Players who havent done enough yet should still be in the team on reputation : Sylvia, Howe,Mckenzie,Garland

Players who we dont dont know will be in the team because of injury but are certainties if fit : Clark, Trengove,Blease Dawes

New players who should be in : Rodan, Byrnes, Viney Toumpas

New players who i think will miss out : Pederson ( either Sellar or Clark if fit will play intead), Gillies ( too many backmen his size)

Unlucky for now : Nicholson, Evans, Magner ( still a rookie)

Im not going to pick a full team based on position because we dont know who is fit and who is not as yet.

Oh.....and one more , Davey, ithink he should be in based on his Indegenous game and port power games, where he starred, he also dominated in the Casey game on the weekend, and has shown alot more than Sylvia, Howe or Mckenzie this preseason.

Just a point on Sylvia...what we wanted to see was an uninterrupted pre season and to get through the NAB Cup unscathed....now if he gets picked for Round 1....who knows?

As for the 22 on opening day...no idea...just at the minute there are too many variables

And if he's not in the 22 he won't be at the club next year.

I can see a repeat of Moloney, where the minute he gets dropped, he throws the toys out of the cot and wants out.

Sylvia should be one of the first 5 players picked on talent alone, but lacks consistency from week to week.

So I reckon Gillies and Terlich might be a chance for the back half:

Jones, Barry, Rodan, Toump and Viney are a chance in the middle

And Byrnes, Kent and perhaps Pederson could be a chance for the forwards.

I really rate Dean kent. I liked everything he did in the first game.

You lost me as soon as you said Barry, he is no where near the AFL level yet.

B - Garland Frawley Gillies Garland, despite his height seems to be our preference for the small forwards. Frawley picks himself. Gillies seems to have done all things right so far and looks a likely start

HB - Dunn T.McDonald Watts Dunn earnt this spot in the second have of last year. McDonald is our CHB for years to come. Watts will play. Most confident about this line!

C - Nicholson Grimes Terlich Neeld rates Nicholson and wants to use his speed. No better spot than a wing for that. Grimes to play permanent mid all year. I think Terlich will rotate through defence and spend some time on the wing

HF - Sylvia Dawes Howe Sylvia is a lock, as is Dawes. In fact so is Howe.

F - Toumpas Clark Byrnes TOUMPAS! An ex club doctor told me that Clark might never play again, however if he plays at Casey this week then lock him in! Byrnes has done sweet FA but I assume he'll get picked

R Jamar, Jones, Viney Unfortunately Jamar is still our #1 ruck. Hurry up Gawn! Jones and Viney pick themselves

Int Sellar, Rodan, Magner Sellar our backup ruck, Rodan and Magner have had good pre seasons.

Sub - Kent Kent looks to be our bolter of the pre season. Has speed and class to provide an impact in the second half

NB: Blease to play if deemed fit enough, however this seems unlikely as he's always that 5% off the rest. Maybe round 3?

My favourite things about this side are that howe and blease drifting forward would be very difficult to match up, jack trengove on last years form will have a fight just to regain his spot given how well the mature age recruits have played so far and the back line has what i consider All Australian potential in a few of those players!

I find the posts on this subject bloody frustrating!

First, has no-one on this site ever watched Collingwood--or ever spoken to a magpies fan? If yes to either, you would know that Dawes CANNOT play CHF.That's why I opposed his recruitment. As the Pies discovered last year he's a FF or nothing. And I wonder how he fits in if Clark is available.

Next issue--everyone is picking Frawley at FB. Why--because they like young Tom at CHB. False reasoning! Remember that Frawley was all-Australian at CHB. He offers speed down the spine, and his raking low kicks give forwards a real chance. Of course Mc Donald must play though he's a poor kick, but not at CHB. Try Gillies or Sellar at FB, but please don't deny us a real attacking option.

Next, can't anyone remember Tapscott's first 6 games? At back pocket, or HBF, but either way he was excellent. Running straight ahead and kicking it a mile. He's a great kicker-in after behinds are scored.

And now, a suggestion. I wonder if we've got the best out of Joel MacDonald? I despair of him on the backline--too many errors. But he does get the ball! That's never been his problem. He's strong, willing, quick. Others have commented how ordinary our midfield options are--why not give him a run there<? Apart from anything else he'd be a better match for the tall mids--Goddard, Embley etc

On the forward line he offers little. I doubt he's going to average a goal per game

Frawley was AA at FB (named BP but played FB all year). He's been a FB essentially his whole career at Melbourne.

I like some of your logic however don't forget that Magner is a rookie and cannot play unless he is upgraded to replace somebody on the long-term injury list. This might of happened today but I suspect if it did the MFC would post it! Also I cannot see the rationale of leaving co-captain Trengove out of the team (not sure whether to place him or Grimes in the centre) however I suspect that you overlooked him?

Surely Watts fits the bill as a runner off half back? That's certainly the role he has been playing and he would be in the top 5 at the club in terms of pace (albeit it in a slow side)

Agree on Terlich. I'm hopeful of Strauss coming on, but Terlich looks ok.

What I'd give for a Pearce Hanley.

There is a week to elevate him.

Gawn is on the LTI and we are allowed to nominate a rookie straght away anyway.

He may not play but he certainly can play.

Kent has shown he offers too much to just be the sub. He's a starter for mine.

Pedo is easily the biggest disappointment. Should not be in the team for Round 1. North may have pulled a real swifty on us there.

North are laughing at us - he was one of 2 who they were happy to show the door(the other - Edwards - ended up at the toigs)- and we threw in Gysberts to boot ! An astounding decision all round.

I like your side, if Terlich would replace anyone in that side it's Nicholson. DN must improve his foot skills considerably to hold his spot.
