On The Road: Round 18: Power v Dees @ Adelaide Oval: Who else is making the trip?

At some point in the 90s I swore I would not watch another AFL game in Adelaide until they built a new stadium. They built it. So I will come. And walk out to the ground instead of catching a cab and watching the meter tick over in the inevitable Footy Park traffic jam. In retrospect the Adelaide game might have been more enjoyable but we are unbeaten at the NEW Adelaide Oval!

Of course all footy trips need an itinerary

Friday Night:

Norwood v South Adelaide at Coopers Stadium.

Saturday:

At the innovative time of 2:10pm West Adelaide v Sturt @ City Mazda Stadium

Saturday Night

In the old days what happened on a Saturday Night of a footy trip stayed on the road. Now I'll probably fall asleep in my hotel room watching the footy.

Sunday

Mighty Dees wreak revenge on Power for Alice!

If you want to sit with fellow Dees fans you must order your ticket through the club by 5pm today/tomorrow (Thursday 12 June @ 5pm).

And remember. Flights to Adelaide are relatively cheap.

Well the Paul Roos coached Melbourne has never lost at Adelaide Oval, so it'd be a huge upset if Port were able to beat us!

Yeah I expect Port to be gallant and valiant, but we'll probably have a bit too much class for the young Power kids.

Demoniac, be sure to go to the Adelaide casino for your footy trip.

I have a Hawthorn supporter friend who travelled to Adelaide a couple of weeks ago to watch the game. She stayed at the Sebel Playford Hotel which is only a 10 minute walk to the ground and the Hawthorn team was staying there so she was rapt. (she is not some young teenage groupie either!). She said it was a great place to stay. The AFL have some deal with this group of hotels for the interstate players.

I was in Adelaide last year wandering around cemeteries when the Tour De France and Ashes were on so headed to the Casino Sports Bar. Brought back memories of Olympic Park Dogs on a Monday night!

My paternal GrandFather was born and bred in Gawler so I really should head out to Central Districts on the Saturday but its a long trip.

I'm awaiting details from my travel agents who are the best two friends a bloke could have.

There was a group of us used to go every week we could and some of us made an epic road trip to Adelaide years ago for a weekend of sheer enjoyment even though we lost the game. We met the team in the casino and felt like we were a real part of the club more than supporters. We still talk about that experience

I've migrated to the country and dont get out much anymore but the others still get to as many matches as they can. The guys arranged a trip to the Gold Coast and it was as good as a two weeks break and cost less than a trip to the psychiatrist. It was fantastic and I am in their debt for the pleasure they provided.

Now they have organised the return to Adelaide and while we are older and wiser I am looking forward to another action packed weekend of pure enjoyment. To have a team that is competitive is fantastic and a win would be a bonus. If we lose it wont be because of lack of support from us.

West Adelaide V Sturt would be an interesting prelude but Ive got a mate over there who is into the Ammos and we may squeeze some action from him after a lazy game of golf. Its all very much up in the air BUt a good time is assured

The wife and I went across for the Crows games Round 7. We stayed on North Terrace in the Mercure which is a short walk to the ground. Adelaide oval is fantasic well worth the trip. The South Aussies were very welcoming and we attended the SA Demons prematch function which was good. Every Crows supporter we talked to were dirty on Bernie being traded.

Fantastic trip with the win beng the cherry on top.

Hope the Dees make it 2 from 2 for you.

HEAVEN OR HELL by The Oracle

Clashes between Melbourne and St Kilda are often described as battles between the forces of heaven and hell. However, based on recent performances, it’s hard to get excited about the forthcoming match between these two sides. It would be fair to say that, at the moment, both of these teams are in the doldrums. The Demons have become the competition’s slow starters while the Saints are not only slow to begin, they’re not doing much of a job finishing off their games either. About the only th

    THE BLOW by Whispering Jack

Narrm’s finals prospects took a crushing blow after the team’s insipid performance at Optus Stadium against a confident Waaljit Marawar in the first of its Doug Nicholls Round outings for 2024.  I use the description “crushing blow” advisedly because, although the season is not yet at it’s halfway mark, the Demons have now failed abysmally in two of their games against teams currently occupying bottom eight places on the ladder.  The manner in which these losing games were played out w

HALF FULL by KC from Casey

It was a case of the Casey Demons going into a game with a glass half full in their match up against the Brisbane Lions at Casey Fields on Saturday. As the list of injured and unavailable AFL and VFL listed players continues to grow and with Melbourne taking all three emergencies to Perth for the weekend on a “just in case” basis, its little brother was always destined to struggle. Casey was left with only eight AFL listed players from who to select their team but only two - an out-of-form

GAMEDAY: Rd 10 vs West Coast

It's Game Day and the Demons have returned to the site of their drought breaking Premiership to take on the West Coast Eagles in what could very well be a danger game for Narrm at Optus Stadium. A win and a percentage boost will keep the Dees in top four contention whilst a loss will cast doubt on the Dees flag credentials and bring them back to the pack fighting for a spot in the 8 as we fast approach the halfway point of the season.

    WARNING by William from Waalitj

As a long term resident of Waalitj Marawar, I am moved to warn my fellow Narrm fans that a  danger game awaits. The locals are no longer the easybeats who stumbled, fumbled and bumbled their way to the good fortune of gathering the number one draft pick and a generational player in Harley Reid last year. They are definitely better than they were then.   Young Harley has already proven his worth with some stellar performances for a first year kid playing among men. He’s taken hangers, k
