I'd be shocked if Roos hadn't already talked with him. Perfect fit and almost exactly same situation as Cross was last year.

Plus the go home factor leading into his retirement, with very few other clubs showing much interest I'd guess.

We do, we do, & not only that, we need him, to help us shape the new culture.... We want it fashioned, and firmed, then forged solid. before he's finished.

And he may be able to help us into the finals for the first time in some years, in a meaningful way.

Tell RO'K our kids are in need of true leadership, we have just got some, recently, but we need more.

Been a true great player but he is to old to play the role he was so good at now.

We don't need another midfielder who lacks pace.

But if Roos has a job for him then so be it

1 year as a playing development coach sitting up forward? would bring experience, leadership and another insight into the swans culture, players would learn a lot about training standards, having a clean lifestyle and what it takes to become a hard work based star, I have never thought of O'keefe as super talented but works as hard as anyone.

He's been a great player & if he was 30 ir 31 I'd say maybe get him in but at 34 I'd have to say no.

He might be a good 'bridge' forward while we await Salem and JKH to be able to play more. I don't think we have got to 'critical mass experienced players' yet so I am open to this.

Get some talented kids, surround them with professionals, try and get/keep some stars - that's my list management philosophy in a sentence.

Then just hire him as a coach...

The coach is different to your mates onfield, as one of your peers risking life & limb out there in battle. We need courageous sergeants leading from their actions. Like Crossy's doing, & Dawsey, speaking out & giving examples, lifting standards so they're all not wasting each others time going thur motions.

Jones is a shy humble hardworker who is learning leadership from these very guys. We need to bring in more of them, & I would consider Ball as well, in some form.

The young players have to learn that they have to work harder, to jump over these great footballers, to get into the jumper of their own. Easy jumpers has meant a lowering of standards, instead of them raising the bar.

This is why we end up with Hollywood Boulevard carp. & 2 classes within one club. lazy talents, & unsung hardworkers. this doesn't work.

RO'K would cost us virtually nothing but a list spot, increases depth a lot on his own, not to mention his maturity & experiences, & professionalism he'd teach.

Cross is 31 and on year to year contracts. No only that, he was still playing when we got him from the Doggies.
ROK has barely cracked a game this year and has been playing in the NEAFL which is awful quality. To put the quality of that league in perspective, Tom Mitchell who also can't crack a game at the Swans, had a 64 disposal game in the NEAFL. 64 disposals. Shows how poor the quality is if any player can reach a total like that.

ROK has been a fantastic player, but at 34 and struggling, don't think he is worth it to us to hold a kid like Salem or JKH out of the side, and he surely wouldn't sign on if he knew he'd be playing at Casey.

That would be his primary role, he wouldn't be able to offer heaps on field, even playing at Casey he would offer a lot to the development of Salem and co, personally I think he could still play some games in the seniors for us as a forward

He is a fair bit better than Byrnes though, had 35 touches on he weekend, been getting 30 plus most weeks

I completely understand the concerns regarding his age, but I would think just the players actually seeing him train and stuff would be how to get the most value from him, from our point of view.

We have coaches who now inspire. No need to clog up the list with players who can no longer play.

thats just it, he wouldn't hold them out of the side, if he plays well enough to demand the Red&Blue jumper in his number. if they play to a strong enough level, then some player will make way for them.

raising the standards doesn't destroy kids, it makes them jump higher.

Can you imagine as a young developing player looking up and seeing Ryan O'Keefe running around, giving bumtaps for a good tackle or hard running. Counts for a lot in my mind.

But he doesn't play Crossy's role.

The game will be faster in 2015 & ROK will be further off the pace.

We have to move forward not just hang on.

ROK could easily fit onto our list, if he is good enough to make his way into our best 22 is another thing entirely, but if the body is sound, he might add significant value to the club in terms of training standards, assisting younger players on the list playing down at Casey etc.

He is said to be a consumate professional in regards to preparation etc similar to Crossy, and people are moaning cos he can't get a gig in the Sydney best 22? Seriously? I doubt if 5 of our players would get a spot in the best 22 at Sydney.

I don't think age is an issue, if the body is sound, the player and club is willing, and he can play a role then I don't think it's such a stupid call for 1 year contract.
