Sylvia now an unrestricted FA

Featured Replies

If he leaves, I could see it being to a club like Collingwood, but only if someone like Daisy Thomas is on his way out of the door...hopefully on his way to the MFC.

I always thoguht he was a FA - I do my own Contracts thread - oddly enough the AFL do half arsed jobs constantly on things like this...

And FA itself isn't the end for 'smaller' clubs - it can help smaller clubs if they are smart.

It aides smart clubs, regardless of size.

Bet you he'll have a great year and then leave us. Or have a great year, stay, and then play terrible again.

or stay with us..have a terrible year ..and still stay with us

If he leaves it will be finals you dimwit, you are a very slow witted man.

Yeah cos he's shown his interest in footy success through the years.... Fool.

Worst post I've ever read. If he walks it's because we won't match a larger offer from another club (Moloney, Rivers ring a bell?). Other clubs rate him highly because they know his talent and know he's coming from MFC where that talent would not have been harnessed properly.

not sure about Moloney but I believe Rivers is being paid less at Geelong than he was being paid on his last contract with us - we put a significantly smaller contract on the table in front of him - and with Moloney's form I would be gobsmacked if he is on the same money as his last contract at Melbourne.

So with Rivers we didnt match a larger offer because our offer was piddling to start with. With Moloney, I dont believe we even made an offer - he said he was off to explore free agency, we said fine, he said this is what I have been offered and we said cya !

Yeah Col has been a fav of mine for many years, but I really cannot see the value in keeping him.

You must be "blind freddy" if you haven't already worked out that other clubs can get more out of these talented players than us. But we just have to work with what we've got. So if that is recruiting established players from others clubs like Daisy, then we need to free up the room to fit them in.

"It's time to go ....... Colin Sylvia"

Yeah the Moloney one I think we probably said we're offering $0, so technically Brisbane would have offered more money! You're right with the Rivers one though, might be on less money.

I think people are a bit hard on Col

2011 he was

5th in kicks

5th in handballs

5th in handballs received

2nd in tackles

2nd in inside 50's

2nd in hard ball gets

Kicked 25 goals

Played in 19 games

2012 he had a severe back injury just prior to the season which limited him in a lot of ways....Plus playing in a sub standard mid field with a new game plan.......Cut him some slack....

I must be blind but where are all these talented ex demons that are ripping it up at other clubs?

They haven't played a game yet...

It's all Micky Mouse at the moment, the last ones who were ripping it up have been delisted, couldn't get a game and or retired (Buckley, Bruce, McDonald, Maric for starters). So many bemoaned the loss of Buckley when he was getting a kick at the Pies but where is he now????

Some will go on and play good footy elsewhere but the players we have had recently are just not good enough, it's why we are where we are on the ladder. Poor recruiting, poor players...the real gems come from good clubs, players that can't get a regular game like the Kennedy's of this world.

Moloney is yet to deal with a tag at his new club and we all know how well he handles that, if Black gets back it may help him. If he does that this year well and good but it's hardly an avalanche of ex demons ripping it up.

No wonder the AFL got his FA status wrong. He apparently doesn't exist at AFL HQ. After all, how many times have players from opposing clubs escaped match review penalties for 'collisions' with this invisible man?

olisik -

Moloney cracked the sads when we wasn't in the leadership group. Then didn't want to play for the team.. He decided his own destiny.. He is a [censored] anyways..

Petterd was unlucky not to show his best, injuries played a part.. But still he must of not shown the commitment he needed to show for Neeld to keep him.

You must have faith in the FD that they keep the right players go.. We are not the only club to have players leave, only to go on and play good footy.

Would appreciate somebody enlightening me on this. As far as I can tell, I'm with Bayside Dave. Won't free agency be terrible for the smaller clubs? One more nail... We'll lose our senior players because they'll go somewhere to give themselves a shot at a flag. I wouldn't miss Sylvia but I'm missing Rivers already. Every club needs those aging champions to provide leadership.

