Just looking for clarification re drafting rules.

I'm pretty sure all clubs need to draft three players at the national draft, but do you need to use the selections or make at least the changes to your list?

Ie. In the event that we trade pick 2, 20 and 38 for players, is that sufficient, or do we need to physically draft 3 players?

Do late round rookie upgrades count as drafting?

3 draft changes - in ND and PSD

Trades don't count

Rookie upgrades do count

As WJ suggested Hogan upgrade may also count

in short...you need 3 new names on your senior list..Doesnt matter how or why they get there. They can come fro your supllemental lists or anywhere.

basically at least 3 out 3 in

I think the question is moot; we will draft more than three players no matter what we do in trade time.

What is clear that the AFL, as per their normal procedure, did not clarify whether or not the former-17YO's counted towards the minimum three layers you must bring in. As Hogan and Martin are the last of these for the forseeable future, they will just keep us all wondering ...

Forgive my ignorance. What is the rationale for at least 3 compulsory changes? Seems arbitrary to me.

The reason is simply to force change every year so the PFA can say - 'we brought this many kids into the system, and this many players found new homes, blah blah.' It's completely arbitrary.

And its all about Primary list deletions - 3. Hogan, Clisby, and Magner coming onto the list could mean we don't go to the draft at all.

Of course, we won't do that though...

its to create a market for all the kiddies to rise into and all the hullaballoo that entails.

Basically forcing out 3 players creates the vacuum for the draft !!

Well I'd be very annoyed if my club felt that it had a 'perfect' list and had to dump 3 players and take pot luck on draft pick replacements. Only saving grace is that it probably would happen extremely rarely. If so, most clubs will turn over 3 or more anyway, so why enforce it. AFL seems to specialise in silly rules.

Amen to that Sue.

Although in a perfect situation a club could delist three players and pick them up again in the rookie draft as well as three players from the National Draft.

There were a number of Demonland Trackwatchers at Gosch's Paddock this morning to bring you their observations from Preseason Training. KEV MARTIN'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS They were going hard at each other. The sims were in two 15 minute blocks. The second block finished a few minutes early, they gathered and had another 7 minutes at it. I think they were asked to compete, as they would play against an opposition. There was plenty of niggle, between some of them. At the end o

Better late than never … and quite frankly, there’s very little to report other than that training took place at Casey Fields this morning, that Tracc was there nursing his rib injury and that some photographs are on the club’s social media including this one of Clarrie in Raging Bull stance that gives rise for confidence. The other news is that the club has a new train on player in 185cm Dandenong Stingrays midfielder Noah Hibbins-Hargreaves (love the hyphenated name which is just so fitti

Welcome back to Demonland for those like me who have been on vacation. I’m posting this with some trepidation because of a certain amount of uncertainty surrounding the return of preseason training in 2025 after a flurry of weddings including those of our coach, one of our superstar players and a former premiership champion player and bloke, not to mention the recent mysterious incident that occurred on the Mornington Peninsula.  I believe that the team reassembles this morning at Casey Fie

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to
