Worried and disgruntled about Roos' limited tenure

To those hand wringers worried about the 'state of the club' - we can only move forward with the best we can do from now. The present.

Roos is not going to just [censored] off and leave the club in 2017, he is a Demon now. He will have coached 66 games and hand balled the life consuming job of head coach to Goodwin. Roos may even move up the chain and give our board some appreciated help when it comes to football decisions and AFL industry lobbying.

Jackson is doing a fine job from all reports and the board look to be quiet if not impressive, I will take quiet.

What you are seeing is the club waking up from the malaise, what we don't need is for, once again, the grudges and anxieties that plague those that follow this club to manifest themselves under Roos and, more importantly, under Goodwin.

Building a winning culture, comes before winning, winning will bring out all the dormant Demons, and only with all the desperate groups and factions behind the club will we be strong enough to thrive long term.

Thinking of ways to strengthen that is helpful, looking at the avenues to tear it down is, seemingly, the Melbourne way...

i think after 2016 Roos will move into an advisory/consultancy sort of role for Goodwin and the other coaches

Will allow him to stay with the MFC and be a sounding board for Goodwin an co. and have the say in decisions at the club while still spending part of the year in Hawaii

He will still be pulling the strings after 2016 I have no doubt

Agreed the Hawks woke up after the 1996 Merger talks/vote, it took us 17 years to wake up. Lets hope in 17 years time we have 3 flags, over 70k members, large financial turnover every season and players coming out of contract queing up to join the Dees

With due respect RPFC, supporters have been burned many times and are rightfully cynical. But they can do no harm unless they walk away from the club. I was like that for a while as our decline under the previous regime was in freefall with no relief in sight. My attitude has changed because there has been radical changes and really we have no alternative but to back the current regime because there is no other alternative anymore. We will live or die with Roos and his associates. Our backs are firmly planted against the wall. There is only one direction that we can entertain or else just give up.

I don't disagree. My issue is not with those that question and prod and push, but when the talk goes immediately to the personalities involved and a desire to move on them - I have to roll my eyes.

Consider this:

I reckon Brad Scott is an ordinary coach. I reckon James Brayshaw is a bit of a peanut. I reckon a lot of North's players, both old and young are overrated.

But North rebuilt with picks in and around 2009 and kept a steady core of veteran players. They missed out on Buckley and signed Scott. They compete most weeks. They had ups and downs along the way. But they've just won 2 finals and made a prelim. They've also signed (even if they are suspect) 2 free agents.

Most pundits will predict them to make the top 6 next year and that's a reasonable prediction. They probably wont win the flag but they should play finals and at least be in the race for finals if not top 4.

We've got a laid out plan for the next 5 years that doesn't involve tanking, playing kids or some other philosophy. It's just to get better year by year. Bringing in some good players at a variety of different spots on the list and developing kids. Roos has 2 years to develop Goodwin and just as importantly 2 years to develop the rest of the coaches. If he hasn't done it by now I don't think he'll sack Misson and fiddle with the sports science. I don't think he'll change the plan with Jason Taylor and Todd Viney. 2 years with Roos, 3 years (which probably means 2 guaranteed) with Goodwin.