Too right - this is a godsend for the bigger clubs - they can just cherry pick to fill gaps - a la Goddard, and to a lssser extent Rivers. What incentive is there for a big fish to join a smaller / unsuccessful club ? None !

I bet he has a stinker of a year, does a Moloney by throwing the toys out of the cot and switching clubs, and have a blinder of a 2014.

I've never had much faith in Sylvia and combining that with very little show of heart regarding the club, I think he will go.

And I actually think there will be a number of clubs interested in him as I believe part of the reason he has so much unfulfilled potential is because of a lack of strong personalities and leaders around him.

I don't think Col has ever said anything against the club or his team mates .....Maybe it's the supporters that spit the dummy......How do you reckon that he will do a "Moloney".....He has never said that he wants to leave and has never held the club to ransom over previous contracts.....

See stats in previous post.....When not injured his stats are not as bad as you think....

I don't think he is a bad player at all - I actually think he has the potential to be a gun but he just doesn't do it and surely after 10 years he's had enough chances, so I wouldn't be overly fussed if he went.

Really? Hard? Tenth year and he has never finished in the top 5 in the B& F. Tells you what the various footy departments over the year think of his efforts.

You want slack? You really do accept mediocrity don't you.

Laziest footballer on our list.

Sylvia will re-sign early in the year. Thankfully.

We need Sylvia to play well and remain a Demon. We are thin enough for talent as it is.

Try as I might Jnr I am finding it hard to disagree

I wouldn't be surprised if the club happily let him go out the door.

And stuey, you're making a fool of yourself again.

Both Moloney and Rivers left for less money.

Don't hold your breath Roost it.

After nine years what gives you confidence it will happen in 2013?

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Port Adelaide

The undefeated Demons venture across the continent to the spiritual home of the Port Adelaide Football Club on Saturday afternoon for the inaugural match for premiership points between these long-historied clubs. Alberton Oval will however, be a ground familiar to our players following a practice match there last year. We lost both the game and Liv Purcell, who missed 7 home and away matches after suffering facial fractures in the dying moments of the game.

  • AFLW REPORT: Richmond

A glorious sunny afternoon with a typically strong Casey Fields breeze favouring the city end greeted this round four clash of the undefeated Narrm against the winless Tigers. Pre-match, the teams entered the ground through the Deearmy’s inclusive banner—"Narrm Football Weaving Communities Together and then Warumungu/Yawuru woman and Fox Boundary Rider, Megan Waters, gave the official acknowledgement of country. Any concerns that Collingwood’s strategy of last week to discombobulate the Dees would be replicated by Ryan Ferguson and his Tigers evaporated in the second quarter when Richmond failed to use the wind advantage and Narrm scored three unanswered goals.

  • CASEY: Frankston

The late-season run of Casey wins was broken in their first semifinal against Frankston in a heartbreaking end at Kinetic Stadium on Saturday night that in many respects reflected their entire season. When they were bad, they committed all of the football transgressions, including poor disposal, indiscipline, an inability to exert pressure, and some terrible decision-making, as exemplified by the period in the game when they conceded nine unanswered goals from early in the second quarter until halfway through the third term. You rarely win when you do this.

  • AFLW PREVIEW: Richmond

Round four kicks off early Saturday afternoon at Casey Fields, as the mighty Narrm host the winless Richmond Tigers in the second week of Indigenous Round celebrations. With ideal footy conditions forecast—20 degrees, overcast skies, and a gentle breeze — expect a fast-paced contest. Narrm enters with momentum and a dangerous forward line, while Richmond is still searching for its first win. With key injuries on both sides and pride on the line, this clash promises plenty.

  • AFLW REPORT: Collingwood

Expectations of a comfortable win for Narrm at Victoria Park quickly evaporated as the match turned into a tense nail-biter. After a confident start by the Demons, the Pies piled on pressure and forced red and blue supporters to hold their collective breath until after the final siren. In a frenetic, physical contest, it was Captain Kate’s clutch last quarter goal and a missed shot from Collingwood’s Grace Campbell after the siren which sealed a thrilling 4-point win. Finally, Narrm supporters could breathe easy.
