Yep, you got this one right.

I don't recall your declarations that Wines would be the clear pick and that Toumpas would be a mistake, but congratulations.

That's under the assumption Toumpas won't dramatically improve over time, as most sensible people might expect.

Btw how many have you got wrong over the years..?

Both were inconsistent and at largely ineffective in the early stages of their careers and were dropped before becoming highly effective - Brownlow placed footballers of elite skill level. Its too early to draw assumptions on Toumpas, who could also have been considered a golden ticket pock on the basis of his best on ground showings at senior SANFL level as a 16 year old. Wines is a ripper kid and a good player but he was always going to have an instant impact given his wombat build. As mentioned by a poster earlier, Macrae would have been the best pick on the evidence to date, for what that evidence is worth.

Mainstream is Scully and Toumpas.

I don't care what Emma disagrees with, she is only relevant to getting the draft order right - the night before the draft, that just takes close contracts.

What I am interested in are people who can identify talent, go out on a limb and assess that talent - how they see it. They don't care how others see it.

Fremantle of recent times are a good example, Hill, Fyfe, Ballantyne, Barlow.. All outfield picks, Hill wasn't expected to go at 3, Barlow was completely overlooked.

I had Martin and WInes coming to MFC, so I don't really care what Emma Quayle thinks the night before the draft.

Mainstream is also Judd, Hodge, Franklin, Goddard, Riewoldt, Whitfield, Patton, Boyd, etc etc etc etc.

So you don't care what Emma Quayle thinks, only what you think, which you rationalise post-draft. You don't want us to pick 'mainstream' picks even though the vast majority of 'mainstream' picks are correct, and at any rate what 'mainstream' really means here is 'based on the evidence'.

Please view the historical record for my predictions.

Actually, i have not got any wrong, yet. maybe trengove is he dosnt come good again. But I have been picking the right players since we started getting footage on the internet.

I go for the Geelong type of players, gladitorial winners. Like Hogan or the freaky aboriginals. I think you need a couple of freaks.

sorry I cannot forgive... Toumpas over Wines. Neeld overriding Todd Viney still makes me sick. I saw Port beat Geelong and saw Scorpions last week.

Can't believe we didn't take Freeman over Salem!

Toumpas is doing what alot of our first round draft picks haven't done for the last 7 years and thats developing in the 2s.

Thanks for enlightening us with your insightful observations.

We are all richer for it.

Is this a known fact that Neeld overruled Viney on taking Toumpas instead of Wines?

No, of course not.

"Known fact"??? This is Demonland.

known fact

Could you refer us to the article/evidence.

I think Jimmy has a lot of talent but has just been a bit mismanaged in his first year. Roos and co are trying to make up for those mistakes by letting him develop without a microscope on him at every turn, I think I read somewhere that the coaches felt like he's trying to hard and isn't letting his natural instincts take over.

Get over Wines and support the player on your list.

Roos was right about the fixation on draft numbers being ridiculous.

Nothing to do with the draft number, it's how Melbourne chose to use it.

If we had Wines, we off finished further up the ladder last year.

We wouldn't of been in a position to pull the trigger on the Tyson/Salem deal.

That is about the only positive I could find.

Can't believe we didn't pick McRae /:

So he is receiving as much heat as all the other players who have played 2 or less games this year?

Obviously not.

It's draft number and hefty expectations, even more so when a lot of them had their hearts set on Wines.

It's not the draft number in this case, it's Wines performance.

Or more so toumpas lack of impact so far compared to wines, McRae and Mayes

I still reckon we should have gone with Brodie Grundy

  • PREVIEW: Gold Coast

Melbourne’s slow starts have been a troubling theme for a while. Against the Suns, they started slowly in both of their games, they trailed by 5.7.37 to 0.1.1 at quarter time at Peoples First Stadium in Round 16. This season, the story has remained the same and if the Demons fail to shake off this issue against the unbeaten Gold Coast Suns, they will be in serious danger of capitulating once again in their Easter Sunday showdown.

  • REPORT: Carlton

The text messages started flooding in shortly after quarter time. One read: “Is Melbourne even at the ground?” Moments later, as Carlton’s Elijah Hollands kicked the first goal of the second term, the Blues held a commanding 43-point lead. By then, the Demons’ only score was a behind kicked by Brody Mihocek nearly five minutes into the game. Ironically, Mihocek would also register the last minor score of the day after the game took a dramatic turnaround.
