Nick Smith

Nick Smith really impresses me at the Swans.

It seems to me he's not really given the kudos , responsibility or promotion he deserves at Sydney.

He has a defensive role seemingly in the full back line, where he always seems to do a good job.

I think he shows the strength, skill and discipline to be a midfielder. Any chance Roos could tempt him across?

Gee I thought you were referring to 4to6 who played for us and last heard of playing for Balwyn in the EFL!

Humble kid. Anyone that knew him at SKevs (Year 7) and Scotch would say he hasn't changed a bit. I'm sure he'd be thinking about returning home now.

I reckon he is the Lleyton Hewitt of the AFL. He aint blessed with talent, but how he can blanket your quick small forwards amazes me year after year. His kicking hits targets, and he would lead the Swans for shepherds/blocks I reckon.

Solid character and has 4 years left in him.

Roos would know if he had what it took to play on-ball. I don't think Swans have ever contemplated using him there. Whether that is because he is so good as a defensive small, or whether he aint got the tank etc....not many know, including most of us.

Are there any readers out there who agree with my suggestion that Nick Smith(no.40 for Sydney),could become an inside midfielder? He's not overtly fast, but he's strong ,creative, and has excellent disposal skills.

He certainly thinks he can:

I guess Roos would be well aware of Smith's potential(or lack thereof).

Does anyone know his contract status?

Ï suppose Sydney would also be well aware of his potential as an inside midfielder, but they never seem to take him out of defence.

ps "Demoneyes..".....sorry to wake you, please don't waste your valuable time reading this.

The word is that the Swans are considering doing a deal with a Melbourne-based club that has a high draft pick, possibly St Kilda or Melbourne - clubs with links to the Swans.

A deal involving a package of players, including at least two premiership heroes, is the suggestion. It is no secret that Nick Smith has strong roots in Melbourne and the pull home always lingers. Smith has been touted as a future captain of the Swans and he is certainly a backline general.

However, the Swans may be willing to cut their losses if the reward is high.

Small defender it says on Swans website, not our most pressing need at all - if he was packaged with Parker or someone I'd go for it but I don't really see his value at this stage. We need midfielders goddamit!!!

Luke Parker and Nick Smith, that is something that would add to our list and I would be happy with giving up pick 2 for these two plus Sydney's second round pick. We don't have a strong defensive small defender adding Nick Smith to our backline would be a good thing

    UNBACKABLE by The Oracle

They’re billing the Brisbane Lions as a sleeping giant — the best team outside the top eight —and based on their form this month they’re a definite contender for September AFL action. Which is not exactly the best of news if you happen to be Melbourne, the visiting team this week up at the Gabba.  Even though they are placed ahead of their opponent on the AFL table, and they managed to stave off defeat in their last round victory over North Melbourne, this week’s visitors to the Sunshi

    WILDCARDS by KC from Casey

Casey’s season continued to drift into helplessness on Sunday when they lost another home game by a narrow margin, this time six points, in their Round 13 clash with North Melbourne’s VFL combination. The game was in stunning contrast to their last meeting at the same venue when Casey won the VFL Wildcard Match by 101 points. Back then, their standout players were Brodie Grundy and James Jordon who are starring in the AFL with ladder leaders, the Sydney Swans (it turned out to be their last

    LIFE SUPPORT by Whispering Jack

With Melbourne’s season hanging on a thread, Saturday night’s game against North Melbourne unfolded like a scene in a hospital emergency department.  The patient presented to the ward in a bad way. Doctors and nurses pumped life-saving medication into his body and, in the ensuing half hour, he responded with blood returning to his cheeks as he stirred back to life. After a slight relapse, the nurses pumped further medication into the bloodstream and the prognosis started looking good as the
