Alex Neal-Bullen is 3rd from the top 10 fantasy scorers for the 2014 under 18 championships. Even he looks the goods. Our mid is set (hopefully we top it off with Danger next year!)

We should be very happy with what we picked up. Really consolidated our midfield depth (and talent) and got the developing key back we needed.

Agree Chaser I like the style and type of players we have targeted. Certainly won't be any more bruise free footy from our boys.

I didnt wanna get too excited as we MFC supporters have been burned so many times

But then I saw the interview with Petracca and Brayshaw

Never seen two freshly drafted kids that excited going to any club before, let alone the MFC

Is there a link to that anywhere?

Spot on. Need to have guys who can win their own ball before worrying about drafting flair players, and we got three of the best inside ball winners in the draft. In doing this we've also helped the cause of Jimmy Toumpas no end. Really solid drafting strategy this year.

Melbourne really needed to do well in this draft, 4 mids and a key defender is spot on what we needed and they are all really outstanding football players as well as genuinely competitive types.

Alex Neal-Bullen was a steal and of anyone watched his pick me, he threw the words "loyalty and competitive" just what we need.

Can be the start of an imposing midfield group.

What a draft!

We acquired the two highest rated mids, one arguably the drafts best talent.

We then stole Neil-Bullen, arguably SA's best midfielder in a team that won the National Carnival. Knightmare also ranked him at #24.

Then again another steal with a tall in McDonald who Knightmare also ranked highly at #26.

This is the exact kind of thing I love and ask for. The recruiting team selected the best available and then played the odds to our favour by selecting players with excellent preexisting outputs.

Well done to the recruiting team my hat goes off to you! and congratulations to our new draftees - let the hard work begin. :)

GO DEES!

A question...what happened with Jetta's upgrade? I don't see it mentioned anywhere. Is there a different process for upgrading rookies.

They stated in the prelude that upgrades would not be called out.

AFL changed process, rookies confirmed prior to draft and would not be formally announced at the draft.

I watched the live version and they stated before the start of the draft that the list of all evaluated rookies was released publicity (website) and that they were essentially skipping the formalities.

He has still been upgraded to the senior list. :)

Great result tonight, and now if we can pick up Bampton, and either Matthew Hammelmann or Tyler Keitel in the rookie draft it would be almost perfect

Seems like one of those drafts where the right things just fell into our laps.

3rd rounder for SOS.

Pick #3 for Frawley.

Saints take McCartin, leaving us Petracca to go with Brayshaw.

ANB & McOz slip to 40 & 53 respectively.

Is it MFCSS to ask: Too good to be true??

I guess history will be the ultimate judge but what do those that were miffed we gave up ND23 for Frost, 40 and 53 think at this point?

We look to have secured Frost, Alex Neal-Bullen (an impressive inside mid the 'experts' say) and Oscar McDonald (and impressive tall the 'experts' say).

All for ND23 (and Barry and Evans of course).

Certainly think Neal-Bullen would have been worthy of pick 23 in his own right, so to get both he and Frost for 23 is a very good result.

2024 Player Reviews: #1 Steven May

The years are rolling by but May continued to be rock solid in a key defensive position despite some injury concerns. He showed great resilience in coming back from a nasty rib injury and is expected to continue in that role for another couple of seasons. 2024 Player Reviews: #4 Judd McVee

It was another strong season from McVee who spent most of his time mainly at half back but he also looked at home on a few occasions when he was moved into the midfield. There could be more of that in 2025. 2024 Player Reviews: #3 Christian Salem

The luckless Salem suffered a hamstring injury against the Lions early in the season and, after missing a number of games, he was never at his best. He was also inconvenienced by minor niggles later in the season. This was a blow for the club that sorely needed him to fill gaps in the midfield at times as well as to do his best work in defence.
