Tne MFC has become the laughing stock way beyond not only its immediate supporter base, even the AFL base, but is now in the general community. If you don't believe me, check out this item which is now going viral in the Victorian public service , and this comes from a friend of mine who is near the top of the Victorian public service, but also has next to zero interest in the AFL. She is however very much aware of the demons plight, perhaps through her friendship with me.

A seven year old boy was at the centre of a Melbourne courtroom drama yesterday when he challenged a court ruling over who should have custody of him.

The boy has a history of being beaten by his parents and the judge initially awarded custody to his aunt, in keeping with the child custody law and regulations requiring that family unity be maintained to the degree possible. The boy surprised the court when he proclaimed that his aunt beat him more than his parents and he adamantly refused to live with her. When the judge suggested that he live with his grandparents, the boy cried out that they also beat him.

After considering the remainder of the immediate family and learning that domestic violence was apparently a way of life among them, the judge took the unprecedented step of allowing the boy to propose who should have custody of him.

After two recesses to check legal references and confer with child welfare officials, the judge granted temporary custody to the Melbourne Football Club, whom the boy firmly believes are not capable of beating anyone.

Mmmmm. What can one say except in the face of this sort of ridicule why would the likes of Jesse Hogan, jack Viney, jack watts, chip Frawley, want to stay at the club? No one wants to be ridiculed, including me.

A greater argument for immediate action in tipping out Neeld I cannot think of, but not only him, we need desperately to get the Club back on track and hire the best administrators and coaches available to not only turn the ship around, but to seem to do so by the general football community. We desperately need to give players and supporters some confidence in the future.

As we go into the next two weeks when we are likely to be beaten by 200+ points - I would not be surprised if we even got to 300 point margins, we simply have to act - for all our sakes.

Tanking killed the spirit of the list, the players who played through those years i fear we have "lost" I will be amazed if many of them are with us in 2014.

A mate of mine who used to support Fitzroy, then Sydney (when he lived there for 10 years) is returning to Melbourne after a stint in London, and declared he was going to follow the Mighty Demons, because he "loves the Underdog" and can see how special it will be when we rise.

The joke may be shitty, but what would be more likely to make the likes of Jesse Hogan, Jack Viney, Jack Watts and Chip Frawley to not want to stay at the club, would be if they visit these forums and see what gets written about them by their own, and I use this term in the loosest possible way, "supporters".

I think you guys have missed the point.

It is precisely why the MFC has broken into the general community as a source of ridicule which is the concern. The joke is the joke, and anyone who has anything to do with the "caring" community will realize they have an acute and often cutting sense of humour and send themselves up constantly often in the face of appalling circumstances. It is not in any way surprising a joke would be made about our circumstance through them. And that is the point.

We are seen as a laughing stock. If we have any ambition to recover and ultimately be successful that is the last place we want to be.

The joke is quite an old one actually and this version is just a variation of an old theme. Just goes to show, what goes around, comes around.

I work in an office full of other teams supporters, nobody comes near me with any comment or attempt at humour with the Dees as the butt of it.....coz I tell them to sod off and remind them of when they were in the same boat........the jokes are all retreads anyway...I put a joke myself on twitter yesterday, ........in the tradition of the flashing horns Melb supporters are being offered a special gift on Sunday....a blindfold and a last cigarette.......er it's just footy

In all my 50 years following the Demons I have never felt I should dis-own the Club. Today, when you "own up" to supporting the Dees you are either greeted with ridicule or worst still, sympathy.

There will not be many players, supporters, media commentators or AFL officials left with a good word to say about us very soon.

This is serious. Not something which should be minimized as being "an old joke".

Serious action is needed.

In serious danger from what, King Kong is not real WYL it is an animatronic puppet.....don't expect to see it hanging from a light tower on Sunday....the club is not going to fold.........blind eye to what....I watch the on field performance, I can see what is going on, maybe a bit of patience is needed but unfortunately I don't think that's gonna happen......

.....and of course, sacking Neeld today would prevent that right away???

No, it would just allow us to find someone new to get angry with.

(By the way I am not saying that Neeld is THE answer to our problems, just saying that yet another mid season sacking would send an awful message to any prospective coach who may be foolish or maybe adventurous enough to consider us as a long term career move. I don't think even Richmond or StKilda have sack four consecutive coaches mid season.)

Being a MFC supporter for the past 40 years is akin to several lifetimes lessons in humility, patience and loyalty.

Few other clubs supporters are so blessed.

Recidivist abuser - moi -probably when I was younger, but find it hard to rise to the occasion now..........but sarcastic maybe, condescending..ever so slightly......I just don't want you or some others (WYL) straining anything trying to debate with me...Dees2014 thank you for the defence, unfortunately the don't recognise it in themselves so you will receive it as well

Besides Hogan for obvious reasons, they could get a kick and drag the club out of this mess. Yes, we're in a poor state, but they must acknowledge the opportunity they have to turn it around. As competitive people, surely they must have some sense of responsibility.

I'm glad you could work out what he meant Iv'a. I had no idea who this person gracing us with 'reasoned argument' was supposed to be. Didn't occur to me for a moment that he was referring to S'home.

As for people 'of your sort' maybe 2014 could have a look at your post on the Foundation Heroes thread. Personally, I dips me lid to people 'of your sort'.
