The Trade/Draft Rumour Mill

How could it possibly be band 4 unless all guidelines are ignored as with the PP.

Was trying to be rhetorical.

That's the problem....two of the same?

Having said that Byrnes has impacted in 2013 more than Jetta for their respective clubs.

Also, the rumour's left field as how can we swap for a pick? Essendon are out of this draft....

What the hell are you talking about??

That's rubbish, they won't even use a fifth round pick.

right now our 5th rounder would be essendons 3rd live pick

right now our 5th rounder would be essendons 3rd live pick

But they won't use it just for the sake of it, the likelihood of them picking up a player who'll make an impact that late is next to none.

they have to use 3 picks - its likely theyll trade for earlier ones but its not the crazy option you make out

They'd have to upgrade a rookie then, no?

Minimum 3 list changes?

I don't think that includes FA.

sorry...tis monday...havent had 3rd coffee yet , my bad

you would think both Crows and Messendon to be keen to do ' reasonable ' trades to get in. Like us they'll have to pay overs somewhat to get back into the game. Tis was it is !! :)

As I understand it, Essendon can still trade for higher picks... they just lose their allocated picks.

Yes, that is the case. Should make them easier to deal with you would think? Doesn't seem that way though!

We hold all of the cards in this situation... as I said in another post, if they are getting desperate towards the end of the trade period, then they will offer as much as it takes (so we should stand firm)... however, with the state of play re infraction notices, I doubt we would be game enough to gamble on taking what they might offer.

I am over this pick 2 debate. I honestly think we get some afl experienced mids with our sylvia compo and later picks or psd and just use pick 2 on the best kid in the draft. That way we get some top up experience with later picks and psd but we also get a ready made midfielder who can play 8-10 years. So keep pick 2 and use later picks on afl players and after next season if we are more successful than previous ones suss out free agency. No use trading pick 2 this year as all the good players are staying put now.

Either GWS buckles...or we get a newby..

and we move on

Funniest post for a while, still chuckling.

What the hell are you talking about??

Not sure.

What the hell are you talking about in relation to what the hell I'm talking about?

I didn't know that Esseden could trade for higher picks.

Hey Machsy (if that's your real name!)....have a lie down.

I know exactly what I'm talking about.

You clearly don't.

Essendon just had their 1st & 2nd round picks taken off them.

That's it.

I'm not the one trying to tell people otherwise.

Surely the first question asked of any player from Messendon that wanted to be traded would be "Did you participate in the vitamin injection program?" You'd even go down the path of stat decs etc to protect yourselves. Or are we not allowed to ask because it is a breach of confidentiality?

Depends, did it come from the OX?

Just some bloke texting in a rumour

probably the same bloke that floated it on the trade-talk...blog. A fanciful imagination I think

I like this one! From trade talk: Adelaide doing the deal for Melbourne Pick 2. They have thrown in Vince, McKernan, two used chewies, a pack of playing cards and one left foot thong.

  • PREVIEW: Hawthorn

Melbourne and Hawthorn who face off against each other this week have more in common than having once almost merged and about to wear a blue jumper with a red v triangle and an embroidered picture of a bird on the front. They also share the MCG as their main home ground, their supporters are associated with the leafy suburbs of Melbourne and in recent times, James Frawley graced the colours of both teams. Even more recently, both have bounced back from disastrous five game losing streaks to start off a season. Of course, the Hawks turned their bounce into a successful leap from the bottom of the ladder into a finals appearance, making it to the semifinals in 2024 and this year, they’re riding high in third place on the AFL table. The Demons are just three games into their 2025 bounce back, and are yet to climb their way out of the bottom four although they are sitting a game and percentage out of the top eight. However, with the current sportsbet odds of $3.90 to win this week’s encounter, it seems a forlorn hope that their upward progression will continue much longer.

  • REPORT: West Coast

On a night of counting, Melbourne captain Max Gawn made sure that his contribution counted. He was at his best and superb in the the ruck from the very start of the election night game against the West Coast Eagles at Optus Stadium, but after watching his dominance of the first quarter and a half of the clash evaporate into nothing as the Eagles booted four goals in the last ten minutes of the opening half, he turned the game on its head, with a ruckman’s masterclass in the second half.  No superlatives would be sufficient to describe the enormity of the skipper’s performance starting with his 47 hit outs, a career-high 35 possessions (22 of them contested), nine clearances, 12 score involvements and, after messing up an attempt or two, finally capping off one of the greatest rucking performances of all time, with a goal of own in the final quarter not long after he delivered a right angled pass into the arms of Daniel Turner who also goaled from a pocket (will we ever know if the pass is what was intended). That was enough to overturn a 12 point deficit after the Eagles scored the first goal of the second half into a 29 point lead at the last break and a winning final quarter (at last) for the Demons who decided not to rest their champion ruckman at the end this time around.

  • POSTGAME: West Coast

Following a disastrous 0–5 start to the season, the Demons have now made it three wins in a row, cruising past a lacklustre West Coast side on their own turf. Skipper Max Gawn was once again at his dominant best, delivering another ruck masterclass to lead the way.
