The article at the start of the season said Prestia would make his decision half way through the year. Can't imagine he'd wait any longer. His club is sinking and ours is clearly on the rise.

Jumping the gun AF.  This article says:  Prestia won't turn his mind fully to his football future until the Suns' round 13 bye, http://www.afl.com.au/news/2016-05-26/who-heads-the-queue-for-dion-prestias-signature.  Prestia was pick No.9 in Gold Coast's inaugural 2010 draft and industry sources believe the Suns would demand at least a pick around that mark should he request a trade.

It talks about the Dees as having interest in last years trade period.  There is nothing about the Dees now.  Some clubs have been told Dion won't go there. ( Maybe we have been put off by a top 10 pick for trade and maybe we don't want to match his $$ asking price).

Why would he make his mind up 3-4 months before anything can be done about it? I would've thought it wiser to consider offers until September and then make a decision. What happens if he agrees with lowly team A in July and team B playing finals offers $200k more in Sept after creating cap space? Can't see the logic..... unless his manager is playing him.

If we've cooled on him, you'd have to assume that we're setting our focus on a more promising lead, and we've made the decision to sacrifice (potentially) our 2017 first rounder for another player instead of Prestia (due to injury concerns).

I'd love the guy at the Dees too but Gold Coast will want an unreasonable pick for him. With the question mark over his injuries the footy dept would rightfully not want to sacrifice a good pick that might be a bust (that goes for O'Meara too).

Then they are wrong. They have nowhere the list we have and theirs will get worse with guys like Simpson, Murphy, Gibbs, Daisy and others retiring soon.

Prestia is a very good player but we have a million guys of his type and the asking price will be too high. Even if Vince retires at the end of next year we have Oliver/Petracca/Brayshaw coming through.

And you think 3 of those guys will win us a premiership? Prestia is an A grader. If you have a chance to get an A grader without selling the farm, you pull the trigger.

I don't think he is an A-grader.  He's like Marc Murphy or Cotchin, who have had one A-grade year.

He is nowhere near as good or influential as either of those two. He also lacks versatility and is purely a midfielder.

Is he?  What has he done to be given the title of 'A grader'?  All Australian?  Nope.  Brownlow Medallist?  Nope.  Best and Fairest winner?  Nope.  

Let's no kid ourselves here Adam.  He has shown he has the potential to be a very good player, but he isn't an A grade player.  He is a handy player who exhibits potential to get better, but that is no guarantee, and we know that his body is not exactly in top shape either.

...and we already have about 8-10 of those.  Mahoney said during last year's draft period that we had 6-8 potential A - graders and a couple of potential elite on our list.  We can always do with more but your assessment is spot on imho.

well i'm not sure if dion is an a grader, but he's certainly not in a grade form this year. there may be reasons for this year though

Tyson was in great form in 2014, poor in 2015 and back to great form this year so far. Prestia will be the same, he's coming off a bad run of injuries.

Completely disagree. He's 23, injury has interrupted his last campaign and he's finally getting a stretch of games again, while averaging 25 disposals a game, in a side that has played horrendous footy. He also possesses that explosive pace from stoppages that our midfield (aside from Viney) so sorely lacks. 

In 2013 he averaged 25 disposals. He then averaged 27 disposals in 2014 (the year I assume you're calling A grade). In his 8 games before injury last year, he also averaged 27 disposals. Since working back from his injury, it might take him a little time to get back to 27+. I really think you've misjudged this one, but each to their own.

It'll be interesting to see if some change their tune if we land Prestia.

His impact and disposal is presently way off A-grade.  I've been watching closely. 

Injury certainly hasn't helped, but excuses don't alter reality.

What grade would you class Treloar? He's a better kick and decision maker than Treloar, IMO.

Averaging high levels of disposals doesn't make you an A grader.  It's how you use them and the impact that they have on games.  

I'd love to change my tune on him if he came to the club and built on his talent and skills, but right at this minute he is not an A grade player.

Treloar hasn't had an A-grade year, but he's unquestionably a very talented young A-grader in the making.  He doesn't work hard enough defensively, but is a ball magnet, who reads the play very well and kicks goals from the midfield.  While numbers of possessions in themselves don't define a player it's a handy skillset to get your hands on the footy.  Lord knows we've lacked ball magnets over the years.

I prefer Treloar as a talent.  He averages more disposals and has kicked double the amount of goals from virtually the same number of games.  I value goal-kicking mids and think Treloar will continue to increase this metric.

I dispute Prestia is a better kick.
