Gipsy Danger 1,067 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 No he wasn't. Langdon has been solid in all 7 games. JKH has slowly built something, week by week. Exactly how often does a kid have a 25possession 1 goal game and someone else still plays better... stiff 1 Quote
nutbean 8,838 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 What benefit is there for Melbourne? Not that you don't want pay someone their worth but the benefit to Melbourne if he signed a two year extension would be that it wouldn't be an expensive exercise. If the footy department believe he has got what it takes to develop into a really good footballer, extend the contract whilst his price is low. I reckon it is a risk after 6 games ( even though he has shown plenty) but an acceptable risk. Quote
Machsy 2,858 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Will be very interesting to see what position JKH plays over his career, a player with class and smarts like that could play in just about any position. Will be a great ruckman. 5 Quote

stevethemanjordan 6,952 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 He reminds me of Brent Stanton, minus the clangers of course. Wins the footy, can link up, knows where to run. Stanton?! Really? Can't say I see that. I'd have to go with Christensen for Geelong. Very similar game style. 4 Quote

Has good speed and wins alot of the ball which is something I thought JKH couldnt do so he has surprised me there.A touch of class this kid. Quote
rpfc 29,025 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 Stanton?! Really? Can't say I see that. I'd have to go with Christensen for Geelong. Very similar game style. I wanted to get away from the forward-midfielder comparison to a pure midfielder comparison. He finds the footy and links up well. Stanton does the same (from time to time), he is neat but not explosive. He is a good player Stanton. JKH can punch through this ceiling but he has already shown me that this is what he can get to on exposed form. Quote

Christensen was pretty much a full time midfielder before he got injured. Quote

Similar size-wise and athletically, but JKH seems to have much better hands, and more than anything I'm impressed with his footy IQ at such an early stage of his career. He plays the game intuitively, and makes very smart decisions. His hands are always set to take the first option, but he's quick to adapt to what is given to him. Quote

I think, although he may not be recognised as one, Christensen is 100% a pure line-breaking midfielder. He doesn't spend a lot of time crumbing up forward, unless he follows the ball down there from the midfield. Quote
jabberwocky 2,301 Posted May 5, 2014 Posted May 5, 2014 (edited) Steering away from comparison as they generally don't turn out too well, he is well above average in a few areas and I have been saying since the start of the season that he looks like a mid. His ability to take the ball at speed. His lateral movement and ability to instantaneously change direction. His ability to size up the short option or handpass instantly. Whilst he is not built the same, Rioli is a bloke with these attributes (but I am not comparing them). Edited May 6, 2014 by jabberwocky 1 Quote

Christensen has a damn clean pair of mitts on him.. He's got unbelievable touch! We'll all see it differently but JKH's style and attributes resemble those of Christensen's in my eyes. Almost identical. Quote
rpfc 29,025 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Yeah, if we want to move away from comparisons - I like that he is neat, takes the game on and tries to not waste a possession. He's composed. He doesn't have great speed, but he does know where the footy will be. That's the toughest skill to learn for a mid. 1 Quote
Bingo 305 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Not fast...but evasive. Great agility and side step. Was a nice game from him on the weekend. Quote

When you watch him play at AFL it makes you wonder why he was taken so late. Surely that evasiveness and quick thinking was evident last year? Quote
Deeoldfart 8,201 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Most of all he plays like JKH, and he wears our colours. Forget the comparisons, under Roosy's guidance he has the attributes to become a 'benchmark' player of our very own. 1 Quote
Vagg 2,449 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 Apparently he mentioned at training this morning that he'd love to nail down the wing spot. Noticed on Saturday he seemed to do a few nice things down back as well as forward, so the wing seems like it would be a good spot for him. He's certainly a joy to watch in action. Some of his moves are majestic! Quote
Young Dee 1,303 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I see a bit of Wayne Carey about him... The way he leads and presents with that physical presence is refreshing Maybe if you ignore the slight difference in size..... Wayne Carey: Height: 1.92 m Weight: 97 kg JKH: Height: 1.73 m Weight: 68 kg Quote
Gorgoroth 13,220 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I loved how Dunstall gave Bail a little clip for not having poise the two mins later similar situation and JKH did exactly what Dunstall had just spoken about. The kid can play. 1 Quote

On FC last night they were discussing how he'd done well, but as a top 20 pick. Quote

His lack of size (173cm, 68kg) would have thrown the recruiters off, I think. What we've learnt from JKH so far is that there's no substitute in this game for class. IMO, it won't be long before these types start getting drafted in the first round again. Quote

Which compares with Boomer Harvey's 167cm, 75kg...and 369 games (and counting). If anyone thinks size was a factor they must have forgotten that one of the great appeals of AFL is that all shapes and sizes can get a game as long as they've got the skills. (Admittedly, if you're small, you must be fast - either by foot or in mind). Quote
deeflog 679 Posted May 6, 2014 Posted May 6, 2014 I'm not a huge fan of comparisons but I see a lot of bradley hill when watching jkh Quote
