Watts is looking pretty ... umm.. lean

I think they'll keep him relatively lean as his role will, for the forseeable future, be the sweeping QB defender with perhaps even a bit of time on the ball. Makes sense i reckon as one his key strengths is his athleticism and running, might as well take full advantage of it.

Jack ( W) needs Nicks's ( R) physique.

Beat me to it Binman, I would think after trying to bulk him up to KPF standards over the last couple of years the focus will have shifted back to getting the most out of his aerobic capacity so that he can play the role you describe, 3rd up defender with stints on a wing.

Disagree. Jack Watts is Jack Watts. Think we need to get over the whole he's the next Riewoldt/Cloke/J.Brown/Whoever else thing that the media have tried to push on him since draft day.

I wandered down for a squiz, saw all of the running session.

They ran 4, 3 minute laps in 4 groups. About a 1 minute break in between the 1st and 2nd runs, then a bit longer break in the last 2.

Not a lot to report different from all of the other training reports. McDonald and Nicholson still lead every time in the top group. Nicho is very vocal, very supportive, switched on. Trengove is at the back of the top group most times, and a couple of times didn't look happy about it.

Howe had a lot of tape on his lower back, sat out the last run, possibly the 3rd and was getting the lower back massaged.

Blease trailed the last group, every time, by a fair distance. Every coach was encouraging him at every opportunity, same with Watts. Everyone got encouragement, but those two in particular frequently.

At the start of the last run in Blease's group the coaches wanted him to get out fast, and there was some niggling between him and Sellar, then Frawley got stuck into him a bit as they took off. Nothing in it other than to fire him up, it was just interesting.

Rodan, Byrnes and Gillies seemed to run what I think were repetitive 200's. The Geelong boys were sucking them in hard, Rodan looks like he could do it all day.

Jamar, Fitzy and Dawes were running laps at a reasonable pace when it all started, Dawes is huge and fit. Bandage on the right knee. He later ran laps on his own, not sure how many, but a couple at a good pace, he was jogging at walking speed by the end.

Fitzy and Jamar resumed laps towards the end, they were like a couple of race horses.

Mitch was kicking a footy around for a while, and was chatting to his new gorilla side kick for a bit, warmed my heart it did.

Davey wasn't there.

Jones and Tappy were over the other side, doing ball work I think, not sure if Viney was with them too, but I didn't see much of them.

We must not forget that Greg Denham called all our new recruits "Junk" last week.

May they all kick arze in 2013.

Been meaning to ask you for a while WYL what Circa is RDB'S photo on your avatar?

Jack Watts is Jack Watts ?? How insightful. He needs to be stronger and more aggressive even in the sweeper role that now seems his thing ( one think he's ideally suited for as it happens ). But hes still not there physically imho. Riewoldlt has the perfect physique for this kind of play.

we can disagree

Tapscott joined in training later and his kicking in somewhat blustery conditions was a delight, as was Watts'.

How old is Jack now......20 ...21......It does take time for some blokes to put on the weight without hampering the other attributes he may have.....I think all is going to plan with Jack and he will be a very good player for us.....

So you are going on a photograph...which has a strange perspective......have you been to training lately.....I have, if you do, go and stand next to him........he'll even chat to you and tell you he is working at getting steady with the weight that Misso and the rest want him at.......

Whats with the "mankinis"?

272724.jpg

gotta beat a wet 't' shirt competition, I guess?

I think I'll go to the beach, I'm starting to dream of C Willo, does the age have a page 3er? B)

A photo Satyricon. ?

No.. A number of photos and personal observation ....yes.

Your point other than a rubbishing diatribe ?

Did i say he doesn't train hard ? care to provide that ? Good luck as anyone with half an eye for observation will suggezt ive always been one of his greatezt fans.

Ive simply put it he needs s bit more beef.

Canter be that hard to comprehend surely.

i wonder if essendon are still waiting for dustin fletcher to bulk up??

A. His had 4 seasons already. He should already be a very good player for us.

B. His a #1 draft pick, he should be a super star for us. Like the Goddards, Riewoldts, NikNats and Murphys

Funny you mention him playing on the wing as i was going to say the same before settling on a run in the midfield. this might sound a bit silly but i could almost see him as hb/winger in the mold of Robbie Flower. It would be funny if whilst looking for a star KPF we ended up getting a new Robbie Flower.

4 pre seasons when his age was 17,18,19,20, With a person of a certain build, weight is not easy to put on......He is a good player for us and will get better....

Unfortunatly people like you want instant sucess....just because he was no.#1 pick you want him to be a superstar in his first season.....

Some of the boys got confused, got told it was a Cross Training Session

Which Goddard wasn't, and this seems to be the role Watts will be playing. Goddard was lamented by Saints supporters for at least 4 seasons before all of a sudden they all loved him and he was a superstar.... Hopefully we see this happen for Jack

Not his first season, but his 5th season yes.

The reasoning is almost as poor as the spelling and grammar in this post.

The reasoning is almost as poor as the spelling and grammar in this post.

Firstly they aren't reasons, they are statements.

Secondly who gives a fu$k about spelling and grammar on a public forum. I sure don't. If that upsets you maybe you should refrain from reading them.

It's actually the Alex Perry look, it's just that he's not allowed to wear his sunglasses on his head while he trains.

Alex Perry rates up there with Caroline Wilson in my "not much liked" list

Firstly, you obviously have no idea what reasoning means.

Secondly, that is clearly apparent.

A near full strength Demons were outplayed all night against a Blues outfit that was under the pump and missing at least 9 or 10 of the best players. Time for some hard decisions to be made across the board.

  • PREVIEW: Carlton

Good evening, Demon fans and welcome back to the Demonland Podcast ... it’s time to discuss this week’s game against the Blues. Will the Demons celebrate Clayton Oliver’s 200th game with a victory? We have a number of callers waiting on line … Leopold Bloom: Carlton and Melbourne are both out of finals contention with six wins and eleven losses, and are undoubtedly the two most underwhelming and disappointing teams of 2025. Both had high expectations at the start of participating and advancing deep into the finals, but instead, they have consistently underperformed and disappointed themselves and their supporters throughout the year. However, I am inclined to give the Demons the benefit of the doubt, as they have made some progress in addressing their issues after a disastrous start. In contrast, the Blues are struggling across the board and do not appear to be making any notable improvements. They are regressing, and a significant loss is looming on Saturday night. Max Gawn in the ruck will be huge and the Demon midfield have a point to prove after lowering their colours in so many close calls.
