The footage was interesting. He can take a mark which is always nice to see. He stands up in tackles and dishes well under pressure. His hand pass is good, his kick is long but average. Looked to be a fairly high trajectory which I don't like. It was hard to get an idea of his pace, but he seemed to have a pretty quick first few steps to get a little space.

I'd say concerns over pace and kicking, but a legitimate ball-winning mid. I'm not sure I'd rave about him the way some are, but I'd need to see more than that clip.

IF.... Frawley goes and Petracca is available at 2 we will take him. And trade the compensation for another elite midfielder.

IF.....Frawley stays we will trade 2 for an experienced elite mid.

I can't see any other option.

And if we can't get our hands on an elite mid by trade, we will draft Petracca and Brayshaw if they are available.

I would trade pick 3 for Sloan and trade pick 2 for Parker from the swans this would go along way to fix our midfield in one draft.

?.............

Also if Viney and co rated Salem above Kelly then I have my concerns with the recruiting department..

It was surely, in effect, Salam plus Tyson over Kelly, just to put it into true perspective. Do you honestly think that Kelly, in our side, would be burning them up this year?

Roos is on record Saying he wanted that trade precisely because it was two for one deal. He also said that Kelly would be a really good footballer. He called it a win win.

I remember watching the Sam Blease clip below thinking that it was the most impressive 3 minute highlight package (all from one game) that I'd seen. Fast, clean, finishing skills and a real zest for the defensive side of the game. I remember doing a very embarrassing little happy dance when we called his name soon after. I think he only got 13 possessions in the game against WA. Maybe that was the clue.

Moral of the story? I'm not sure. Something about highlight packages . . . . .

I remember being underwhelmed by Scully's highlights while everyone else seem to salivate.

2 for 2

How do I not have you on ignore already...

But he's right isn't he? Wasn't it actually picks 2 & 20 for Tyson & Salem? Whether they on traded that 2nd pick doesn't change what we traded. Very convenient people around here overlook that...... Mind you, I'm happy as with the deal, we got 2 class players that like more rough & tumble than what Kelly does, which is what we need!!

I reckon there is a massive chance we will trade pick 2 and the frawley compo

I hope not Sir Paul. I just feel it would be terrific for us to develop our own star, as much as anything to say that we can do it. We have done reasonably with Tyson but let's not be like Stkilda was when accepting Carlton's old players. I'm not saying avoid trading, but look to do it later in the draft.

I think we are, and he will be wearing number 1 next year.

But i agree, i would like to see the rebuild happen through the draft, Brayshaw and Petracca with the two picks, our program is heavily focused on development

Hogan, Petracca, Trengove, Toumpas, Salem, Brayshaw, Tyson, Stretch and co are a group that could take the club places if developed

Agree, I'm used to watching thrashings. Would just rather see them with hope of better to come.

i know but I think this is what roos will be looking at doing any think that would be market value for both Sloan and Parker

Pick 2 for swallow from Gold Coast would be a win for both clubs IMO he just won there best and fairest

How is that a win for the Suns?

Didn't we also get pick 53 in the deal that we used on Mitchie. Therefore it was a deal if 3 for 2 .

Melbourne - Dom Tyson, NDS 9 (Christian Salem) & NDS 57 (Jayden Hunt)
GWS - NDS 2 (Josh Kelly), NDS 22 (Darcy Gardiner) & NDS 72
(Pass)

would be amazing if Jayden Hunt became a player

Anyone see him play this season?

I saw him play once. He wasn't great, but there were a few flashes of awesome in there. When he gets in space his pace is blistering. He just needs to get a bit bigger so they can't just bully him out of it. Saw him do an amazing run down the wing and nail the pass to HF which led to a goal. Even if he doesn't play next year, I think we'll be keeping him on past his first contract.

  • PREGAME: Essendon

  • NON-MFC: Round 05

Gather Round is here, kicking off with a Thursday night blockbuster as Adelaide faces Geelong. The Crows will be out for redemption after a controversial loss last week. Saturday starts with the Magpies taking on the Swans. Collingwood will be eager to cement their spot in the top eight, while Sydney is hot on their heels. In the Barossa Valley, two rising sides go head-to-head in a fascinating battle to prove they're the real deal. Later, Carlton and West Coast face off at Adelaide Oval, both desperate to notch their first win of the season. The action then shifts to Norwood, where the undefeated Lions will aim to keep their streak alive against the Bulldogs. Sunday’s games begin in the Barossa with Richmond up against Fremantle. In Norwood, the Saints will be looking to take a scalp when they come up against the Giants. The round concludes with a fiery rematch of last year's semi-final, as the Hawks seek revenge for their narrow loss to Port Adelaide. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?

  • CASEY: Geelong

There was a time in the second quarter of the game at the Cattery on Friday afternoon when the Casey Demons threatened to take the game apart against the Cats. The Demons had been well on top early but were struggling to convert their ascendancy over the ground until Tom Fullarton’s burst of three goals in the space of eight minutes on the way to a five goal haul and his best game for the club since arriving from Brisbane at the end of 2023. He was leading, marking and otherwise giving his opponents a merry dance as Casey grabbed a three goal lead in the blink of an eye. Fullarton has now kicked ten goals in Casey’s three matches and, with Melbourne’s forward conversion woes, he is definitely in with a chance to get his first game with the club in next week’s Gather Round in Adelaide. Despite the tall forward’s efforts - he finished with 19 disposals and eight marks and had four hit outs as back up to Will Verrall in the second half - it wasn’t enough as Geelong reigned in the lead through persistent attacks and eventually clawed their way to the lead early in the last and held it till they achieved the end aim of victory.

  • REPORT: Geelong

I was disappointed to hear Goody say at his post match presser after the team’s 39 point defeat against Geelong that "we're getting high quality entry, just poor execution" because Melbourne’s problems extend far beyond that after its 0 - 4 start to the 2025 football season. There are clearly problems with poor execution, some of which were evident well before the current season and were in play when the Demons met the Cats in early May last year and beat them in a near top-of-the-table clash that saw both sides sitting comfortably in the top four after round eight. Since that game, the Demons’ performances have been positively Third World with only five wins in 19 games with a no longer majestic midfield and a dysfunctional forward line that has become too easy for opposing coaches to counter. This is an area of their game that is currently being played out as if they were all completely panic-stricken.

  • NON-MFC: Round 04

Round 4 kicks off with a blockbuster on Thursday night as traditional rivals Collingwood and Carlton clash at the MCG, with the Magpies looking to assert themselves as early-season contenders and the Blues seeking their first win of the season. Saturday opens with Gold Coast hosting Adelaide, a key test for the Suns as they aim to back up their big win last week, while the Crows will be looking to keep their perfect record intact. Reigning wooden spooners Richmond have the daunting task of facing reigning premiers Brisbane at the ‘G and the Lions will be eager to reaffirm their premiership credentials after a patchy start. Saturday night sees North Melbourne take on Sydney at Marvel Stadium, with the Swans looking to build on their first win of the season last week against a rebuilding Roos outfit. Sunday’s action begins with GWS hosting West Coast at ENGIE Stadium, a game that could get ugly very early for the visitors. Port Adelaide vs St Kilda at Adelaide Oval looms as a interesting clash, with both clubs form being very hard to read. The round wraps up with Fremantle taking on the Western Bulldogs at Optus Stadium in what could be a fierce contest between two sides with top-eight ambitions. Who are you tipping this week and what are the best results for the Demons besides us winning?
