Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

The last couple of days whilst waiting trade/FA news and reading all the posts here about who we will/should pick up with the draft it got me thinking as to how we have gone in previous years. Im not talking about the superstars we didn’t pick and the duds we did pick. I was thinking along the lines of which draft did we get the most bang for our buck. Which draft did we secure players who paid the MFC back in games played. Yeah we lost a few players along the way and gained a few, but if we look at the raw figures of drafted players v games played which year do you think we really struggled. I went back to 2000 and came up with the following.

2000

100 MFC Games at 10 per Player Drafted

AFL ave 41 games per player drafted

2001

301 MFC Games at 38 per player drafted

AFL ave 62 games per player drafted

2002

371 MFC games at 31 per player drafted

AFL ave 58 games per player drafted

2003

494 MFC games at 62 per player drafted

AFL ave 48 games per player drafted

2004

302 MFC games at 60 per player drafted

AFL ave 50 games per player drafted

2005

290 MFC games at 36 per player drafted

AFL ave 47 games per player drafted

2006

275 MFC Games at 55 per player drafted

AFL ave 41 games per player drafted

2007

307 MFC games at 31 per player drafted

AFL ave 32 games per player drafted

2008

377 MFC games at 38 per player drafted

AFL ave 30 games per player drafted

2009

235 MFC games at 28 per player drafted

AFL ave 22 games per player drafted

2010

145 MFC games at 14 per player drafted

AFL ave 15 games per player drafted

2011

47 MFC games at 7 per player drafted

AFL ave 8 games per player drafted

2012

92 MFC games at 10 per player drafted

AFL ave 5 games per player drafted

I do have a more detailed breakdown for each year but I didn’t want to put them all up here at the start as the post would be massive.

And yes I don’t have a life and im pretty bored at the moment.

A big factor in that analysis is our relative draft positions across those years - some years we had a lot of early picks and some we didn't, it's nice data but it's meaningless without that factored in.

to be honest, it's rather meaningless regardless. It doesn't matter who you draft, you need 484 games per year. Even if the players are crap someone had to get the games.

We have done this before. I have myself analysed why we are where we are.

Salary cap breaches hurt a decade after they were found.

Bad drafting hurts 6 years after the fact.

Anyone judging drafts as they happen or even a year or two later are wasting their time, and yours.

This has all been discussed before. The MFC cant draft/develop for sh**. Time to look forward not into the past. We can review as much as we like, its not going to change anything. What the club needs to do now is put serious (and I mean serious) work into the recruitment and development areas of the club (at both VFL and AFL). Whatever financial cost it requires to have this done correctly. I have said it before, if we incorrectly draft or not develop players, we have no chance of being competitive and therefor the club will again follow the path to its demise. Learn from the past, look to the future!

UNDER THE PUMP by KC from Casey

The Casey Demons have been left languishing near the bottom of the VFL table after suffering a 32-point defeat at the hands of stand alone club Williamstown at Casey Fields on Sunday. The Demons suffered a major setback before the game even started when AFL listed players Ben Brown, Marty Hore and Josh Schache were withdrawn from the selected side. Only Schache was confirmed as an injury replacement, the other two held over as possible injury replacements for Melbourne’s Thursday night fixt

THE MEANING OF FOOTY by Whispering Jack

Throughout history various philosophers have grappled with the meaning of life. Aristotle, Aquinas, Kant, Nietzsche, Schopenhauer and a multitude of authors of diverse religious texts all tried. As society became more complex, the question became attached to specific endeavours in life even including sporting pursuits where such questions arose among our game’s commentariat as, “what is the meaning of football”? Melbourne coach Simon Goodwin must be tired of dealing with such a dilemma but,

LEADERS OF THE PACK by The Oracle

I was asked to write a preview of this week’s Round 8 match between Melbourne and Geelong. The two clubs have a history that goes right back to the time when the game was starting to become an organised sport but it’s the present that makes the task of previewing this contest so interesting. Both clubs recently reached the pinnacle of the competition winning premiership flags in 2021 and 2022 respectively, but before the start of this season, many good judges felt their time had passed - n
