I get the feeling that he's not one to leave a job unfinished, he will get this club on the right tracks and ill be surprised if that only takes two years. I'd expect he'll be around for 3 years and if there's a premiership within his grasp he'll go around again.

I'm over the moon he's signed with our club and the club wasn't beaten to the punch by a rival club in getting an experienced coach. One which was targeted early on to address the issues that have left it in the mire.

My first impression is he wants to be sure we get our house in order,with the right people running the show. Roos isnt the type to settle for 2nd best.

He will want the board, the players, the club as a whole too be fully committed. I already like the sound of him being positive about improvements.

He gives hope, I am over coaches blurting out stats to cover up glaring holes in game plans etc.

He as already poured cold water over the existing game plan, the players will be a much better team under Roos. I cant wait to see how much they improve next year. I seem to recall some guy named Hogan to debut in 2014.

Geez how did we hang onto Schwab for so long he is an amateur compared to Jackson he has done more for this club in 6 months than Schwab could have done in 100 years

I found it pretty interesting that he was so candid in his desire to keep Watts and Sylvia, on the day of him being appointed. Pretty sure he brought it up without being prompted as well, but could be mistaken. This was despite him being alot more reserved when the issue of turning over the list came up, with him wanting to "get into the club, see how they train etc". I think that early vote of confidence will go a long way to keeping both players. For those who want them to stay.

He also guaranteed that whoever took over from him would see success. He didn't define "success", but the confidence was refreshing, and exciting.

To Satyr....Here is why you need to get excited - follow my warped logic.

Whilst so many on here blame Neeld for our current state I believe the players need to shoulder a great deal of the blame partly for an absence of talent but mainly for an absence of application.

We now have secured one of the mostly highly credentialed coaches of the last decade. Not only for his coaching methods but also his culture changing ways and everything he brings to the table (player destination and sponsors ?)

To jump into WYL's camp, if this doesn't work then we are truly stuffed. So I embrace Paul Roos and believe he will improve our current list immeasurably and attract new players to further improve us with every fibre of my body because it is either that or I will have to start watching a different sport.

( and after thought - I also embrace PJ as the worlds leading CEO for the same reasons as above)

I find myself getting angry at what Schwab did, but at the end of the day that's in the past. For too long we've looked to the past, I'm enthusiastic about the future!

He left the cushiest job ever getting paid to talk footy, on upwards of a mill a year, to coach arguably the worst football team ever.

You don't take that risk if you're not committed!

Agree with you there. Neels got his abilties mixed up with ambition. Roos has the runs on the board, even if he did say ship up or ship out, I would still trust him. As for Neeld he didnt want to hear what the players thought, it was his way or the highway. Beamer took the highway. Roos took the time to get the current leadership players together and get their views, Neeld had a serious desk, that was a put down for starters. Treating players like babies.

We have a pro in charge now, its going to show next year.

I'm not too fussed about the succession plan atm, its early days. Once he gets his teeth into coaching again his views way down the track may change.

It took him ages to commit to the MFC, for now let him take his time will those matters. It could all change when if he extends his contract.

if all the pieces of the puzzle fall into place for him, we win more games, dont have blowouts every week, he'll enjoy his job and hopefully want to coach longer. Its early days. I would prefer not to have someone looking over his shoulder, knowing in 2 yrs Roos is gone.

I want Roos to be there for 3 yrs and then review where we are at. Small steps atm, lets see how it all plays out.

Yes i thought the same. I watched the presser for about 25 mins and his approach was very player focused. Said on several occasions how impressed he was with the 8 he met with, reinforced he had heard good things about the list in terms of their work rate (from Misson, PJ and others) and generally was very positive about their ability. Stressed how much he wanted Sylvia and Watts to stay and that he would give Watts a role and let him stick with it. Again the opposite message to Neeld.

But the two things that stuck out most in terms of differences were:

• He immediately talked in terms of of "us" and "we"when talking about the players, the club and what needed to be done. Right from the get go he is connected, he is taking ownership. So different to Neeld who for weeks talked about them and indeed was disparaging about the past
• He mentioned the w word. That's right he talked about winning games of football. Not process, structure blah, blah, blah. Winning. What they play for and what supporters want.
