Discussion on recent allegations about the use of illicit drugs in football is forbidden
  • IMPORTANT: PLEASE READ BEFORE POSTING

Posting unsubstantiated rumours on this website is strictly forbidden.

Demonland has made the difficult decision to not permit this platform to be used to discuss & debate the off-field issues relating to the Melbourne Football Club including matters currently being litigated between the Club & former Board members, board elections, the issue of illicit drugs in footy, the culture at the club & the personal issues & allegations against some of our players & officials ...

We do not take these issues & this decision lightly & of course we believe that these serious matters affecting the club we love & are so passionate about are worthy of discussion & debate & I wish we could provide a place where these matters can be discussed in a civil & respectful manner.

However these discussions unfortunately invariably devolve into areas that may be defamatory, libelous, spread unsubstantiated rumours & can effect the mental health of those involved. Even discussion & debate of known facts or media reports can lead to finger pointing, blame & personal attacks.

The repercussion is that these discussions can open this website, it’s owners & it’s users to legal action & may result in this website being forced to shutdown.

Our moderating team are all volunteers & cannot moderate the forum 24/7 & as a consequence problematic content that contravenes our rules & standards may go unnoticed for some time before it can be removed.

We reserve the right to delete posts that offend against our above policy & indeed, to ban posters who are repeat offenders or who breach our code of conduct.

WE HAVE BUILT A FANTASTIC ONLINE COMMUNITY AT DEMONLAND OVER THE PAST 23 YEARS & WE WOULD LIKE TO CONTINUE TO BE ABLE TO DISCUSS THE CLUB WE LOVE & ARE SO PASSIONATE ABOUT.

Thank you for your continued support & understanding. Go Dees.

Maybe Dew could talk to Pedo about the importance of preparing your body to be an elite footballer.

I think he will be a Demon very soon. The official site does not post articles like this unless it is a done deal. They never post rumours. Expect an announcement soon.

The Dustin Martin article was us announcing the fact that we have contacted Martin's management (http://www.melbournefc.com.au/news/2013-09-16/dees-wait-on-martin-management). We were telling our supporters that we were keen if he was keen.

I think the Dew article is telling us is that Dew is the one that we want. I will admit that that does not mean he will necessarily come due to his contract with Sydney but I believe that the Dees are saying that he is definitely the one we want for the position.

I wanted us to recruit Dew as a player just before he retired prematurely.

then a couple of years later argued the toss with a Hawks mate, about his hawks team recruiting Dew... he wouldn't hear it & tried to tell me Clarko was useless... I told him he has rocks in his head.

later that year they won the flag - 2008. Dew a catalyst. as was clarko of course.

needless to say my hawk mate is a bit happier these days about clarko & dew.

Im not so sure they are so brilliantly run anymore. Time will tell but I think some wheels re wobbling.

this IMO, is why Roos got out.

I wonder if he sees his great work being unwound. his baby being 'interfered with'.

none are so blind, than those who just won't see.

I don't think you understand how the AFL and clubs' websites work...

This means nothing.

*FYI, Larkin or Burgan would get an email from the journalist that wrote the article, advising them of its existence on the AFL website so they can link it to the club website. Often they will anyway, but it gets lost amongst all the club-specific articles.

At this time of year with precious little content that is club specific, it sticks out like dogs balls, and the club would immediately upload it, since it keeps their "brand" in the minds of its "customers", when the opportunities for that are thin.

Maybe not the why of his getting out but possibly oiled the way sts.

He may see us as an opportunity to create ROOS-world ver 2.0 ( improved )

yep, also his kids are growing, Uni, & Sydney has its dangers as well.

Melbourne has its attractions as does the AFL. PR is doing a similar trail to Barass.

It's not a rumour - all they said was that they where willing to wait for Dew to finish his contract.

I see it 2 ways:

1. they are willing to wait for his contract to end

2. they are trying to force Sydney hand (let him go because they know he wants/is going to leave)

From the sounds of it, Spud still reckons there is a precedent to allow Dew to come to us if we want him as our senior assistant (Leon Cameron @ GWS).

Sounded like the coaching association a week or so back was stating that because both roles are still assistant roles then the Swans are well in their rights to keep him, but now they seem to have changed their tune and are now saying they acknowledge the senior assistant position is a promotion.

Would you be happy to wait for Dew or should we get someone who is available straight away?

This has been my concern from day one of the Roos announcement. The appointment i love. However, the public (and behind scenes) announcement that we are on a mission to appoint a successor from the get go is flawed IMO.

