Jimmy Toumpas has been the main positive so far. We all know how good a kick he is but he has shown a cool head and composure on the last line on more than one occasion so far. A long way to go but good signs against good opposition!

The effort is OK IMO, but the decision making from Nicholson, M.Jones, Dunn, Davey and others has been diabolical.

For the most part the effort has been there. Some of our players being overwhelmed with the physical side of Geelongs game, too many strong bodies in midfield. Also Craig allowed the Cats to sit a player behind the ball for the most part of the first half making it very difficult to move the ball forward in these conditions. Our defense is holding up relatively well. We have one two many Talls up forward making it hard to compete at ground level & lock the ball inside forward 50 as well as compete through the midfield. As one poster noted Fitzy will most likely be subbed as he is ineffective at the moment due to the conditions.

I'm OS at the moment and have to listen to KRock who actively support Geelong, but they are saying that we are playing too defensively and are playing from behind so we can't possibly win because there is no offensive effort in our game. Is that about it?

55 tackles in a half of footy - heading towards a team record high tackles. Playing the best team in the comp, probably the best team of the modern era and arguably the best team of all time. We are the second worst side in the competition. We are playing in Geelong, where they have won 37 of their last 38 matches (only losing to that year's Premier by a couple of goals).

Effort is not the problem. Strength around the ball, proper use of the ball and knowledge of where to run are much bigger issues.

Cats players working players off the ball and using teammates who instinctively run to the right areas make a team look like they aren't trying. Geez - any time a better team [censored] a lower team people whinge that the players aren't trying - conveniently ignoring the glaring differences between the sides.

It's a dullards way of looking at a game (such as today's) where people essentially are saying that if the players tried harder we'd be winning.

You mean like when we beat a terrible Bulldogs side by 3 points or when we were comfortably beaten by a side in first gear on our home ground in perfect weather for footy? You look like you're looking for cheap excuses and easy answers - they don't look like they're playing under the weight of 186, you look like you're desperately trying to attach an association that isn't there.

The biggest disappointment so far is that Sylvia's 150th is about as good as his 1st game. He is a wasted talent. Can't imagine that will ever change.

How many times today do we have to see a Geelong player receive the ball while his Melbourne opponent, who is 5 metres behind him, all of a sudden wakes up and tries to run over to him?

If you're excusing today's effort then you must have been really happy with Neeld.

This club has recruited too many B grade footballers. It is not rocket science for us supporters who have to watch this garbage year in year out.

If we keep holding it up and kicking to a contest we are going to continue to get brutalised. They are far superior and frankly hungrier in winning contested ball so its just going to keep coming back the other way. If we can just get some possession chains going I'll be happy.

Thanks I stopped listening to the radio and from half way through the second quarter have been watching the stats on afl site. It's less frustrating but you don't know what is actually happening. They did at one stage say that Dunn gave a two fisted punch away and if he could do that them why didn't he mark it; Dunn seems to do that a lot and also is quite happy at times to let the ball run oob when he is by himself and can get too it. Seems as if he just doesn't have confidence in his own ability.
