I love Chris Dawes

Quite a few times on Sunday Dawes and Frawley got in each other's way. That's to be expected when they're not used to playing together at the same end of the ground. And it's a practical example of why teams take a while to gel. If Frawley stays forward (and I hope he does), he and Dawes will get a better understanding and there will be fewer instances of each getting in the other's way.

And for what it's worth I'd rather they got in each other's way rather than neither being anywhere near the ball.

I agree, I would rather have two lead to the right place than no one.

yep, love dawes.
his effort is great, his presence is great.

God i hope he can stay healthy, he can be a big part of dragging this club up the ladder.

the club has definitely made some good leadership decisions bringing in cross and dawes. can't knock their endeavour.

Imagine if we had Clark as well... I now can see we would easily jump up a level.

But If wishes were horses beggars would ride.

Well the leadership group is basically down to 4 with Clark out and Trengove done for the season. Frawley could well be gone by next year so I'd expect a very different looking group of 6 next year.

Grimes needs to step up his game, because I could name 2 or 3 others I'd rather be captains on the field than him.

He looks like a completely different player from how I thought he played at Collingwood. Either I'm much mistaken or he wasn't able to play like this due to the Collingwood style of game at the time he was there. I don't recall him having the agility he has shown. OK, he's not Cyril Rioli, but I always thought he was a straight line player unable to kick around his body. he looks like a genuine CHF.

In his later time at Collingwood they were playing him as the second ruck as well as forward. It seriously messed him up, to put it simply. Part of his motivation for coming to Melbourne was the promise of being a true forward again - perhaps ironically, there were concerns that the ill-suited mixed role was giving his body a very rough time.

Pretty sure he wasn't in the leadership group this year because he just wanted to focus on being on the park. I too am rapt with his grunt, hard work, presence, and straight talking. He does have a tendency to drop some marks that he should take and make a few errors now and again, I know Pies supporters used to get frustrated with him as a result....I just hope that we all recognise that he has some limitations and don't start tearing him down in a few weeks time if he's not clunking 10 marks and kicking 4 every week! We are a much better and tougher side with him in it and that's the main thing.

I think he was better when he was running at the ball.

He tired in the last half and kept positioning himself behind his opponent, wanting it to be bombed over the top, rather than leading hard towards the corridor.

That should improve as he gains fitness.

    CROSSROADS by The Oracle

Melbourne stands at the crossroads.  Sunday’s game against the West Coast Eagles who have not met the Demons at the MCG in more than ten years, is a make or break for the club’s finals aspirations.  That proposition is self-evident since every other team the club will be opposed to over the next eight weeks of footy is a prospective 2024 finalist. To add to this perspective is the fact that while the Demons are now in twelfth position on the AFL table, they are only a game and a half b

    DELUGE by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons overcame their inaccuracy and the wet inhospitable conditions to overrun the lowly Northern Bullants at Genis Steel Oval in Cramer Street, Preston on Saturday. It was an eerie feeling entering the ground that in the past hosted many VFA/VFL greats of the past including the legendary Roy Cazaly. The cold and drizzly rain and the sparse crowd were enough to make one want to escape to the nearby Preston Market and hang out there for the afternoon. In the event, the fans

    INSANITY by Whispering Jack

Somehow, the Melbourne Football Club managed it twice in the course of a week. Coach Simon Goodwin admitted it in his press conference after the loss against the Brisbane Lions in a game where his team held a four goal lead in the third term:   "In reality we went a bit safe. Big occasion, a lot of young players playing. We probably just went into our shell a bit. "There's a bit to unpack in that last quarter … whether we go into our shells a bit late in the game."   Well

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi
