Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Open training miscommunication - another MFC unforced error

Just recieved a signed card for my kid from HL as well as a mascot toy and fridge magnet. Very well recieved. Good gesture by the club after Monday's training events. I'll buy a child membership and some more merchandise to reinforce the support. We like the excitement of doing this in person rather than online. Thanks Jane at MFC, much appreciated.

So you had to wait a little bit at training and proceeded to bash the club with post after post. Now that YOU have had your little butt kissed you are happy now.

I wouldn't mind betting that 90%+ of memberships are purchased online/via phone

If it was the 1980s or beforehand, the importance of a physical tent would be relevant

Yreah coz we don't have any older supporters that wouldn't know how to use the internet do we? We are a youthful bunch of new supporters. ridiculous. The tents out the front of the MCC on Rd1 are always packed with people. Your suggestion that just because the majority of members buy online or by phone these days is reason enough to just not bother with a members tent is ridiculous. We need every member we can get!

You are a sad, lonely man Curry, always negative and spoiling for a fight. At least I went to Monday's training.

where did I say 'don't bother'

I said it is nowhere near as important as it used to be

Don't be a smart arse .. despite what our generation is used to or views as normal, there is an older generation that don't shop online or by telephone. There is a clear fear of giving card details over the phone etc. They prefer to purchase face to face.

I'm not being a smart arse. I am pointing out that in the year 2015 there is absolutely nothing 'new-fangled' about the internet.

Perhaps the club disagrees with your position, given the proportion of revenue raised vs the overheads they have observed when comparing physical to online/phone sales

that would explain the lack of importance placed on it, wouldn't it? Don't forget that the club staff is not myopic, but a mix of people who have worked at other AFL clubs and other sporting organisations. They know how things work, and it may well be that physical mebership stands are a thing of the past. It might be that the cost of setting them up and paying people to man them outside the ground on match day actually creates a loss on the balance sheet.

I know that speaking personally it wouldn't occur to me to find a tent and line up on gameday when I can get the job done from my desk in about 3 seconds

A lot of people like to use this site as a vessel to carp on the club without necessarily being aware of the facts

In 2015 people buy their memberships online, seriously doubt that many people would see a membership tent, think it was a good plan and buy a membership at the drop of a hat, when they had no intention of doing so, or even more far fetched, don't renew ever again because they couldn't find a membership tent at a training venue.

There are large segments of the populace who still do not like buying things like that online. And as binman alludes, why have a tent at games or the family day if it is a waste of time?

Merchandise is the same - you are more likely to buy if given the chance then not, right? So if you have 200 people who already have an inclination to buy something 'red and blue' it might be an idea to sell those 15 caps, 10 jumpers, and 5 hoodies. I don't think we are a club that can ignore that chance to sell something and ourselves.

I think your missing the point C&B.

the club is here because of us, & those who have gone before us. it relies on US. the players play for the accolades from the outer, those who jump up & down & shout & roar.

they owe us after the last 50 years. Hell move the whole adminsistraition over to the training oval for the day if necessary to show the faithful the LOVE.

its time the club came down to the supporters level & shared with one another. stop the marketing spins & bullsh, & just get honest & press the flesh & share the dream, rather than trying to fleece us.

respect, a little message to the club. >

The club isnt there because of you Dee-luded, as youve said you are not a member.

Makes me wish I could tell how many of the serial complainers are not members.

Perhaps its easier for the non-members to complain as they feel that every such event/mistake justifies their not having paid up.

I can't believe people are still talking about this.

Please request that "Club Communications" and "Marketing/Sponsorship Opportunities" is added as an agenda item at the next AGM, so that it can be discussed in a forum where some of the ideas may be considered. They sure as hell aren't going to be by ranting on here.

Why, because none of the complainants will either attend or if they do, actually stick their hand up and discuss when they have the opportunity?

no, because question time does not really allow for discussion

there are better ways

Wow curry your are being a dick

Your are fighting a small argument with people but can't argue with someone putting4k into the club and not getting a phone call to renew

Replying To a complaint with some signed stuff wtc is good customer service and is something the club does poorerly. This respect to a member is required Rather than a one way street which is the current situation

Sadly this club should not be without criticism... I've realised that most people will accept this due to idolim but the afl but really looking at the industry it's very incestual environment... Whisper forty football players on a list develops a diverse ranges on off field talent that reality is that only hires it's own and they are not the cream of the crop despite what they are paid..Josh Maloney is a good is example he went from an assist coach to football manager but really he only knows the afl way of doing rhings... A real manger would confirm priorities and pull the football department up if it's not inline with the clubs goals but they don't know how to do that...

The afl is it's own little beast but whilst I love the club for my own personal reasons and it relies on this passion to create its funds it's sadly struggling in any real world stuff and would struggle if it was a corporation that had to make money rather than just survive

Someone asked how many were there so I have posted some crowd photo's I took on Monday. The link is http://imgur.com/a/HEk6d#0a few taken at midday and then some taken once the players hit the track. There were some very healthy numbers there.

HAve tried to resist comment

BUT

Noted New Balance signage on tent and some advertising on Umberella

So not that hard

MAybe could have been promoted a bit more professionally to get even more numbers there to achieve all the returns that others have indicated.

Not a pass mark at all.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

    OOZEE by The Oracle

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