It paints everyone into a corner and on a path that this "must" happen asap. Whereas a better option, i would have thought, was to have Roos at least "achieve" a pass mark on a short term set target. eg., say something like.... "finish somewhere between 9th to 12th by end of year 2". Once this is acheived (with maybe other benchmarks linked to some sort of target like this) you then move on to the successor phase beginning year 3 onwards and a slow withdrawal of Roos as head coach with his replacement taking over once Roos & Co. are happy that all is well. The new man taking over in say year 4 or 5.

IMO it's a massive ask for Roos, Jackson & Co. just to get the club to being a consistently competitive unit, week in and week out within a few years, let alone trying to find and put in place a number of candidate/assistants from day one, start grooming them, then choosing and setting a preferred one on a path to replace Roos ASAP. If Roos were coming into a reasonable AFL club set up/culture i would say no probs. But the MFC has been a galaxy away from anything resembling a 'reasonable' footy club for at least 3 years now. And as we can see already, the window for the best possible option may open up in 6, 12 or 18 months. In addition, if the club shows some significant improvement, the list of potential candidates and their enthusiasm to join us, may well grow from it's present state. With the existing P.J. strategy, it would seem we are almost locked into a 'selection phase' now with whatever might be available in the next few months only. I could be off the mark. P.J. and Roos might be quite flexible on this and might be in no hurry whatsoever. I hope so.

Don't get me wrong, i'm 100% behind the Roos appointment and have already re-joined/increased $ spend on membership, Something i've never done so early pre-season. Hec, I'm so wrapped I've even signed son myself and son up in the Demon Army for the first time. It's just that i believe we can't afford any distractions from the main game in the first few years of his coaching tenure. And that main game, as i'm sure most would agree, is to right what was a seriously listing MFC ship. 100% of everyone's efforts will be needed just to do so. IMHO the successor plan is a good 'medium term' idea, but a premature distraction early on in the Roos tenure.

Get some respect back into the Club first. Worry about the new guy (and who's available/willing/appropriate) sometime after that's been acheived.

Why not just hire Dew and use our President and leading employment lawyer Bartlett to defend him in Sydney's case against him.

The President wanted the club to be ruthless, here's his chance.

I think you are mixing up ruthlessness with stupidness.

Find the loophole in the system and then act. We must be looking into this "promotion" loop hole.

Is a promotion purely acting position or does it also relate to salary? If we have to make up a new coach role/name to get him then do that (e.g. "Successor candidate")

If he's the best man then let's wait. We're not about to challenge. Let's find a decade-long coach once Roos shuffles off.

I read it and thought ``smart Melbourne.'' Not something I've thought much in recent years.

    DISCO INFERNO by Whispering Jack

Two weeks ago, when the curtain came down on Melbourne’s game against the Brisbane Lions, the team trudged off the MCG looking tired and despondent at the end of a tough run of games played in quick succession. In the days that followed, the fans wanted answers about their team’s lamentable performance that night and foremost among their concerns was whether the loss was a one off result of fatigue or was it due to other factor(s) of far greater consequence.  As it turns out, the answer to

TIGERS PUNT CASEY by KC from Casey

The afternoon atmosphere at the Swinburne Centre was somewhat surreal as the game between Richmond VFL and the Casey Demons unfolded on what was really a normal work day for most Melburnians. The Yarra Park precinct marched to the rhythm of city life, the trains rolled by, pedestrians walked by with their dogs and the traffic on Punt Road and Brunton Avenue swirled past while inside the arena, a football battle ensued. And what a battle it was? The Tigers came in with a record of two wins f

It's Game Day and the Demons once again open the round of football with their annual clash against Richmond on ANZAC Eve. The Tigers, coached by former Dees champion and Premiership assistant coach Adem Yze have a plethora of stars missing due to injury but beware the wounded Tiger. The Dees will have to be switched on tonight. A win will keep them in the hunt for the Top 4 whilst a loss could see them fall out of the 8 for the first time since 2020.

There’s a touch of irony in the fact that Adem Yze played his first game for Melbourne in Round 13, 1995 against the club he now coaches. For that game, he wore the number 44 guernsey and got six touches in a game the team won by 11 points.  The man whose first name was often misspelled, soon changed to the number 13 and it turned out lucky for him. He became a highly revered Demon with a record of 271 games during which his presence was acknowledged by the fans with the chant of “Oozee” wh
