If we get Paul Roos as coach thought it might be interesting to see what others thought about potential spot fillers.

Terlich will be worried - he moved him on at Sydney I think I remember reading.

I cant wait to see who he attracts to the club as injections of ready-made mids. Rory Sloane more of a chance?

My feeling is that if he does sign and to be honest I wont dare open myself up to believing it until I read it in black and white - he will say that we are in for at least another year of pain before things turn around.

He actually said that we shouldn't get carried away, referring to Terlich, with a defender who gets a lot of possessions and turns over quite a few, while his man is scoring goals. He said that Terlich needs to learn how to lock down his man. Makes sense.

Firstly.... the ball is in defence often and comes in rapidly.

Secondly.... maybe a good coach can teach him how to lock down his man and no turn over the ball as often.

I do remember him saying that when commenting a Melbourne game at the start of the year

And he was spot on, Terlich does leak goals like a sieve

Love his heart though

its interesting that people think that our currently listed players are basically good enough under the right coach.

I would put Clisby in the back line group.

I hope that Evans can have a full preseason and slot into the midfield.

I think Strauss could find his way into the back line with the right direction.

I think Kent and Taggert could improve a lot (Toumpas may take a little longer)

We really need a small forward now - I would put Tappy ahead of Byrnes.

Blease could be anything (rebounding defender/wing man/forward pocket)

Gawn should really make strides next year (I think it was a long season for him).

Who knows what Trengove will be like next season.

Doubt Barry will be playing round one next year.

Looks like a long term prospect but then again look at Geelongs Motlop.

As long as he doesn't turn out to be another Cale Morton.

He has been in consistant form in the VFL, has a bit of class about him, another full pre season and he might be well on the way

Where the hell did Boyd come into calculations?

I'd be putting in James Aish (SA) in our best 22. I think we'll get him at pick 2.

I went with the picks 1 & 3 idea because that's what i believe we will get,

but you're right, Aish is absolutely in if we get pick 2

dunn i think is contracted for 2014? and i reckon it'll be between him and terlich as to who gets the role as 6th defender.

no reason why we won't pick up betts. that $600k pay packet request is a myth.

Paul Roos is the reason we won't pick up Betts.

Pretty good Andrew.

But I think Jamars days are numbered. Gawn looks the goods.

I'd also go after Daisy providing his ankle is fixable. That way he could replace Blease another with a dodgy ankle.

I've done a Team without any new recruits, but with the number 2 pick in the draft, whether we trade it for someone like Daisy Thomas or take someone like Aish or Kelly, they might get a gig. Depends on who we play as well. Dunn/Pederson could come in if more hieght was needed. Also, could probably have swapped Evans and Jetta for M. Jones and Terlich, line call.. Could also have swapped Byrnes for Kent if he wants to go for youth.

Obviously the ones Roos named in his article are the main stays. I think Terlich with a preseason of defensive coaching will improve. He does stick to an opponent and play well up the ground, it's just deep under pressure that he struggles. And his kicking was good early in the year, people made too much of one error when he was getting it 25 times with no one to kick to. Clisby is another who might just be a Roos special with the way he runs aggressively and is a decent defender. If Roos is smart he will go for smarter footballers who need more work like Clisby over dumb ones.

Up forward I think the 3 big guys pick themselves and I think Clark will start as the back up ruck if healthy. Roos has no aversion to a lot of talls but unless he hits the mature age market hard he'll know he needs guys who can rotate into the midfield to make up the run. That's why Sylvia and Byrnes are named forward and Clark is the second ruck.

I'm hoping Gawn has a huge off season and stands out as the number 1 ruck, his competitiveness should come through. The midfield is a big question mark. Again it's futile to predict which if any mature players we can attract. Barring that I have faith in Toumpas, Evans, Kent and Trengove. If Evans gets a fit AFL body he can mix it at the level and is a competitor. Trenners of course gets in. And I really like how Kent got better as the season went on, that's a really good sign. Toumpas might not be an ideal round 1 Roos player but if he comes on after a preseason he will continue to be our best kick of the footy.

Watts is the biggest question mark at all. Personally I'm not putting him in a forward 50 when I've got Hogan, Dawes and Clark available. That's 3 guys who will either take contested marks or halve contests all day long and chase and pressure when the ball does hit the deck. I'm looking for a position that uses Watts speed, skills and visions. So be that half back, wing or half forward up the ground I'm not sure. The first thing I'd do if I was Paul Roos would be to have a huge heart to heart open chat with Watts and if he wanted out I'd explain if the deal is right he can go. If he wanted in then I'd explain his skills and weaknesses and just what I'd do about them.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
