Those two are obviously out, so i think Neeld is backing the boys that played in there last week to replicate that performance. While it may seem a strange decision to some here, I think it is the right one. We can upgrade Magner at any stage during Grimes' injury, so lets see how the boys go this week and assess from there, rather than just saying Neeld has no idea because you want him gone.

I also wouldn't be surprised if Magner wasn't promoted purely because the coach doesn't think he'll add much to the side. I really struggle with the Magner love around here.

He's trying to put utmost pressure on the rookies to lift themselves to a new level... if there is an expectation amongst the rookies, even a hint of comfort amongst any of them, then obviously this would push the keenest of them to lift above the group to try t [censored] the spot available.

If, Neeld wasn't wanting to elevate one of them for this particular game, that may suggest that Grimes going onto the LTI, means that next week, Neeld wants the rookies, to show their best games to earn a call up... to compete fiercly with one another.

Just a brainstorm but may be worth playing Shannon Byrnes on the ball for alot of this match, not sure if he has the endurance needed but another bit of ex around the bounce couldn't hurt?

Magner is no world beater, but we have 2 midfield players out from the selected team last week. Both are not lightly framed guys. Looking at the list of players available, and assuming Neeld would want to replace these guys with 2 similar typres, who comes in? Kent & Rodan? Rodan & Taggart? Kent & Taggart? Surely Magner is next in line for strong midfield players?

Gold Coast is a team we could beat so i see no reason why he wouldnt want to pick the team most equipped to beat them on Sunday, not the team most likley to be our best 22 in 3 years time....

i just think it is very arrogant and ignorant for people the sit at their keyboards and slag off Neeld based on the selection table. There is a lot of information and a lot of factors that influence these decisions and we here are not privy to the majority of it. In this particular instance it is obvious that Magner is no star and therefore there are a number of good counter-arguments NOT to bring him in. I just wish more people would get behind the club instead of automatically getting in its face with every little things happens. Look at the captaincy thread for example.. a few days a go 'Neeld would never do this good idea' today its 'can't believe Neeld did this dumb idea', whatever happens he just gets cooked here unfairly. BTW I am not related to him :D

Mate, i really hope he is! we're trying to build a culture where hard work brings you reward, he has been probably in the top 3 players at casey every week, he is a mid and he is exactly what we need to remain competitive while our captains and mitch are out,

Magner's name has been bandied around as one who would help us out if he was on the senior list. An opening comes up and we rebuff..... its strange.

I know it's not going to happen as he has been good so far this year, but I would be dropping Terlich along with Nicho this week (sorry if this has been covered).

These habits must be eradicated from the word go if we are ever to be the toughest team to play against.

I don't think anyone is saying Magner is a superstar, but after losing two senior(ish) mids in Trengove and Grimes, and being regularly smashed in clearances and disposals, you'd think we'd consider bringing in a guy who is averaging 30 touches and 6 tackles in the VFL.

I was merely responding to someone hanging their hats on the fact we were close in clearances.

To me it's a strange decision. We're coming up against a very good albeit young midfield in a winnable game. Who comes in for Grimes and Trenners? Rodan? Given us nothing at AFL level. Fitzy? Not much help in the midfield. Toumpas? See Rodan. (I do think he'll be good eventually though). Blease? Still hasn't got AFL endurance.

This decision may cost him his job.

I don't question everything Neeld does and I have zero desire to see him fail like he currently is, because it hurts my club. But if a decision as baffling as this one isn't open to question or criticism, we may as well shut sites like this one down.

Magner is no superstar, not even close, but FFS we need to give Jones and the others some physical protection.

Magner is good for some clearances and tackles and he's somebody you won't push out of your way.

He is a good ordinary player that NEELD BROUGHT ONTO THE LIST to protect our young bodies. With Grimes and Trenners out, that's even less experience and strength going into that centre bounce every week. What is the harm in playing Magner? Or more to the point, what is the reason for bringing him to the club if you won't play him when everyone else has fallen over and died?

Btw, you wanna tell me that friggin Rodan on one leg and half a knee is a better option than Magner?

Clearly Neeld is trying to justify that pick up.
