Just keep him, still only 22

This is the issue that I have with the thread.

I don't have a problem with having a thread like this if you are going to create one for every single player on the list. You are saying that people here are deferring and deflecting, but you are making a thread just about Watts which again in my opinion is unfairly focussing purely on one player and making things about him and his worth purely.

To be perfectly honest, whilst I said keep, I have no issue with whatever the list management team chose to do with ANY of our players, we know we have to improve the list a lot, and we are going to have to sacrifice some players/picks in order to achieve this. What I do have an issue with is the apparent infatuation with Watts and the notion that trading or keeping him will apparently single handedly make the team better / worse.

IF we trade Watts at the end of the year, whoever picks him up is going to be laughing all the way to the bank, and we are going to have to put up with muppets in the media telling us that trading Watts was a stupid move and that the MFC have committed the biggest mistake since drafting him in the first place.

Really hope you are right but how long to you keep putting up with him waiting for him to improve and what of the example to the other team members The effect it has?No wonder they stopped kicking the ball to him 2 years ago!

on a side note it was nice to see him put a GWS player on his ass and give away a 50

First time ive ever seen him get angry

I reckon the CDFL would be too rough unless he played for the Bay who are bit soft.

People have been killed for saying that.

Is this really helpful?

Has never been surrounded by players that will bring out the best in him. Needs to be

Helpful in what sense? How is any discussion on here "helpful"? It's just a discussion.

Your second line is precisely one of the reasons why we're in the position we are. Players waiting to be led.

You seriously saying he needs someone to hold his hand ??

Must admit the vote is just about where I thought it would be just nigh of 50/50

after 6 seasons he STILL hasnt got there, at this rate he might just get close to it by the time he retires...fmd

The difference between JW and Dunn is that Dunn was never afraid to go in hard.

Never seemed to avoid a clash if one presented.

JW is a marshmallow in this area.

good point. Dunn has bravado , was just ill-timed and directed earlier on in his career

Watts has skill :unsure::rolleyes:

I wonder if Geelong would accept:

Watts + a pick in the 20-30 range

FOR

Allen Christensen

I think it would be win-win. Geelong get another pick to help replace forthcoming retirees, getting Watts who certainly needs a change and has potential. We get Christensen who is a proven ball winner.

Seriously, I think the time to trade him is now. Otherwise we're just going to end up with another Sylvia on our hands.

No idea what other clubs would/will pay but its the bolded line above that concerns me most.

I wonder how many Sylvia apologists would now be prepared to acknowledge we ought to have done all a favour and parted company long before we did.

We are looking to BUILD a team that puts in 100% and has impact on the field. I just dont see JW fitting into our needs now. He's icing on someone else cake possibly

My concern is that I think we've seen the kind of player he is. I don't think he gets better than this. He's the kind of guy that will only improve as the team improves. We need actual drivers and influencers. He is not one of those. I like the bloke but I've thought since 2012 that it's time to test his value and go in a different direction. We drafted him with the idea of Bailey's run-and-gun style and he would have been perfect for that but defensively and one-on-one he just doesn't suit the mould. Since Neeld and now Roos, he has been exploited as the player he is: an outside runner that has no place in a defensive grind, especially one trying to find its feet.

I think he gets highlighted because for a club that's so lacking in fight and spirit and the scrap mentality his style of play really stands out. He clearly has great skills and seems a genuinely good bloke, but what frustrates most of us is that his output could be much much higher if he didn't loiter around contests or look so hesitant. It really does seem now that for him to play his best footy he's going to have to have a big change, which if it hasn't happened under Roos, could only now happen by changing clubs.

Nailed it, time for him to go.

I actually thought Trade for a long time, then I thought, if we could get him to run through fire or walk on hot coals in summer he may get out of that hesitation he has for running through the packs to open play. He just shits himself, hes like a rabbit in the headlights and it was more pronounce in the last game

As we improve as a team Watts value will also increase. He needs to improve and be physical in a footy sense all the time but he is still doing enough to contribute.. We have far worse players. Watts could possibly tear the competition apart at another club. I would rather keep him.

Roos may be open to a trade he has ensured Jacks currency is maintained best he can this year through comments and on match day.

Just in reply to my own post....yes no friends. Why doesnt he just snot someone and get 3 weeks fark he;d feel so much better for it.

Niggle into players, grab their nuts from time to time, pinch them, kick them when there on the ground, something that would just get him fired up. Get nasty Jack, your an MFC boy thru & thru and we need to look after you but help yourself for fark sake

UP IN LIGHTS by Whispering Jack

Those who watched the 2024 Marsh AFL National Championships closely this year would not be particularly surprised that Melbourne selected Victoria Country pair Harvey Langford and Xavier Lindsay on the first night of the AFL National Draft. The two left-footed midfielders are as different as chalk and cheese but they had similar impacts in their Coates Talent League teams and in the National Championships in 2024. Their interstate side was edged out at the very end of the tournament for tea
