Maverick Weller

As Tingles said and probably knows him best id still take him ahead of Bail and Nicholson but i was very surprised he was delisted. Id happily sign him as a delisted free agent or a rookie for sure.

kids with attitude problems may be best thru the rookie program?

I agree with you dd but saying he is better than those two does not rate him all that highly

How many of our midfielders had 27 touches in the last game vs GWS? I think we can knock the w@nker out of him.

who is this guy?

And i'm not even trying to be funny. I have no idea who he is.

Someone about whom I am certain some posters here, or elsewhere, would have written when first drafted "he will be an absolute gun!"**, and a guy with an interesting name.

**a familiar phrase on this board, used often for the likes of Cale, Maric, Dunn, McKenzie, Blease, Tynan, Taggert etc etc

Could be worth a roll of the dice. Price will be low as not much interest in him at the moment. GC have some very talented midfielders at the moment, so hard to crack in there. Been in the system for a few years so ready to go. Seems a little jaded, so may work to help with extra motivation to prove people wrong, or he might just be a tool.

I must admit, I was keen to get him until I read above about him being a D-head. I don't want to bother with his type.

Same thought

Roos has a No DH policy after all

Roos has a no DH policy but seems to get DH in and convert them e.g. Reece Shaw, Barry Hall (for a limited time)

"Delisted Gold Coast defender Maverick Weller appears likely to find a new home, with two Melbourne clubs showing strong interest in the 21-year-old.

Weller, who can move to any club as a delisted free agent, was one of the inaugural Suns, joining the club as a 17-year-old access selection in 2010."

Hope we're one of them.

He fits our age profile, and need for mids. And Roos is a great mentor for a dh

Great. I hope MFC is the one. Weller excelled against mfc at the g in 2012

Lets get the clubs Tassie boys Garlo, Howe and Robbo to get in his ear.

Get Weller on board and we can once again become the club of destination for people from the Apple Isle.

Weller & Cross come across as Delisted Free Agents. Trade Michie in for a 3rd round pick and get Bugg in the Pre-Season draft and we've gone some way to fixing our midfield depth problem at very little cost.

Sports a tattoo of his Top Gun namesake...

Definitely should get him. Young, big bodied and talented individual. Sure he did not perform that well at GC however any player who was slightly off in performance was going to get cut from there with the list they had and culls they had to make. Definitely has the talent and build to succeed in the AFL and Paul Roos I believe is the perfect coach for him. Rookie spot for him and make him work his butt off. Remembering he is still only 21 and already has 3 years of AFL experience.

This guy sounds like a bit of a [censored].. But all I want is for him to get the ball.. Bring him on board..

Agree ... but We will need to offer a listed opportunity as he will have other suitors

True well then offer him a 3 year deal with performance/behaviour based clauses and watch him grow under Roos. He is not as bad as people make him out to be through rumours and other BS.

I hope we seriously consider the Mav. Would add hardness and a strong body around the stoppages also can play a tagging role. I remember this bloke being highly rated before the draft. Adds more depth to our midfield.

  • REPORT: Carlton

I am now certain that the decline in fortunes of the Melbourne Football Club from a premiership power with the potential for more success to come in the future, started when the team ran out for their Round 9 match up against Carlton last year. After knocking over the Cats in a fierce contest the week before, the Demons looked uninterested at the start of play and gave the Blues a six goal start. They recovered to almost snatch victory but lost narrowly with a score of 11.10.76 to 12.5.77. Yesterday, they revisited the scene and provided their fans with a similar display of ineptitude early in the proceedings. Their attitude at the start was poor, given that the game was so winnable. Unsurprisingly, the resulting score was almost identical to that of last year and for the fourth time in succession, the club has lost a game against Carlton despite having more scoring opportunities.

  • CASEY: Carlton

The Casey Demons smashed the Carlton Reserves off the park at Casey Fields on Sunday to retain a hold on an end of season wild card place. It was a comprehensive 108 point victory in which the home side was dominant and several of its players stood out but, in spite of the positivity of such a display, we need to place an asterisk over the outcome which saw a net 100 point advantage to the combined scores in the two contests between Demons and Blues over the weekend.

  • POSTGAME: Carlton

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.
