of other fine delicacies like the Polly Waffle?

Available n Coles, but I don't want to cook them.

Just buy and devour........ at the footy.

We need to win 4 in a row…. (At least..)

So that Tiger, Whorethorn and Jeelong persons can be silenced and told to “Sit Down”

And so that we get back to the top of the ‘number of premierships’ list, where we belong!

Clearly they’re not listening to you. Not the ones around my neck of the woods, anyways. 😉

Not beating North Melbourne at least once at Marvel in the stadium's 21 year existence not raise your eyebrow?

We haven't played North Melbourne at Marvel since 2014. Not like we've had the opportunity lately.

And we've only played them there 8 times in total, six of them over a period of 5 years when we were hopeless (2009-2014).

We've just won a premiership. All those other piddly records are history and meaningless.

You've obviously never been teased by a Sydney supporter over the fact that we haven't beaten them on a Sunday at the MCG since 2001.

My non-MFC  mates rib me about that one all the time, and they're not going to stop regardless of how many flags we win.

And Sydney haven't beaten us at the SCG since 2016. 😉

Slightly different, but still waiting for a Melbourne player to kick 100 goals in a season.

Maybe it will be Bbb. Tough effort to do in today's game though.

We never try to individualise in our forward  line !! So no 100 goal kicker.

quite possible given we will kick 400+ goals over 25 games :)

Has there ever been a team with two players kicking 100 goals each in the same season? If so, I can't recall. I do remember when more than one player in different teams kicked 100 goals in a season. It's hard to believe now, but when we had full forwards like Hudson, Wade, McKenna and Jesaulenko (who wasn't always a full forward) and significantly less defensive pressure, I think it happened a few times.

Hawthorn had Hudson 105 in 1977 and Matthews was second on list with 91 for the season.

Different footy those days - Tigers kicked 23 goals in GF  and lost

Pretty sure there was a year when Ablett, Dunstall, Lockett and Modra all cracked the ton as well?

ok, here we go (since 1968)

3 x 100 goal kickers:

  • 1970 Hudson McKenna Jesaulenko
  • 1993 Modra Ablett Dunstal

2 x 100 goal Kickers:

  • 1969 Hudson Wade
  • 1971 Hudson McKenna
  • 1972 McKenna Blethyn
  • 1987 Lockett Capper
  • 1991 Lockett Sumich
  • 1992 Lockett Dunstal
  • 1994 Dunstall Ablett
  • 1995 Lockett Ablett
  • 1996 Lockett Dunstall

as you can see there were 2 golden periods 1991 to 1996 (shown in green) and 1969 to 1972 (shown inred)

Quite ridiculous that 3(!!) players cracked the ton in 93 considering there were only 20 H&A games per team (2 byes each) - the same for 1969 as well.

In fact some of the earlier goalkickers like Coventry, Pratt etc would have been during an 18 game H&A season, Pratt kicking 150!

THAT WAS THE YEAR THAT WAS: 2024

Whichever way you look at it, the Melbourne Football Club’s 2024 season can only be characterized as the year of its fall from grace. Whispering Jack looks back at the season from hell that was. After its 2021 benchmark premiership triumph, the men’s team still managed top four finishes in the next two seasons but straight sets finals losses consigned them to sixth place in both years. The big fall came in 2024 with a collapse into the bottom six and a 14th placing. At Casey, the 2022 VFL p
