He was drafted at pick 36 from memory although was a speculative pick.

On played 3 games in VFL last year due to injury and I don't think he has had a full preseason yet.

Similar to Evans situation (needs injury free year)

Does he run well enough to play AFL? I have seen him play a few times in the VFL and he doesn't get near the ball often enough. He isn't all that quick either.

yeah but we need to have a look at him soon.. his injuries over the last year or 2 would have held back his engine... & he's got a big body to tote around.

If he's not banging down the door like Fitzy did for a few months, then he doesn't deserve a game in the firsts. It's that simple, both Magner & Crouch carve it up in the seconds but go missing at AFL level. The gap is huge, demand to be played through performances in the Twos

...and there's part of the problem. They are taking the midfield places where Taggert should be played, at the moment he is sitting at half forward with a very occasional run as a mid. If Couch and Magner are not in serious contention for a senior berth then Taggert should be played there but maybe this is a problem of not having a stand alone team in the VFL.

Tag's would obviously love to spend more time on the ball at Casey but like others have said he does not yet have any sort of tank to speak of. (He has done .5 of a preseason and is coming off debilitating back injuries.) He has been told that if he can string a few good ones together at Casey he will get an opportunity at senior level. Rory has been in the best players the last two weeks, albeit the first week at Development level. Hopefully he is not too far away.

Rory uses the footy very well. He wins his own ball. I personally don't think we will see him play for Melbourne this year, but I would expect to see a completely different creature next year after he takes what conditioning he has built up now into a full preseason.

Wer'e gifting Toumpas games. Apart from a reasonable performance against Geelong he has been nothing more than a little boy lost out there.

If Taggert played last week and had no possessions till half time he would have been dropped this week. They are playing favourites and I'm sure other players know this and get [censored] off accordingly.

I'd give Taggert 3 games in a row even if he is subbed-out at 3 qtr time. We have nothing to lose at this stage of the year.

I understand what you are saying but it didn't stop him racking up the possies when played there in the development side. I just hope he is seen as a long term player and is kept on the list so we can see the player you are talking about next year.

You think playing a player who is not ready can't make us worse? It can, and will. Toumpas struggling then Garland going off injured showed what happened when you are carrying a player for a whole match. It could have been the difference between winning and losing last week.

We know where he's at - developing at Casey like many of our other young guys should be.

A young player does not have to play AFL within the first two years to be deemed worthy of another contract.

Because if you don't watch Casey, you're none the wiser if he's progressing or just no good. It is a fair thing to ask.
