The irony.

Like Sloan in that draft (who was apparently a lock at pick 35, which we then used on Bennell), Shuey was apparently pencilled in at pick 17 in the 2008 draft (along with Schoenmakers whom I think was picked up by Hawthorn at pick 16).

The club was surprised the Saints didn't pick Blease with pick 13 or 14, and they jumped on him instead at pick 17, thinking he might still be available with pick 19, which we used on Strauss (and which we should've used on Zaharakis IMO at the time).

These decisions would have been game changers for our midfield - in one draft.

On a more positive note, the fact that we've been so hopeless for so long - at pretty well everything - has perhaps resulted in the phenomenal changes that are now taking place at the club.

Jesus what a punch to the balls.

I appreciate you trying to give people a heads up on inside info. But when there's another poster saying that they've heard the complete opposite, it makes for very annoying information.

Have you spoken to Shuey personally?

Or has this come from a line of 'people in the know'.

I wish people would just say where they've heard it.

Even if it's through an extraterrestrial.

No i never said i got this from any inside info. Was actually reported on one of the facebook pages which i should have put down as my source so i apologise. Even if its not true it doesnt hurt to find other peoples thoughts on it.

I understand the logic that picking up Sloan and Shuey would have been game changers for us, based on the players they are now, but I am big doubts that we would have been able to turn them into the players they are now based on how poor we've been at developing players over the years.

I reckon it would be easy to argue that had Strauss and Blease not gotten injured, and had they been recruited by a different club, then they would be better players then they are now, AND, we might be talking about how we stuffed up selecting Sloan and Shuey instead of those two.

Surely the Eagles would do everything they can to retain Shuey. They need mids just like us.

Even if we got pick one and offered it up for a package including Shuey, what would they do with Boyd? He would be in there amongst Kennedy, Darling and a resting Cox/Nicnat.

They are similar to us in needing more and more mids

We are in the box seat for Shuey.

If it does go through, will be very happy to get more free kicks aswell.

Umpires love Shuey.

Until he dons the red and the blue.

Where has this come from?

Contrary to rumours, I don't think Shuey is going anywhere. He said (a couple of years ago) that after all the Eagles did for him when his sister passed away he wouldn't want to go anywhere else.

This is a case of rumour vs rumour but I did hear that the managers of Shuey and Selwood both came out after the links were made to the MFC and stated that this had come from nowhere and had no basis in fact.

Would it be reasnable to say that,if the deal went down, it may look like this;

Melb give pick 2

WCE give pick 24 and Shuey.

If it accounts for anything, I had a dream I worked for the MFC and traded pick 2 for Luke Shuey before he was ever mentioned as a possible get.. Usually my dreams weirdly are a reliable source to predict the future, take of it what you will.

The only issue I have with shuey is that he does NOT know how to shake a tag.. & lets be honest.. he will be targeted every week.

If he is targeted every week then that free's up Jones to do what he likes.

I dont think Shuey is worth Pick 2 on his own.

Shuey + 2nd Rounder I would probably do.

Shuey + an Ash Smith (stingray boy) type would also be interested.

You can't be serious or if you are please watch Ash Smith live, he is not up to AFL standard

Trade Radio just said that Shuey is overseas and is pretty happy in Perth and management have no collection from interest from Melbourne.

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

A few new faces joined our veteran Demonland Trackwatchers on a beautiful morning out at Gosch's Paddock for another Preseason Training Session. BLWNBA'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I arrived at around 1015 and the squad was already out on the track. The rehab group consisted of XL, McAdam, Melksham, Spargo and Sestan. Lever was also on restricted duties and appeared to be in runners.  The main group was doing end-to-end transition work in a simulated match situation. Ball mov

WAYNE WUSSELL'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS Rehab: Lever, Spargo, McAdam, Lindsay, Brown Sinnema is excellent by foot and has a decent vertical leap. Windsor is training with the Defenders. Windsor's run won't be lost playing off half back. In 19 games in 2024 he kicked 8 goals as a winger. I see him getting shots at g

Demonland's own Whispering Jack was not in attendance but he kicked off proceedings with the following summary of all the Preseason Training action to date. We’re already a month into the MFC preseason (if you started counting when the younger players in the group began the campaign along with some of the more keen older heads)

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
