By some accounts the AFL has had to rethink a few things as they havent been overly inundated by those it would consider appropriately credentialed in seeking the Melbourne role. Imagine that , Vlad unable to control the universe. Must be very humbling for him ^_^

Stockdale is seen as the better of ...well.... the best of candidates to date.

I think this is quite demeaning of Vlad-inc but i suppose we hush our contempt whilst grovelling.

I find it all quite amusing really , this kerfuffle about a measly 2.5/2.7 Mill. I mean its not a lot different to the various payouts under various guises given any club. Attach the tag of "bail -out" and it suddenly becomes contentious and weighed down with conditions.

Whomever becomes President I hope they dont have overly full diaries or pressing O/S trips as they will need to be there, and seen , at the helm.

cant remember where I read or heard but Freeman got x-nayed by Vlad

ix-nayed?

Thats about all I know about the coaching position.

I thoroughly disagree with the notion that the Roos/Lyon style of coaching is dull or boring. Its winning football at its most structured, disciplined and strategic. Like feasting on prime steak instead of junk food.

Just watched a recording of OTC.

I noticed that the first thing that Paul Roos said was that he had a chat with Peter Jackson and discussed SOME ISSUES.

I would be interested in knowing what these ISSUES might be and whether they needed to be addressed before he would consider the job.

Who knows, maybe we're all clutching at straws.

Issues? What would PJ be discussing issues with Roos?

They should have been discussing whether Roos was interested in the job or not.

What sort of issues?

Maybe the sort of issues that need to be sorted out before he will accept the job..?

As for not accepting, Roos will play this out until after the season, probably until after we get some sort of draft concession.

It's in the AFL's interest too - for it to appear that we needed the assistance, and it enticed Roos to accept the position.

Otherwise it looks like Roos dictating terms to the AFL.

We live in hope.

Roos won't be "interested" until the Board and CEO are sorted, perhaps? He keeps saying things that are consistent with that logical position. He may really be waiting until after those things before he actually decides. It would make good sense to do it in that order. In which case, there would be no answer yet. Rightly.

Posted

if you think about it roos will not say anything until end of season, just imgaine, what would craig do if he wanted said job and roos was appointed today, graig might resign now leaving as with no coach.

An interesting point from OTC a few weeks ago which no one had picked up. Just after Gerard Healy stated that Paul Roos was not going to be the next Melbourne coach he threw to Roos a seemingly benign but tricky question about Melbourne or the Bulldogs deserving a priority pick. Roos stumbled and mumbled for a while as he sensed a trap. He had little to say about the Bulldogs and talked mostly about us. He chose his words carefully so as not to seem prejudical to Melbourne's case for a priority pick. This confirmed to me he is definetly interested in coaching us and that negotiations are nearing an advanced stage.

at the end off season, PJ will ask roos if he wants job, if answer is no then they will ask other coachs eade, willams, craig to apply. if they all say no then we will have to get untired coach, viney is the man

You're saying he definitely will not coach the MFC next year? Is that your opinion?

That was certainly the impression I got, yes.

However, as I also said earlier in this OTC discussion, the fact that I have committed to that point of view probably means that he is a cert to coach the MFC in 2014... my predictions do have a habit of biting me in the ars e.

Eade and Williams would crawl over broken beer bottles to get the job.

Viney has no hope

money is not going to be the deciding factor.

yes and Gary Ablett went to GC for 'a new challenge'

when will people stop being so ridiculously naive and realise that nobody under any circumstances is going to state publicly that something is based on money. Even though we all know and accept that money is the main reason anybody does anything, for some reason we have a culture where stating such things outright does not go down well

you have to dress in up in a different package so we can all go along with the charade

seriously.. what do you expect Roos to say on TV? 'Well I am holding out for more money, I want to make 6 million instead of 5 million because an extra million is better, I can get a better house with that'

wake up FFS

not so sure about Eade, maybe williams, but eade would be paid more at collingwood, and with a lot less pressure

And when will you realise that there are some who do not pray to the money god? Perhaps Roos is not driven by the almighty dollar (he would already be very comfortably well off), or perhaps he is... we will find that out soon enough. But please don't try to apply your standards to everyone else.

I dont think anyone else would ante up that...remember we're just passing on Vlads filthy money here . No one else will be getting that, well not next year.

Unlike some others I have no idea what Roos will do. But nothing has changed. I watched last night and reckon people are trying to read into things that aren't there.

The simple facts are that when asked last year whether he'd coach Carlton in 2013 he said "no". When asked if he could categorically rule it out he said "yes". End of story. When asked the same question about Melbourne he now won't make "closed ended statements, but nothing has changed".

He's just as likely to coach next year as he was before. Or not.

If I had to guess I'd say he wants to, and is a strong chance to, but will baulk when asked until the end of the year, or close to it. Or not.

I think it's past time the club shelved Roos and looked at coaches who are interested in doing the job. There are plenty of experienced coaches out there who would love to get a senior gig again. Why keep pestering a guy who just isn't into us?

the AFL will move heaven and earth to make it happen if it becomes a battle with other clubs, WCE and Brisbane don't need to be saved

Demonland Trackwatchers braved the sweltering heat to bring you their Preseason Training observations from Gosch's Paddock on Monday morning. SCOOP JUNIOR'S PRESEASON TRAINING OBSERVATIONS I went down today in what were pretty ordinary conditions - hot and windy. When I got there, they were doing repeat simulations of a stoppage on the wing and then moving the ball inside 50. There seemed to be an emphasis on handballing out of the stoppage, usually there were 3 or 4 handballs to

BEST OF THE REST by Meggs

Meggs' Review of Melbourne's AFLW Season 9 ... Congratulations first off to the North Melbourne Kangaroos on winning the 2024 AFLW Premiership. Roos Coach Darren Crocker has assembled a team chock-full of competitive and highly skilful players who outclassed the Brisbane Lions in the Grand Final to remain undefeated throughout Season 9. A huge achievement in what was a dominant season by North. For Melbourne fans, the season was unfortunately one of frustration and disappointment
