Are some of the Casey guys playing in this to make up the numbers? It would make some logic considering the fact that the MFC is paying their coaches and they are trying to align the game plans.

GO DEMONS!!!

Lets start the season off with a win

Garlett and Stretch among the other goal scorers according to the live coverage.

Come on ...go with the big statement HH !

If we lose this one I am never posting on Demonland again.....

I've been impressed with Newton so far. he's gonna be a gem.

Watts, Howe, Vince

Rumours that Colin Garland injured a hip at Monday's training appear to have been exaggerated if he's playing today.

Perhaps his nick name should be Paul

Brayshaw taken off (cotton wool) bruised face from collision apparently.

3 goals for Garlett now.

Not a great trainer in terms of stamina, work ethic etc. by all training reports, but put a ball in his hand and let him play the game, and boy is Garlett a beauty:

Garlett hits Dawes with a nice pass

Matty Jones - fine work. Runs and carries the ball with a bounce and finds Garlett, who finishes with a goal.

Jeff Garlett produces some pace and class and kicks a fine goal

Jeff Garlett kicks a fine goal from the boundary. Nice work by the new Dee

Jeff Garlett again kicks truly. He's been very good.

* Continually editied as GARLETT KEEPS DOING STUFF!!!!!111one!!!!11

Scratch that, make it four. Sam Frost and Oscar Mac are also among the goal scorers.

Frost is being played as a forward?

'Sam Frost goals'. I thought he nicked a hammy at training on Monday.

Shannon Byrnes is.

Hogan has 3 now?

Hogan and Garlett!... seven goals between them.

Yay!

  • REPORT: Western Bulldogs

The next coach of the Melbourne Football Club faces the challenge of teaching his players how to win games against all comers. At times during this tumultuous season, that task has seemed daunting, made more so in light of the surprise news last week of the sacking of premiership coach Simon Goodwin. However, there were also some positive signs from yesterday’s match against the Western Bulldogs that the challenge may not be as difficult as one might think. The two sides presented a genuine football spectacle, featuring pulsating competitive play with eight lead changes throughout the afternoon, in a display befitting a finals match. The result could have gone either way and in the end, it came down to which team could produce the most desperate of acts to provide a winning result. It was the Bulldogs who had their season on the line that won out by a six point margin that fitted the game and the effort of both sides.

  • CASEY: Brisbane

The rain had been falling heavily in south east Queensland when the match began at Springfield, west of Brisbane. The teams exchanged early goals and then the Casey Demons proceeded like a house on fire in the penultimate game of the VFL season against a strong opponent in the Brisbane Lions. Sparked by strong play around the ground by seasoned players in Charlie Spargo and Jack Billings, a strong effort from Bailey Laurie and promising work from youngsters in Kynan Brown and  Koltyn Tholstrup, the Demons with multiple goal kickers firing, raced to a 27 point lead late in the opening stanza. A highlight was a wonderful goal from Laurie who brilliantly sidestepped two opponents and kicked beautifully from 45 metres out.
