How can a guy who says he has no idea what happens in preparation for next week possibly be in a position to make an informed choice as to who should be our coach every time that question comes up?

He was sitting in front of me with his wife and kids, the eldest wanted to leave the youngest wanted to stay so they did.

He was scathing of the players, not out loud but loud enough for those right near him to hear.

if i captained the club and felt the pain i feel, i wouldn't be writting in a newspaper, I'd be in there demanding answers.

But he has helped & everyone bags him for it.

He doesn't want to be a full time coach. Fair enough, not everybody is cut for it.

All or nothing though WYL. He can't just chime in when it suits him. We're at a desperate stage.

The problem is that AFL is such a fast-moving environment that in order to offer any kind of useful opinion, you must be 100% involved. You cannot possibly hope to be of any help if you aren't willing to go all the way. Simply being in and out all the time is actually worse than not even involving yourself at all.

DO SOMETHING GARY - nobody will stop you walking straight into the rooms and tearing strips off the individuals you have correctly identified as showing "lack of pressure, the decision making, the lack of intestinal fortitude ... courage if you like". Do it in front of everyone, see if next time they take the field they are haunted by being labelled a softc-ck by Gary Lyon in front of their teammates. Is anyone at all going to do anything out of the ordinary to try and fix this club or do we just go around again and again and again

A few early dips in the bay before dawn might shake up their intestinal fortitude.

It's up to the coaches to ensure the players next week will be feeling invincible with their mindset before taking on Essendon.

If there's a significant improvement we will know the coaches preparation was way off for Round 1.

If Lyon gets involved you'll hear the cries of "Old Boys Network" in even thread on this board. Imagine if he got involved and it didn't work, how quickly would we turn on him?

Imagine if the club is dying and he doesn't get involved...

If he got involved and it didn't work, then the criticism would be deserved. Likewise if he got involved and we came good, he could rest assured that he might still help us win the Premiership we couldn't get during his career.

High risk, high reward. I'm cool with him staying out of it forever. It's this flip-flop, in and out crap that I can't stand. It smacks of a (literal) amateur mindset.

So if Lyon gets asked an MFC Question on radio should he shove a paperbag over his head?

I don't think Lyon seeks it out...He gets asked by everyone.

Rock & a Hard Place imo

He can be a media man all he likes if that's his bag. I'd just like him to kindly butt out of official business if that's what he wants to do.

But it's like Dermott being asked opinions on Hawthorn. It's going to happen.

G Lyon speaks about the MFC. His comments were similar to the Ox,

Personally i am happy to hear it.

Still waiting for the Presidents words.....

    TROUBLE by The Oracle

Situated roughly in Australia's geographic centre, Alice Springs has for many years been a troubled town suffering from intermittent crime waves, particularly among its younger residents. There was a time a little while ago when things were so bad that some even doubted the annual AFL game in the town would proceed.  Now, the hope is that this Sunday’s Melbourne vs Fremantle encounter will bring joy to the residents of the town and that through the sport and the example of the participants,

    GALLANT by KC from Casey

The world “gallant” is not one that is readily acceptable to losing teams in our game of football so when it was used in the context of the Casey Demons’ loss to Sandringham in yesterday’s match at Casey Fields, it left a bitter taste in the mouth.  The Demons went into the game against the St Kilda affiliated Zebras with the advantage of playing on their home turf (not that this has been a major asset in 2024) and with very little else going in their favour. The Saints have close to a full

    MEANWHILE by Whispering Jack

… meanwhile, at about the same time that Narrm was putting its feet on the accelerator to obliterate the long-suffering Euro-Yroke combination, I heard someone mention in passing that Kuwarna was leading Waalitj Marawar by a whopping 46 to 1 halfway through the second quarter of their game over in Adelaide. “What is football coming to?” I asked myself.  In front of my eyes, the Demons were smashing it through the midfield, forcing turnovers and getting the footy to their forwards who w
