This week Port Adelaide has passed 50,000 members. They've come a long way since 2010 when they had 29,000 & especially after only a couple of years ago they were in crisis.

Just goes to show that things can turn around quickly and it's an outstanding effort by the club. Good on them and we do have some hope with the right people in the right places.

That's what happens when a team starts to win and believe in themselves.

Hopefully it will happen but it's taking a tad longer than I thought tbh if at all.

We definitely have the off field foundations set, Paul Roos is no clown, 356 games & a premiership coach, it won't take him long to sweep the broom on some players, things will turn around quickly after that I'm sure. Members will come out of the cupboard when this happens.

Is that 50,000 full adult members or 20,000 adult, 10,000 junior, 10,000 pets, 5,000 3game memberships and 5,000 Martian memberships? Just sayin.....

But it highlighted exactly how far behind we are.

Port converted a lot of very young supporters in the 4 years leading up to their 2004 premiership, where they won 16 games minimum in 4 years straight. But at that stage, those very 10 year olds had no disposable income and were incapable of purchasing their own memberships.

Those same kids are now in their early 20s and now that their form has improved out of sight are jumping on board at an exponential rate.

We need to have considerable success and then sustain it for a bloody long time, or at least have a second period of success some years later.

Port has developed itself into a power side. Crows fans are dropping off.

Why? Because Port play powerful, tough and committed football. They had a shocking list two years ago but that same list that won 8 games in two years made the finals last year and made it to the second week.

If only the Melbourne players believed in themselves as much as the fans do. There just isn't the commitment there.

an absolute genius leading their fitness department has helped, but their development of guys like Wingard and Wines to get them as good as they are so quickly is what's the most impressive.

Must admit I laughed when he was appointed but gee what a difference Kochie has made to that club since taking the reins.

We are currently sitting on 32324 which would be considerably less if not for our tireless band of membership volunteers.

MFC have thousands of lapsed members who will return once we have a period of sustained success similar to the late eighties, early and late nineties.

Easier said than done obviously however we must retain faith in the Jackson/Roos process.

Theres one reason why we arent making the magical 40k membership....we keep losing...

Winning results will bring the people...not just being competitive....We must start winning or its going to end up the same every year sitting on 34k or so tops..

We all know theres alot of Demons fans...but they want winning results and have had enough of late with insipid efforts..I dont blame them.

I do have faith in Roosy & PJ though I agree Gsmith12.
